Publishing OLAP server metadata

Use the Publish OLAP Server Metadata notebook to publish metadata for DB2 OLAP Server or Essbase server objects to the information catalog.

To publish OLAP Server metadata:

  1. Open the Publish OLAP Server Metadata notebook.

  2. Specify the objects whose metadata you want to publish to the information catalog:

  3. In the Object name field, type the name of the Essbase object.

  4. Click Add. The object is added to the Object list. Repeat this process for all the objects that you want to publish.

  5. Click the Synchronization Settings tab.

  6. In the Supervisor user ID field, type the user ID of the supervisor for the DB2 OLAP Server or the Essbase server.

  7.  In the Supervisor password field, type the password for the supervisor user ID.

  8. Type the password again in the Verify password field.

  9. In the Catalog name field, type the name of the information catalog to which you want to publish metadata.

  10.  In the Administrator user ID field, type a user ID that has access to the information catalog. The user ID can be the ID of the information catalog administrator or that of an information catalog user who has certain administrative privileges.

  11. Type the password that corresponds to the user ID in the Administrator password field.

  12. Type the password again in the Verify password field.

  13. Optional: Select one of the following check boxes to determine how published metadata will be updated:

  14. Optional: You can make the tree structure shown in the Information Catalog Manager less complex by limiting the number of levels of objects published and displayed in the Tree view:

    1.  Select Limit the levels of objects in the tree to limit the number of levels of objects that are published and displayed in the Tree view. If you do not select this check box, all objects and underlying objects you select are published and displayed.

    2. Click the up or down arrow to specify a limit for the number of levels of objects published and displayed in the Tree view. The default limit value is 1. The lower the limit you specify the less complex the tree structure will be.

  15. Optional: You can make the tree structure shown in the Information Catalog Manager less complex for each level published by limiting the number of dimensions and members for each level:

    1. Select Limit the number of dimensions and members for each level to limit the number of dimensions and members within each dimension that are published and displayed in the Tree view. If you do not select this check box, for each level of the Tree view, all objects that represent dimensions and all objects that represent members within those dimensions in the Essbase outline are published and displayed.

    2. Click the up or down arrow to specify a limit for the number of dimensions and members within each dimension that are published and displayed in the Tree view of the Information Catalog Manager. The default limit value is 1. The lower the limit that you specify, the less complex the tree structure will be.

  16. Click OK.

When you click OK, the Publish Information window opens and displays a message that tells you if the publish process completed successfully. If errors occurred, the notebook remains open when you close the Publication Information window so you can try to the publish process again. You can find more information about a particular error message in the DB2 UDB Messages Reference.

If the publication is successful, the notebook closes when you close the Publication Information window and a publication object is added to the List of publications in the Publish Metadata window.
