Use the Publish Data Warehouse Center Metadata window to publish metadata for Data Warehouse Center objects to an information catalog.
When you publish a process, the following objects are published with it:
All steps contained within a process. You cannot publish individual steps.
Any user-defined programs associated with steps in the process.
Schedule information for processes and steps.
Any warehouse source or warehouse target definitions used by the process and underlying steps.
Any other processes and steps whose output is used by the process being published.
If you publish a warehouse source or warehouse target, all table definitions in a selected warehouse source or warehouse are published.
If you publish a warehouse schema, all table definitions within that schema are published.
To publish Data Warehouse Center metadata:
In the Available objects list, select the objects that you want to publish, and click >
The object is displayed in the Selected objects list. Repeat this step for all the objects that you want to publish.
If you want to publish all available objects, click >>. If a node on the tree does not contain objects within it, it is not moved.
Click the Synchronization Settings tab.
In the Catalog name field, type the name of the information catalog to which you want to publish metadata.
In the Administrator user ID field, type a user ID that has access to the information catalog. The user ID can be the ID of the information catalog administrator or that of an information catalog user who has certain administrative privileges.
In the Administrator password field, type the password that corresponds to the user ID .
Type the password again in the Verify password field.
Select one of the options from the Map source tables to target warehouse list to specify how you want to map processes and their source tables when they are published to the information catalog.
Click At the table level to generate an information catalog transformation object between an information catalog source table and a target table. In the Information Catalog Manager, you will see the target table, the transformation object, and the source table, when you open the Tree view for a database object.
Click At the column level to generate an information catalog transformation object between an information catalog source table and a target column. You will see the target table, target column, the transformation object, and the source table and source column, when you open the Tree view for a database object.
You might map processes and their source tables at the column level to get a more detailed view of the data.
Optional: Select one of the following check boxes to determine how published metadata will be updated:
Select Generate object names and descriptions in the information catalog on update to replace existing object names and descriptions with the names and descriptions of the same objects in the Data Warehouse Center. Do not select this check box if you want to keep existing objects and descriptions in the information catalog. For example, if you specified additional business information for an object in the information catalog and do not want to overwrite the information with updated values, you would not check this box. This check box is not available if you select Delete existing objects in information catalog before updating.
Select Delete existing objects in information catalog before updating to delete existing objects before you publish updated objects from the Data Warehouse Center. Do not select this check box if you want to keep and update existing objects in the information catalog. If you select this check box, the Information Catalog Manager deletes all objects that are related to a deleted object, such as database and table objects. The Tree view is updated so that there are no objects unrelated to other objects.
Optional: You can make the tree structure shown in the Information Catalog Manager less complex by limiting the number of levels of objects published and displayed in the Tree view:
Select Limit the levels of objects in the tree to limit the number of levels of objects that are published and displayed in the Tree view. If you do not select this check box, all objects and underlying objects that you select are published and displayed.
Click the up or down arrow to specify a limit for the number of levels of objects published and displayed in the tree view. The default limit value is 1. The lower the limit you specify the less complex the tree structure will be.
If you set a limit, the number of levels of objects published and displayed in the tree view is limited to the number of levels you specify. The default limit value is 1.
For example if you specify a limit value of 1 and publish a process, only 1 step from the process will be published and displayed in the Tree view.
Click OK.
The Publish Information window opens and displays a message that tells you if the publish process completed successfully. The Publication Information window displays the contents of a log file that lists which metadata objects were published successfully. If errors occurred, the notebook remains open when you close the Publication Information window so you can try to publish objects again. You can find more information about a particular error message in the DB2 UDB Message Reference book.
If the publication is successful, the notebook closes when you close the Publication Information window and two publication objects are added to the List of publications. in the Publish Metadata window.
