Electronic Software Download Readme

This document shows the available electronic software distribution (eSD) parts available for installing IBM^(R) Express Runtime and the IBM Installation Agent.

If you want to view this document in another language, select the appropriate language from the following:

The complete Express Runtime product consists of 24 parts, however a typical installation requires only a subset of these parts. You can minimize your download time by selecting only the parts you need, as described in the installation parts tables.

If you want to order a media pack instead of downloading the parts you need, choose from the following options:

• Passport Advantage customers

  Customers with active maintenance or subscription are entitled to receive the Express Runtime ER 2.1.1 media pack. You can receive media delivery of new releases or versions of enrolled software licenses. You can access this feature through the password-protected Passport Advantage Online at the following Web site:

  http://www.ibm.com/software/passportadvantage

  At this Web site, follow these steps:

  1. Select "Customer sign in" from the right-hand navigator
  2. Enter your IBM user ID and password.
     Note:
     If you need help with your user ID and password, contact the eCustomer Care team.
  3. On the resulting Web page, choose "Software download" and "Media access" from the left navigational menu.

• Partners using Software Access Option

  You can order media packs for a fee through the eOrder CD Media catalog from the PartnerWorld Software Access Option site at the following Web site:

  http://www.developer.ibm.com/isv/welcome/softmall.html

• Partners under OEM contract

  Partners who sign an OEM Agreement will be sent a media pack. Contact your OEM sales representative to obtain the price for additional media packs before submitting a purchase order for them.

Determining which parts you need

Use the IBM Express Runtime installation parts table and the IBM Installation Agent installation parts table to determine which parts you need to download. The file name column shows the file name for each part. The platform listed in the Contents column indicates on which platform you will use that part of the product. The Usage column in the table describes for which installations the part is required.

Example: Download the Windows development environment

If you want to install IBM Express Runtime to develop solutions on a Microsoft^(R) Windows^(R) platform, download the required Express Runtime installation part (part 1 for Windows: C87BSML.zip) and the IBM Rational^(R) Web Developer for Windows files (parts 2, 3, and 4 for Windows: C87BTML.zip, C87BUML.zip, and C87BVML.zip).

Example: Download the Linux development environment

If you want to install IBM Express Runtime to develop solutions on a Linux platform, download the required Express Runtime installation part (part 1 for Linux: C87W5ML.tar.gz) and the IBM Rational Web Developer for Linux files (parts 5, 6, and 7 for Linux: C87W9ML.tar.gz, C87WAML.tar.gz, and C87WBML.tar.gz).

Example: Download the deployment packages

After downloading the parts you need to develop solutions, download the parts required for deploying middleware or creating solutions for the computers you want to target.

• For Windows target computers, download parts 8, 9, 10, and 11.
• For Linux target computers, download parts 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16
• For Linux on POWER target computers, download parts 17, 18, 19, and 20
• For i5/OS or OS/400 target computers, download parts 21 and 22

Example: Download the IBM Installation Agent

To receive a solution, download the IBM Installation Agent to unpack the files and then install them onto the target computer.

• For Windows, Linux, Linux on POWER, and AIX target computers, download part 23.
• For i5/OS or OS/400 target computers, download part 24.
  Note:
  You can remotely install IBM Installation Agent on an i5/OS or OS/400 computer from a Windows or Linux computer. To do so, download part 23 to install the IBM Installation Agent on the Windows or Linux computer and then install the IBM Installation Agent on the i5/OS computer as described in Installing the IBM Installation Agent on i5/OS or OS/400^(R) from Linux platforms.

IBM Express Runtime installation parts

The following table shows all available parts for installing IBM Express Runtime. Part 1 is required, but depending on your installation, you might need to download only a subset of the other parts. The files in each part are packaged for native access on each platform as eAssemblies for Windows or Linux, so choose the parts that you need and then use the file for the platform on which you are installing. The Usage column in the table describes when the part is required.

IBM Installation Agent installation parts

The following table identifies the available parts for installing the IBM Installation Agent. Depending on your installation, you might need to download only one of these parts. The files in each part are packaged for native access on each platform as eAssemblies for Windows, AIX, Linux, Linux on IBM POWER^(TM), i5/OS or OS/400, so choose the parts that you need and then use the file for the platform on which you are installing. The Usage column in the table describes when the part is required.

Using eSD parts for installations on Windows platforms

After downloading the eSD part files for Windows platforms, follow these steps:

1. Unzip the .zip files using a zip compression utility (PKZIP, WinZip, or InfoZip) to a temporary directory, for example C:\Downloads\ERV2-1-1.
   Note:
   Do not unzip the files into a directory name that contains spaces.

2. Once extracted, run one of the following launch pad executable files to start the launch pad for that product.
   • For the Express Runtime installation, part 1, run launchpad.exe.
   • For the IBM Installation Agent installation, part 23, run launchpad.exe.
   • For the IBM Installation Agent on i5/OS installation, part 23, run launchpad.exe.

3. When the launch pad is displayed, click the Install link.

4. Refer to the product information for further installation instructions.

Using eSD parts for installations on Linux and Linux on POWER platforms

After downloading the eSD part files for Linux platforms, follow these steps:

1. Decompress the compressed .gz files using gunzip to a temporary directory using the following command:

   gunzip archivefilename.tar.gz

   where archivefilename is the name of the eSD part file
2. Once extracted, expand the .tar archive using the following command:

   tar -xvf archivefilename.tar

   where archivefilename is the name of the eSD part file
3. Once extracted, run one of the following launch pad executable files to start the launch pad for that part.

   Linux

   • For the Express Runtime installation, part 1, run launchpad.sh.
   • For the IBM Installation Agent installation, part 23, run launchpad.sh.
   • For the IBM Installation Agent on i5/OS installation, part 23, run launchpad.sh.

   Linux on POWER

   • For the Express Runtime installation, part 1, run launchpad.sh.
   • For the IBM Installation Agent installation, part 23, run launchpad.sh.
4. When the launch pad is displayed, click the Install link.
5. Refer to the product information for further installation instructions.

Using eSD parts for installations on i5/OS or 0S/400 platforms

You can use eSD parts for installations on i5/OS or OS/400 platforms remotely (from Windows or Linux) or locally (on the i5/OS or OS/400 computer).

Installing the IBM Installation Agent on i5/OS or OS/400 from Windows platforms

To install the IBM Installation Agent to an i5/OS or OS/400 computer using the graphical interface, follow these steps:

1. Download and extract the Windows file from part 23, as instructed for Windows platforms.
2. Once extracted, run the launchpad.exe file from the i5OS folder to start the IBM Installation Agent launch pad.
3. Once the IBM Installation Agent launch pad is displayed, click Install IBM Installation Agent.
4. Refer to the IBM Installation Agent information for further installation instructions.

Installing the IBM Installation Agent on i5/OS or OS/400 from Linux platforms

To install the IBM Installation Agent to an i5/OS or OS/400 computer using the graphical interface, follow these steps:

1. Download and extract the Linux file from part 23, as instructed for Linux platforms.
2. Once extracted, run the launchpad.sh script from the i5OS0 folder to start the IBM Installation Agent launch pad.
3. Once the IBM Installation Agent launch pad is displayed, click Install IBM Installation Agent.
4. Refer to the IBM Installation Agent information for further installation instructions.

Installing the IBM Installation Agent on i5/OS or OS/400

To install the IBM Installation Agent from the i5/OS or OS/400 computer, download the C87Q9ML.sav file from part 24, then follow these steps:

1. From an i5/OS or OS/400 command line, create a temporary save file with the command: CRTSAVF qgpl/iiainstall
2. Transfer the .sav file you downloaded to the i5/OS or OS/400 computer using the following commands:
   1. cd directory where directory is the directory on the computer that contains the C87Q9ML.sav file
   2. ftp name where name is your i5/OS or OS/400 computer name or IP address
   3. User: Enter your i5/OS or OS/400 user profile name.
   4. Password:

      Enter your i5/OS or OS/400 password.

   5. ftp>binary
   6. ftp>put C87Q9ML.sav qgpl/iiainstall (replace
   7. ftp>quit
3. To restore the save file, which extracts the install file on your i5/OS or OS/400 computer, enter the following commands on an i5/OS or OS/400 command line:

   MKDIR DIR('/QIBM/userData/IIA')

   MKDIR DIR('/QIBM/userData/IIA/Install')

   RST DEV('/qsys.lib/qgpl.lib/iiainstall.file') OBJ(('/QIBM/UserData/IIA/Install/*'))

4. To start the installation, run the following commands in a Qshell session:

   cd /QIBM/UserData/IIA/Install

   IRU_i5OSiia_install-agent

5. To set up the password that is used to communicate between the Express Runtime deployment wizard and the IBM Installation Agent, follow the instructions in the post-installation section of the IBM Installation Agent information.
6. Refer to the IBM Installation Agent information for further installation instructions.
