IBM Rational Developer for System z Version 7.6 release notes

The following release notes provide information about new features and enhancements included in Rational® Developer for System z® Version 7.6 and lists the known limitations in the release.

This information is for developers using Rational Developer for System z Version 7.6.

Version 7.6.0.1 Updates

z/OS Integrated Development Environment

Rational Developer for System z 7.6.0.1 integrates with Rational Team Concert for System z 2.0.0.2. Customers who have installed Rational Developer for System z 7.6.0.1 and want to integrate with Rational Team Concert for System z need to install Rational Team Concert for System z 2.0.0.2.
You can save a remote z/OS search query that contains a file content search string.

The JES Purge and Cancel operations require the user to manually refresh the Remote Systems view or Remote System Details view to remove the purged or canceled jobs from these views. Messages for the Cancel, Hold, Purge, and Release menu items have been changed as follows:

JES job and step output are opened using the System z LPEX Editor. When you double-click a job or step output file (.spool file) in the Remote Systems view or Remote System Details view, the file opens in the System z LPEX editor.
Local syntax check now works with linked resources When your copy files or include files reside in a linked folder, such as on a LAN drive, you do not need to make a separate copy of these files in your workspace. When you specify your SYSLIB concatenation in the property group for a compilation, you can use paths relative to the workspace.
z/OS UNIX subprojects have an import/export mechanism that is different from the import/export mechanism for z/OS projects. z/OS UNIX subprojects will not be included in an exported z/OS project and must be imported and exported separately using the context menu item for z/OS UNIX subprojects.
The following help topics have been updated for this release. The topics are included in this readme for your information. Because they are included here outside of the context of the information center, the links in the topics will not work.
- Remote z/OS search does not support regular expression searches.
- The ISPF BOUNDS command does not affect commands entered in the prefix area.

Enterprise Service Tools

The following updates should be made to the online help for the Enterprise Service Tools component:

For single-service project tools:
- In the two topics titled "XML Converters tab", in the description of the XMLPARSE option, in the sentence "This option is valid only if Compiler Level is set to 4.1", add "or higher" to the end of the sentence.
- In the topic "XML Transformation for CICS project", in the last bullet, Scenario: Create New XML Transformation (bottom-up) XML Transformation for CICS only, replace "bottom-up" with "top-down".
For service flow project tools:
- In the topic "Screen Operation":
  1. Delete the second and third paragraphs.
  2. Add the following sentence as the new second paragraph:
    This information can be accumulated during screen operations recording or flow recording or can be created manually using the screen operations editor.
- In the topic "Step 5.4, Run the Generate Runtime Code wizard for each of the two generation properties files":
  1. a) Add the following note after Figure 1:
    Note: The warning message CRRZE7329W indicates that a particular type of descriptor is not supported in the current runtime. This warning can usually be ignored, but since the Generate Runtime Code wizard skips this descriptor without processing it, it is best to make sure that the affected screen can be identified using only the other descriptors defined for that screen.
  2. Add the following note after both Figure 1 and Figure 2:
    Note: If an error message indicates that the CICS Resource Definition (CRD) server encountered a problem then follow the instructions in the User response section of topic "CRRZE7206E " in the online help for the Application Deployment Manager.
    Also add the following text to topic "CRRZE7206E" in the online help for the Application Deployment Manager:
    User response: If the trailing error message (represented by the words "{error message}" at the end of this message) indicates that the error occurred in the CICS Resource Definition (CRD) server then follow these steps:
    Find the CICS Resource Definition server reason code and the CICS RESP2 code corresponding to the error. These codes begin with the letters CRRZA (new style) or WZAD (old style).
    Typically the reason code and the CICS RESP2 code are included in the "{error message}" section of this message.
    
    If not, then examine the CICS MSGUSR log for error details and determine the reason code and the CICS RESP2 code.
    
    See the online help for the CICS Resource Definition server reason code and the CICS RESP2 code for steps to resolve the error.
- In the topic "Troubleshooting information for service flow projects", after the subtopic "Terminal applications -- troubleshooting", add the following short subtopic:
  Using the Generate Runtime Code wizard -- troubleshooting: See the following topics:
  - "Step B9. Check the results from running the Generate Runtime Code wizard"
  - "Step 5.6: Troubleshooting" in the first tutorial.
- In the topic "Overview of the logic of the service flow", in the next-to-last bullet, change "loopEnd_strLoopVar" to "loopEnd_variable0".
- In the topic "C. Record the flow information", in Step 5.a.ii, in the second bullet, in the sentence beginning "So far the only such variable is available0", change "available0" to "variable0".
- In the topic "Step 3.4: Add logic to CheckItemAvailability.seqflow", in the subtopic "Add an alternate path for remaining screens", add the following sentence as the second paragraph:
  The current version of the flow works correctly when the While loop does not find the requested item number, but it works incorrectly when the While loop does find the requested item number.
- In the topic "Creating and starting a connection to a CICS Resource Definition server", in the subtopic "Creating a connection to a CICS Resource Definition server", in Step 2, in the sentence "Select CICS Resource Definition server", change "CICS Resource Definition server" to "CICS Resource Definition server via Web Services".

SCLM Developer Toolkit

An auto refresh project feature has been added so that filters can be updated automatically. This feature can be enabled through SCLM preferences. Valid polling intervals are between 1 and 180 minutes.
Content assist and the ability to open copybooks are now both available when editing SCLM members through the SCLM Developer Toolkit.

org.xml.sax.SAXParseException errors in local helps

This fixpack includes fixes to a few XML format errors present in the help text of the product infocenter help. These errors were causing an org.xml.sax.SAXParseException error message to be displayed instead of the expected help text. The following is an example of such an error message (but omitting much of the lengthy location-specific message text):

org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The value of attribute "content" associated with an element type "meta" must not contain the '<' character.

If you are using Web-based help then you will get the fix automatically. If you have downloaded local help then you should download the help again to get the fixes. Web-based help

Rational Developer for System z v7.6 uses Web delivery to provide help content. There are three methods for accessing the help.

Remote Access – accessing the help content on the Web,
Intranet Access – accessing the help content from a server on your intranet, or
Local Access – accessing the help content locally after you download the content and install it on your workstation.

When you upgrade from Rational Developer for System z v7.5 to Rational Developer for System z v7.6, the installation program automatically sets your help access preferences to Access the helps remotely and automatically sets up the help system to point to the correct Rational Developer for System z v7.6 remote help site. If you do not have internet access or you prefer accessing the help content using another access method, then you need to change your access method.

File Manager Integration

File Manager Integration has renamed some of the views found within the Formatted Data Editor
Limitation: File Manager Integration requires File Manager Server Version 10.1
Limitation: Certain complex criteria created in the Build Criteria editor are not supported
Limitation: Data is lost when saving a dataset and the RSE connection is lost
Limitation: Creating templates with COBOL copybooks containing a COPY command with a REPLACING clause
Limitation: When the network connection to the host is lost abnormally during an edit session, the data set can be locked and cannot be opened again. Contact your system administrator to release the data set.

Advanced COBOL Editor

Enhanced content assist to include data items declared in EXEC SQL INCLUDE statements (for example, SQLCA) and implicitly linked CICS data structures (for example, DFHEIBLK).
Improved support for the COBOL LPEX Editor IMS™ snippets have been introduced to aid in the development of COBOL IMS applications.
Enabled open declarations, hover help, and other features for data items referenced in EXEC SQL and EXEC CICS statements.
Added support for real-time syntax checking of CICS and SQL code embedded in COBOL programs
Enhanced the navigation in the COBOL LPEX Editor to use the F3 key and hyperlinking
Enhanced content assist to include information about variable declarations
Limitation: The grammar used for parsing embedded SQL in COBOL programs is not a complete DB2® for z/OS grammar and can show incorrect warning annotations. Parsing embedded SQL using this limited grammar is optional and can be enabled on the preferences page LPEX Editor>System z LPEX Editor>COBOL Parser>COBOL Annotations and Tools.
Limitation: Refactor operations are not atomic and cannot be undone.
Limitation: The Open Perform Hierarchy operation will not be in sync if the source file is modified or closed.

Application Deployment Manager

Added functions to create an empty Application Deployment Manager manifest in Eclipse projects and z/OS projects.
Enhanced Application Deployment Manager to handle a subset of new functions supported by CICS Explorer.
Created a connection type for REST to let you use of both REST and SOAP protocols CICS Resource Definition server connections.
Limitation: Filtering resources within CICS Explorer views when connected to a CICS Resource Definition server is limited to the name of the resource.
Limitation: Connections to a CICS Resource Definition server using the Web services connection type do not support new CICS resource types
Limitation: Only regions that host a CICS Resource Definition server are listed in dialogs that generate code or CICS resources
Limitation: Changing the password of an existing connection to a CICS Resource Definition (CRD) server

Software Configuration Library Manager (SCLM) Developer Toolkit

Limitation: 'SCLM Search' and 'SCLM member security' are not supported for z/OS 1.8

Host Integration

A version of Perl must be installed to start the IBM Rational Developer for System z Remote Systems Explorer (RSE) server.
