Introduction to Manage Mobile Pages

Manage Mobile Pages consists of three portlets that let you define navigation and properties for your mobile environment.

The portlets are:

Manage Mobile Pages portlet

Mobile Portal Accelerator gives a hand-held device the ability to navigate and view a Portal website using a navigation hierarchy suitable for mobile devices. The Manage Mobile Pages portlet is used by portlet administrators to create this mobile portal navigation. The navigation tree consists of nodes which are pages, URLs, or Labels. At run time, the XDIME aggregator displays the navigation created by this portlet.

The Manage Mobile Pages portlet also gives you access to the Extended Properties and Preload Notices portlets.

For more information, see the topic Manage Mobile Pages portlet in this information center.

Extended Properties portlet

The Extended Properties portlet configures the extended properties describing characteristics the mobile device must have in order to display a node. This portlet enables fine-tuning of content based on device type and capabilities. For example, it can filter image and audio content when a device does not support those features. Or it can filter content based on the device type or manufacturer.

The Extended Properties portlet can also be used to configure properties specifying how to display a navigation node. For example, you can configure an extended property specifying whether an image or short title is displayed on the mobile device for a node.

At run time, the XDIME aggregator queries the extended properties for a node to determine whether the corresponding page, URL, or portlet is displayed in the output.

You can create custom extended properties. However, custom properties might require changes to the XDIME aggregator.

For more information, see the topic Extended Properties portlet in this information center.

Preload Notices portlet

Information pages, called preload notices, can optionally be displayed after a link is selected and before it is displayed. This portlet can insert special promotional advertising, notify users of billable charges associated with the selection, or provide warnings regarding the content to be displayed. These preload notices and information pages are defined for the device using the Preload Notices portlet.

Using this portlet, you can:
  • Configure where preload notices appear in the navigation.
  • Select predefined rules that determine when a preload notice is displayed. Examples can include:
    • Displaying notices only on specific days of the week.
    • Displaying notices until a configured maximum number of times is exceeded.
  • Navigate from the preload notice to the target link.

For more information, see the topic Preload Notices portlet in this information center.
