Introduction to the Mobile Portal Toolkit

Use the Mobile Portal Toolkit to create portlets and Multi-Channel Server (MCS) policies for your portlets.

The Mobile Portal Toolkit runs on Microsoft Windows 7, Microsoft Windows XP Professional, or Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and requires either IBM® Rational® Application Developer or Rational Software Architect.

The online help included with the Mobile Portal Toolkit describes how to use the policy editors. In addition, when the toolkit is installed, sample portlets are added to the samples gallery for your Rational development environment.

The Mobile Portal Toolkit also installs the Mobile Portal Accelerator runtime component into the WebSphere® Portal Test Environment so that you can test your mobile portlets within the toolkit.

The following components of the Mobile Portal Toolkit are targeted for Mobile Portal Accelerator:

• Portlet creation wizards that include support for creating Mobile Standard and Mobile Struts portlets supporting the standard portlet API. Portlets that are created using these wizards will support XDIME, XDIME 2, and HTML.
• Rational-based policy editors, which are used to create policies that are referenced in the XDIME or XDIME 2 markup and are used by the MCS runtime component to make the best decision for emitting device-dependent markup to a target device.
• Sample portlets in the samples gallery.
• A test environment with which developers can deploy and test portlets.
