Installing

To install IBM® Mobile Portal Accelerator components, you will need to follow the instructions provided in this section.

In addition to information about installing the Mobile Portal Accelerator runtime components, this section provides information about other products that work with and are prerequisites for Mobile Portal Accelerator.

Prior to installing

Before using this information, review the readme additions file (readme_additions.html, located on the IBM Mobile Portal Accelerator Disc 1 of 2) and Mobile Portal Accelerator Technotes for any updates to this installation information. Technotes can be found at the Mobile Portal Accelerator support site.

Overview

Mobile Portal Accelerator includes several components:
  • Multi-Channel Server version 6.3.1
  • Media Access Proxy, an optional component of IBM Mobile Portal Accelerator
  • Mobile Portal Accelerator extensions
    • XML device-independent markup extensions (XDIME) aggregator
    • Manage Mobile Pages portlet, Extended Properties portlet, Preload Notice portlet
    • Preload notice support
    • XDIME sample portlets
    • Struts tag library and sample Struts portlets

Mobile Portal Accelerator works with prerequisite products that you install and configure to suit your specific business requirements. These prerequisite products include an operating platform, a database, an application server, and the WebSphere® Portal product. For information about planning and installing a database, refer to the documentation in this information center for your database type (DB2, Oracle, or Microsoft SQL Server). For DB2, the DB2 Database for your operating system's product documentation also contains detailed planning and installation information. The DB2 and WebSphere Portal information centers contain the latest information.

Note: Windows-based systems use backslashes (\) to delimit directories in a directory path. UNIX-based systems use forward slashes (/) as delimiters. This information uses forward slashes (/) to delimit directories in all paths that apply to all operating systems. Depending on the system that you are using, you might have to enter the directory path differently than shown.
