Configuring a WebSphere Application Server data source for MCS on DB2

After you install Multi-Channel Server (MCS) with a DB2® database, you can configure the data source.

A data source uses connection pooling which provides a framework for caching database connections. This enables reuse of physical connections and reduced overhead for applications. Connection pooling minimizes expensive operations in the creation and closing of sessions.

Before configuring the MCS to use a data source, follow the instructions that are provided with the DB2 documentation to install DB2 and any required fix packs.

Note: Because IBM® Mobile Portal Accelerator does not use the OLAP Starter Kit, you do not need to install the OLAP Starter Kit. An existing DB2 installation with the OLAP Starter Kit does not affect the operation of Mobile Portal Accelerator.

To configure the data source, perform the following procedures.
