Creating a monitor

Use the Create Monitor notebook to create a monitor.

To create a new monitor:

  1. Open the Create Monitor notebook.

  2. Enter the unique name for your new monitor in the Monitor name field. The name can be up to 255 characters in length.

  3. Enter a description of your new monitor in the Description field. The description can be up to 255 characters in length.

  4. If you want your new monitor to be the default monitor for a particular level (database, instance, table, tablespace, or connections), select that level from the Default for level drop-down box. If you do not want your new monitor to be the default for any level, ensure that -no change- appears in the Default for level field.

  5. Add performance variables to your monitor using the What page of the Create Monitor notebook. For information on performance variables, consult the list of performance variables.

  6. Set the thresholds for your monitor using the Thresholds page of the Create Monitor notebook.

  7. If desired, you can change the color that represents a performance variable on the Details Graph using the Graph Settings page of the Create Monitor notebook.

  8. Click OK. The Create Monitor notebook closes.

  9. Use the Start Monitor window to start your newly created monitor.
