1.0 Overview

This document describes how to install a downloaded version of IBM® Rational® Performance Tester Refresh Pack 6.1.1. This document also links to instructions that describe how to create a local mirror of your product update server.

2.0 Installation prerequisites

To download, extract, and install the refresh pack from a ZIP file, you will require approximately 1.3 GB of disk space.

Before you can install this refresh pack, you must install IBM Rational Performance Tester 6.1. If you change the default update site preferences by clicking Preferences > Update Sites, you must restore the default settings before you can install the refresh pack.

Also, if you disabled any product features by modifying the feature.xml files or through the Update Manager by clicking Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration, you must enable them before you install this refresh pack.

3.0 Installing the refresh pack

Install the refresh pack with the same user account that installed the product.

Restrictions:

To install the refresh pack, complete the following steps:

  1. Start Rational Product Updater:

  2. Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts might not appear in the default location. In this case, you can start Rational Product Updater by running install_dir/updater/eclipse/rpu.exe on Windows, and running install_dir/updater/eclipse/rpu on Linux.

  3. Create temp_dir\rpt\policy.xml, where temp_dir is the location of the extracted refresh pack. Your policy.xml should contain URL maps to the site.xml for each update you wish to install (including Rational Product Updater), as in the following example:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
    <update-policy>
       <url-map pattern="com.ibm.rational.performance.tester.update"
    url="http://server1/rational_updates/rpt/61/update/site.xml/">

       <url-map pattern="com.ibm.rational.software.architect.discovery"
    url="http://server1/rational_updates/rsa/60/discovery/site.xml/">

       <url-map pattern="com.ibm.rational.wbi.rsa"
    url="http://server1/rational_updates/rsa/60/discovery/site.xml/">

       <url-map pattern="com.ibm.orca.product.updater"
    url="http://server1/rational_updates/rpu/60/update/site.xml"/>

    </update-policy>
  4. Click Preferences > Update Sites.
  5. Navigate to the policy.xml you created in step 2 (temp_dir\rpt\policy.xml, where temp_dir is the location of the extracted refresh pack).
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Find Updates.

  8. If your computer does not have Internet access, or cannot connect to the live IBM update server, a warning appears in Rational Product Updater that states that other update sites are not available. You can ignore this warning if you installed IBM Rational Product Updater 6.0.1.

    If your computer has Internet access and can connect to the live IBM update server, and if Rational Product Updater requires an update, you are prompted to install it before you can continue. Click OK. Rational Product Updater installs the update, restarts, and retrieves a list of available updates.

  9. Select IBM Rational Performance Tester 6.1.1.
  10. Click Install Updates.
  11. Review and accept the license agreement and continue the installation by clicking OK.

  12. Depending on the speed of your computer processor and the amount of RAM in your computer, the update might take an extended period of time to install.

    After the installation is complete, Rational Product Updater lists the installed updates on the Installed Products page.

  13. Close Rational Product Updater.

  14. Note: An active z/OS Rational Agent Controller process will not be updated. z/OS RAC must be restarted to ensure the updates are available.

4.0 Installing product updates from a command line

You can install product updates, such as interim fixes, fix packs, and refresh packs, from a command line so that you do not have to monitor or input information during the installation.

This product update uses new features of the Rational Product Updater tool. You must ensure that the Updater tool is at the latest release level before attempting to update this product from the command line.

For more information about installing product updates from a command line, see Running Rational Product Updater from a command line in the product updater help.

  1. Start Rational Product Updater:

  2. Note: On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 and SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 9.0, if you use a desktop environment other than the default, the product shortcuts might not appear in the default location.
