Configuration: Using Multiple VOBs

• Consider segregation by function:

  • “Static” files in a mostly-read-only VOB (e.g. compilation tools)
  • “active” files (your source code) in one or more project VOBs
  • relative symbolic links to weave multiple VOBs together into one logical tree

• Use cleartool relocate (VOB ‘splitter’) if you change your mind or your access patterns

  • divides VOB into pieces, retaining history
  • can graft together subtrees of VOBs
