What is new in IBM Mobile Portal Accelerator version 8.0

This release includes the following key new features:

• Support for IBM Web Content Manager attribute based personalization.
• Conversion of Web Content Manager rich text to XDIME format.
• Support for WebSphere Portal and Web Content Manager version 8.0.
• New operating system and database support

Support for Multi-Channel Server (MCS) version 6.3.1

Mobile Portal Accelerator version 8.0 runs together with MCS version 6.3.1.

Updated runtime and development code

The Mobile Portal Toolkit is based on Rational® Application Developer version 8.5 and Rational Software Architect version 8.5.

Developers can use the standard portlet API (encompassing JSR 168 and 286) to develop mobile portlets using the Mobile Portal Toolkit. The IBM portlet API is no longer recommended for use.

IBM Mobile Portal Accelerator Device Update version 8.0, a separately priced subscription service, provides device attribute information used by the Multi-Channel Server to interact effectively with mobile devices. Currently, more than 10,000 devices are defined and updated in the subscription database. New devices and updates are added as they reach the market.

With Mobile Portal Accelerator version 8.0, you can render Web Content Manager (WCM) version 8.0 content to mobile devices.

IBM Tivoli® License Manager (ITLM) and IBM Support Assistant (ISA) currency

IBM Mobile Portal Accelerator version 8.0 provides ITLM 3.0 with up-to-date product identification information.

The IBM Support Assistant utility provides up-to-date help information about IBM Mobile Portal Accelerator version 8.0.

Using Media Access Proxy (MAP) for image conversion

In this release, IBM Mobile Portal Accelerator now uses Media Access Proxy (MAP) 6.3.1, a web application, to convert images to different formats for different device types. This function was previously performed using the Image Conversion Service.
