The Mobile Calendar sample portlet demonstrates how to
use remote policies in a portlet. It also supports the use of local
policies.
Using Mobile Calendar
The Mobile Calendar
sample JSR 168 portlet can be used to test remote policies with the
sample remote policy servlet provided with IBM® Mobile Portal Accelerator.
However, the portlet uses local policies by default. For more information
about remote policies, see the topic Using remote policies.
The
Mobile Calendar portlet supports two modes:
- Edit mode
- Supported with HTML markup and used to specify whether the portlet
uses local or remote policies. For more information about configuring
the Mobile Calendar portlet, see the topic Configuring the sample
Mobile Calendar portlet to use local or remote policies.
- View mode
- Supported with XDIME markup and used to display the user's calendar
information. (There is a view mode HTML JSP, but it only displays
an informational message.) There are three views of a user's calendar:
- Month view
- Displays the days of the selected month. Click a day to display
the Day view.
- Day view
- Displays the calendar events for a given day. You can add or edit
events.
- Event view
- Displayed when an event is added or edited. Use this view to enter
details about an event or to delete the event.
All of the views display a message indicating whether
the portlet is using local or remote policies.
Setting up Mobile Calendar
- Client requirements
- The portlet's View mode supports mobile device browsers. Its Edit
mode must be used with a device that is mapped to the WebSphere® Portal HTML
markup definition.
- Server requirements
- If the portlet is configured to use remote policies, the sample
remote policy servlet provided with IBM Mobile Portal Accelerator must
be installed.
- Deployment and installation
- The portal administrator must use the WebSphere Portal administration
portlets to install the Mobile Calendar sample portlet and place it
on a page that supports HTML and XDIME markup.
The portlet is installed
with Mobile Portal Accelerator and
is found in the following location: wp_root/wp.mobile/wp.mobile.mwp/installableApps.
The
portlet is also available in the Mobile Portal Toolkit samples
gallery. You can use Mobile Portal Toolkit to
view the source code for the portlet and to run it in the WebSphere Portal test
environment with local policies. If you install the sample remote
policy servlet on an application server, you can also test the Mobile
Calendar portlet's remote policy support in the test
environment.
- Configuration parameters
- You can use the Mobile Calendar portlet's Edit mode to specify
whether the portlet uses remote or local policies.
