Installing DB2 Relational Connect

This section provides instructions for installing DB2 Relational Connect on Windows systems and on AIX systems.

Installing DB2 Relational Connect on Windows Systems

Before you install DB2 Relational Connect on your Windows system, make sure you have installed either DB2 Universal Database Enterprise Edition or DB2 Universal Database Enterprise - Extended Edition.

The following instructions explain how to install DB2 Relational Connect on your Windows NT or Windows 2000 system.

  1. Log on to the system with the user account that you created to perform the installation.
  2. Shut down any other programs so that the setup program can update files as required.
  3. Insert the DB2 Relational Connect CD into the drive. The auto-run feature automatically starts the setup program. The setup program will determine the system language and launch the setup program for that language. If you want to run the setup program in a different language, or the setup program failed to auto-start, refer to the following tip.

    To manually invoke the setup program, perform the following steps:

    1. Click Start and select the Run option.
    2. In the Open field, enter the following command:
      x:\setup /i language 
      
      where:
      • x: represents your CD-ROM drive.
      • language represents the country code for your language (for example, EN for English).
    3. Click OK.

    The installation launchpad opens.

    From the launchpad you can view the installation prerequisites and the release notes, you can take a Quick Tour to explore the features, capabilities, and benefits of DB2 Universal Database Version 7, or you can proceed directly to the installation.

  4. Select Install to begin the installation procedure.
  5. After you have initiated the installation from the launchpad, proceed by following the setup program's prompts.

    You can click Cancel at any time to end the installation.

Installing DB2 Relational Connect on AIX Systems

Before you install DB2 Relational Connect, make sure you have installed either DB2 Universal Database Enterprise Edition or DB2 Universal Database Enterprise - Extended Edition. If you intend to include DB2 family databases in your distributed requests, you must have selected the Distributed Join for DB2 data sources option during the installation of DB2 Universal Database Enterprise Edition or DB2 Universal Database Enterprise - Extended Edition and verified that the FEDERATED parameter is set to YES.

The following instructions explain how to install DB2 Relational Connect on your AIX system.

The db2setup utility is the recommended method for installing DB2 Relational Connect on AIX systems. This utility can perform all of the tasks required to install DB2 Relational Connect.

To install DB2 Relational Connect on your AIX using the db2setup utility:

  1. Log in as a user with root authority.
  2. Insert and mount your DB2 product CD-ROM. For information on how to mount a CD-ROM, refer to Quick Beginnings for UNIX.
  3. Change to the directory where the CD-ROM is mounted by entering the cd /cdrom command, where cdrom is the mount point of your product CD-ROM.
  4. Enter the ./db2setup command. After a few moments the Install DB2 Relational Connect V7 window opens.

    Selected options are denoted by an asterisk.

    When installation is complete DB2 Relational Connect will be installed in the/usr/lpp/db2_07_01 directory with your other DB2 products.
