Installing DB2 OLAP Starter Kit

DB2 OLAP Server components can be installed as part of DB2 Universal Database Version 7.1. The DB2 base components must be installed in order to install DB2 OLAP Starter Kit. The Starter Kit supports only three concurrent users. You can easily migrate to DB2 OLAP Server from the OLAP Starter Kit.

DB2 OLAP Starter Kit is not available for HP-UX

Components of DB2 OLAP Starter Kit

The DB2 OLAP Starter Kit does not include the Application Manager, ESSCMD command line interface, or calc scripts. The following components are included with the OLAP Starter Kit:

Installation Steps for DB2 OLAP Starter Kit

DB2 OLAP Starter Kit is installed as a component of DB2 Universal Database. To install DB2 OLAP Starter Kit, you must logon as a user who has root privileges. To install DB2 OLAP Starter Kit:

  1. On a server workstation, insert the DB2 Universal Database CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. From the root directory on the CD-ROM, type ./db2setup.
  2. Follow the prompts on the installation windows, and provide the information requested.
  3. After DB2 Universal Database is successfully installed, insert the Starter Kit CD-ROM. From the root directory of the CD-ROM, type ./db2setup
  4. Follow the prompts on the installation windows, and provide the information requested.
  5. Optional. You can use the tutorial learn how to work with DB2 OLAP Starter Kit.

    To use the tutorial, you must first load the OLAP sample using the First Steps window in the DB2 Universal Database:

    1. Launch the First Steps window by clicking Start --> DB2 for AIX, Solaris Operating Environment --> First Steps. You can also launch the First Steps window by entering db2fs.cmd on the command line.
    2. In the DB2 First Steps Launchpad, select Create Sample Databases.
    3. In the Create Sample Databases window, select OLAP Sample. Click OK.
    4. When the OLAP sample has been created, you can use the tutorial. You can also use OLAP Integration Server to create an application to work with the OLAP sample. See Using DB2 OLAP Integration Server to Load Data.
