Installing DB2 OLAP Starter Kit

DB2 OLAP Server components can be installed as part of DB2 Universal Database Version 7.1. The DB2 base components must be installed in order to install DB2 OLAP Starter Kit. The Starter Kit components that are available with DB2 Universal Database are the Starter Kit Desktop, the Starter Kit Server, and the Spreadsheet Add-in. The Starter Kit supports only three concurrent users. You can easily migrate to DB2 OLAP Server from the OLAP Starter Kit.

After you install DB2 OLAP Starter Kit you can use the First Steps window to create the OLAP sample and work with the tutorial.

Components of DB2 OLAP Starter Kit

The following components are included with the OLAP Starter Kit:

The DB2 OLAP Starter Kit does not include the Application Manager, ESSCMD command line interface, or calc scripts.

Installation Steps for OLAP Starter Kit on Windows

DB2 OLAP Starter Kit is installed as a component of DB2 Universal Database. To install DB2 OLAP Starter Kit:

  1. On a server, insert the DB2 Universal Database CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive to display the installation launchpad. If the launchpad does not appear, you can run setup.exe from the root directory.
  2. Follow the prompts on the installation windows, and provide the information requested.

    DB2 OLAP Starter Kit is automatically installed during a typical or custom install. It is not available in a compact install.

  3. After DB2 Universal Database is successfully installed, you will be prompted to insert the DB2 OLAP Starter Kit CD-ROM to complete the installation.
  4. When the installation is complete, restart your server.
  5. Optional. You can use the tutorial learn how to work with DB2 OLAP Starter Kit.

    To use the tutorial, you must first load the OLAP sample using the First Steps window in the DB2 Universal Database:

    1. Launch the First Steps window by clicking Start --> DB2 for Windows --> First Steps. You can also launch the First Steps window by entering db2fs.cmd on the command line.
    2. In the DB2 First Steps Launchpad, select Create Sample Databases.
    3. In the Create Sample Databases window, select OLAP sample. Click OK.
    4. When the OLAP sample has been created, you can use the tutorial. You can also use OLAP Integration Server to create an application to work with the OLAP sample. See Using DB2 OLAP Integration Server to Load Data.
