Specifying the location and file type to be loaded

Use the File page of the Load notebook to specify the location of and type of data file to be loaded into the table.

Fields and controls

To specify where the data to be loaded is located and what type of data it is:

1. Open the File page of the Load notebook.
2. Select one of the following:
   • Load data residing on the database server if the data that you want to load resides on the same server as the database containing the table.
   • Load data residing on the local filesystem if the data is on the same system as the Control Center.

     Notes:

     1. Load data residing on the local filesystem is not available if the Control Center is running as an applet.

     2. If you select Load data residing on the local filesystem, you cannot specify a tape device as the location of the data.
3. Specify the locations of the data in the Files, pipes, or devices containing the data list box. Click on the Add push button to open the Add window so you can add one or more locations to this list box.

   Note:

   If you select Load data residing on the local filesystem, you cannot use the ... button of the Add window to browse the file system. You must type the full file path.

   The new entry is added to the list following the entry that is currently selected. If no entry is selected, the new entry is appended to the list.

4. Optional: Modify the list of locations in the Files, pipes, or devices containing the data list box. You can change or rearrange their order by selecting a path and using the Change, Up, and Down push buttons. You can remove locations from the list by selecting the names and using the Remove push button.
5. Specify the type of file by selecting one of the following radio buttons:
   • Nondelimited ASCII format (ASCII)
   • Delimited ASCII format (DEL)
   • Integrated exchange format (IXF)
6. Optional: Specify options for loading a particular file type or for loading large objects (LOBs), by clicking on one of the following push buttons and using the window that opens:
   • ASC Options
   • DEL Options
   • IXF Options
7. If you have specified all required information for the load process, you can start the load process now by clicking on OK. Otherwise, to specify required or optional information, or to change default values, go to one of the other notebook pages.
