Fixing a satellite

A satellite failure can occur for a number of reasons. For example, the failure can occur because of a communications problem, or because a batch step returns a code that is not within the defined success code set for that batch step. If the failure is due to a batch step, the satellite is disabled, which prevents it from executing any batch steps after the batch step that failed.

If you are viewing the group details view or the application version details view, any failure that occurs on a satellite in the group is rolled up to this view.

To fix a satellite:

  1. Identify the failed satellite. To identify the satellite, open the satellite details view.

On the satellite details view, the value Satellite failed is in the State column.

  2. Select the failed satellite.
  3. View the details of the log entry for the satellite.
  4. When you have determined the problem, create a batch to fix the problem.

If the failure is caused by a common problem, you may already have a batch to fix the problem. In addition, you can also use any of the available notebooks and SmartGuides in the Control Center to generate a script and save it to the Script Center.

  5. Assign a fix batch to the satellite.

You can modify the fix batch until you are satisfied with the results that it produces on the satellite.

  6. After the satellite executes the fix batch, check the log entry for the satellite to ensure that the results of the fix batch are satisfactory.
  7. Promote the satellite back to executing group-level batches.
