Defining a warehouse user

Use the Define Warehouse User notebook to define a warehouse user to the Data Warehouse Center. A warehouse user must be defined to the Data Warehouse Center in order to access warehouse sources, warehouse targets, steps, and processes.

The Data Warehouse Center controls access with a standard log on window. When a warehouse user logs on, the user ID is compared to a warehouse user definition to determine whether the warehouse user is authorized to access the Data Warehouse Center. You can add a warehouse user to one or more warehouse groups from the Warehouse User notebook or the Warehouse Group notebook.

To define a warehouse user:

  1. Open the Define Warehouse User notebook.

  2. In the Name field, type the name of the warehouse user (for example, John Smith). The name can be up to 80 characters including spaces.

  3. Optional: If you want the warehouse user to be able to log on to the Data Warehouse Center, type a user ID in the User ID field. The user ID must be no longer than 60 characters and cannot contain spaces, dashes, or special characters (such as @, #, $, %, >, +, =).

Type a default password for the warehouse user in the Password field, and enter that password again into the Verify Password field. Passwords must be a minimum of six characters and can not contain spaces, dashes, or special characters.

  1. Optional: If you want the warehouse user to receive e-mail notification when a step completes, type the e-mail address of the warehouse user in the E-mail address field. The Data Warehouse Center will automatically notify the warehouse user of changes to the warehouse.

  2. Optional: To make a warehouse user inactive, clear the Active User check box. The warehouse user will no longer be able to log on to the Data Warehouse Center or receive e-mail notification.

  3. On the Warehouse Groups page, select warehouse groups from the Available warehouse groups list to which you want the warehouse user to belong and click >. The warehouse groups that you selected are moved to the Selected warehouse groups list.

If you want to include all of the items in the Available warehouse groups list, click >>. The Available warehouse groups list contains all of the warehouse groups defined in the Data Warehouse Center.

  1. Click OK to save your changes and close the notebook.
