Starting databases

Use the Start Databases window to make selected databases available for use. This starts the databases, but not necessarily all the objects they contain. Any table spaces or index spaces in a restricted mode remain in a restricted mode and are not started. Completing this window does not start the DB2 directory (DSNDB01), the DB2 catalog (DSNDB06), or the DB2 work file database (called DSNDB07). You need to start databases DSNDB06 and DSNDB07 explicitly by right-clicking on those individual databases and selecting Start from the pop-up menu. Starting the databases does not start table spaces or indexes that were explicitly stopped, unless you explicitly start those spaces from this window.

Authorities and privileges

To start the databases:

  1. Open the Start Databases window.

  2. Select one of the radio buttons from the Access option group. You can choose to start the database with access for Read and write allowed, read only , or access for Online utilities only.

  3. If you want all table spaces and index spaces in the database to be started also, select the Start all table and index spaces check box. Tip: To specify an individual table space or index space, use the Start table space window.

  4. Optional: If you decide against starting a particular database, clear the check box under the Start column next to the database name. You can also use the Check all or Uncheck all push buttons to set or clear all the check boxes for all selected databases. Only the databases with checks in the Start column will be started.

  5. Click OK to start the databases.
