Data Warehouse Center Administration Guide

Appendix C. How the Data Warehouse Center migrates Version 5.2 definitions

The Data Warehouse Center has a different object model from Visual Warehouse Version 5.2. Read this appendix to understand how the Data Warehouse Center will migrate your Version 5.2 definitions to the Data Warehouse Center.

Mapping between Visual Warehouse and Data Warehouse Center objects

Table 32 shows the mapping between the Visual Warehouse objects and the Data Warehouse Center objects.

In addition to these objects, the Data Warehouse Center adds a new process object, which contains a set of steps that accomplish a certain warehouse task. After migration, look at the processes that are created, and determine the other processes that you need to create. You can move steps between processes, and you can move processes between subject areas. Move the steps and processes to group the steps into smaller processes that make sense as a single task.

Subjects

Visual Warehouse Version 5.2 subjects will have a corresponding subject area created for it in the Data Warehouse Center. The subject area will have the same name as the Version 5.2 subject. Each subject area will contain one process. The process will be named subject area name - Process 1, where subject area name is the name of the subject area that contains the process.

Warehouses

Visual Warehouse Version 5.2 warehouses will have a corresponding subject area created for it in the Data Warehouse Center. The subject area will have the same name as the Version 5.2 warehouse. Each subject area will contain one process. The process will be named subject area name - Process 1, where subject area name is the name of the subject area that contains the process.

Business views

Each business view will have a corresponding step in the subject area and process that corresponds to the subject or warehouse that contained the business view. If a business view is included in both a subject and warehouse, then the step that corresponds to the business view will be included in the VW to DWC Migration Subject subject area and VW to DWC Process process. You must look through these steps and determine the appropriate subject area and process for the steps.

Each step will have a type and subtype associated with it. If the business view used a program or transformer, the step will have the type and subtype for the program or transformer. If the business view used SQL, the step will have a type of SQL.

Trigger programs and concurrent cascade relationships no longer exist. Trigger programs have been migrated to separate steps. Concurrent cascade relationships have been converted to schedules.

Visual Warehouse programs

Visual Warehouse programs have changed in the following ways in the Data Warehouse Center:

Security changes

The following Visual Warehouse security privileges no longer exist:

Only the Administration and Operations privileges remain in the Data Warehouse Center.

There is no longer an Update Security Group for a business view. The security groups that were associated with a Visual Warehouse warehouse or subject will also be associated with the processes that contain the migrated business views from the warehouse or subject.
