Customizing your Information Catalog Manager session

This section describes how you can customize your Information Catalog Manager sessions.

The following items are default settings for your Information Catalog Manager session:

• Hide system generated properties rather than displaying them in various Information Catalog Manager windows.
• Open all Information Catalog Manager windows in a description view with the exception of the Subjects window.
• Show the confirmation message box when you close the Information Catalog Manager.
• Use ? and * as wildcard characters when you search the information catalog.
• Search for objects that contain values you specify anywhere in the text of the value when you use the Define Search window.

Changing mouse or keyboard default actions

You can display and change the default actions that the Information Catalog Manager performs on objects. To alter the default actions that occur when you double-click on an object or when you select an object and press Enter:

1. Click Catalog --> Open as settings in the Catalog window.

   The Information Catalog Manager Settings notebook opens.

2. Click the Default actions notebook tab.
3. Click the down arrow next to the Select default action to display a list of actions that will be performed when you double-click an object or select it and press Enter.

   You can choose to open an object in a Tree or Description view, or you can choose to start a program when you double-click the object.

   If you have not changed the action, the default action is to open the object in a Description view. This action applies to objects in windows other than the Subjects window.

4. Select the Apply the default actions to the Subjects window check box to also apply the specified default action to the Subjects window.

   You might do this to keep the view consistent for each object window that you open. If you do not select this check box, objects in the Subjects window will always open in the default Tree View.

You can also use this notebook page to turn off the confirmation message that is displayed when you close the Information Catalog Manager.

Hiding Information Catalog Manager property values

You can specify whether you want to display (in certain windows) the object property values that the Information Catalog Manager generates. The default setting is to hide the following property values:

• Object type identifier
• Instance identifier
• Last changed date and time
• Last changed by

The values will be hidden in windows such as:

• Define Search
• Description View
• Add Program

To show the property values:

1. Click Catalog --> Open as settings in the Information Catalog window.

   The Information Catalog Manager Settings notebook opens.

2. Click the Properties tab.
3. Clear the Hide system generated properties check box.

Changing search wildcards

You can change the default wildcard characters and search options that the Information Catalog Manager uses when you search for an object.

To change wildcard characters:

1. Click Catalog --> Open as settings in the Information Catalog window.

   The Information Catalog Manager Settings notebook opens.

2. Click the Search tab.
3. Select the default wildcard settings that you want to use for your searches from the Specify wildcard characters list.
4. In the Specify default search option radio button group, click the appropriate radio button that specifies the search option to use when searching for objects.

In addition to the default wildcard characters, the Information Catalog Manager also treats _ (underscore) and % (percent) as wildcards, because DB2 databases use these characters as wildcards. To not treat _ and % as wildcards, click Matching exactly in the Define Search window. You can also specify this setting on the Search page of the Settings notebook.
