Information Catalog Manager User's Guide

Opening an information catalog

To open the information catalog:

  1. Click Start --> IBM DB2 --> Information Catalog.
  2. Double-click or select the icon that represents the information catalog that you want to open.

    The Open Information Catalog window opens.

  3. In the User ID field, type the user ID that is required by the operating system on which your information catalog resides.
  4. In the Password field, type the password for the user ID that you entered in the User ID field.

    Passwords are case sensitive for accessing databases on the following platforms:

Using the Information Catalog window

You can customize the Information Catalog window with a unique set of objects for your own use by saving searches and creating collections. You will learn more about this later. The following list shows the icons in the Information Catalog window.


New Search

Click to begin a search for objects by object type and property values.


Subjects

Subjects
Click to browse objects that are organized into related groupings or subjects. The objects are organized hierarchically for easy browsing.


Glossary entries

Glossary entries
Click for a quick reference to the standard business terms used by your work group.


Information Catalog news

Click to keep status information about your information catalog or your work group. Your information catalog administrator updates this object.


Online news services

Click to keep links to online sources for news, whether on your company's own systems or the Internet. Your information catalog administrator updates this object.


Online publications

Click to keep links to online documents, whether on your company's own systems or the Internet. Your information catalog administrator updates this object.
