Creating a new database with tailored settings

Use the Create Database SmartGuide to create a database with specific containers, custom performance parameters, and local language attributes.

To create a new database with tailored settings:

  1. Open the Create Database SmartGuide.

  2. On the Database Name page, type a name in the New database name field.

  3. For OS/2, Windows NT, Windows 95, and Windows 98, select an item from the Default drive list. For UNIX, you can override the Default directory that is displayed, or click on the Browse button and select the desired directory. The database files will be stored there.

  4. Optional: Type a description of the database you are creating in the Comment field.

  5. Optional: Type an alias for the new database in the Database alias field.

  6. For partitioned database environments only. Select a catalog node from theCatalog node list. The system catalog tables will be stored on this node.

  7. Optional: Use the User Tables page to specify the containers for the User Table Space.

  8. Optional: Use the Catalog Tables page to specify the containers for the System Catalog Table Space.

  9. Optional: Use the Temporary Tables page to specify the containers for the Temporary Table Space.

  10. Optional: Use the Performance page to specify parameters used by the optimizer to improve the performance of your database.

  11. Optional: Use the Region page to specify the territory, code set, and string comparison method for your database.

  12. Click on Done to create the database using the options you selected.
