This includes extended ACLS and NFS4 extended attributes. You can use the command line interface or the SMIT menus. Note: The file / directory backup type (mkdirback) has a new "-u" flag. Use this flag to indicate that SysBack should backup up Extended Attributes / NFS4 attributes, and extended ACLs. ======================================== Filestystems: ======================================== You can backup and restore the FS structure to tape, TSM server, CD/DVD or files on disk. This includes NFS4 extended attributes and filesystem quota options defined when the filesystem is created. You can use the command line interface or the SMIT menus. Note: The filesystem backup type (mkjfsback) has a new "-u" flag. Use this flag to indicate that SysBack should backup up Extended Attributes / NFS4 attributes, and extended ACLs. ======================================== Logical Volumes: ======================================== You can backup and restore the LV structure to tape, TSM server, CD/DVD or file on disk. This includes the new stripe width attribute. You can use the command line interface or the SMIT menus. ======================================== Volume Groups: ======================================== You can backup and restore the VG structure to tape, TSM server, CD/DVD, or files on disk. This includes scalable volume groups and dynamic LTG size. You can use the command line interface or the SMIT menus. Note: Scalable volume groups are NOT supported by AIX 5.3 for rootvg. Enabling Dynamic LTG Size means that the volume group can only be recreated or imported to other AIX 5.3 systems. Note: The volume group and Full System backup types (mkvgback & sysback) have a new "-u" flag. Use this flag to indicate that SysBack should backup up Extended Attributes / NFS4 attributes, and extended ACLs. ======================================== System Booting: ======================================== You can boot your system at AIX 5.3 via tape, SysBack's Classic Network Boot, SysBack's NIM Resource Network Boot and CD/DVD boot. ======================================== System Installation: ======================================== New menu options have been added at AIX 5.3 to support the new LVM features. Volume Groups The "Big VG" menu option now has a new entry "svg" (scaliable volume group) So the supported values for the Big VG option at AIX 5.3 are: "no", "yes" and "svg" Logical Volumes Stripe Width Filesystems Extended Attributes (ea) Quota ======================================== Restoring or Recreating LVM Entities in Normal Mode: ======================================== If you have used the "-u" flag on the backup command in order to capture NFS4/ extended attributes, but you do *not* want to restore these attributes, you must use the "-u" flag on the restore command. If you *do* want to restore these attributes, no special flag / task is requried as this is the default behavior. ======================================== CD / DVD Media: ======================================== Complete AIX 5.3 support exists for CD/DVD media and booting using SysBack. ======================================== NIM Resource Network Boot: ======================================== Complete AIX 5.3 support exist for NIM booting using SysBack. ======================================== Virtual I/O: ======================================== SysBack has not yet been tested in an environment using Virtual I/O and therefore there is no official support for this environment. However, we do not anticipate any problems in this environment since the hardware makes this environment transparent at the application level. Please operate in this environment carefully. In the unlikely event that problems occur, please report them to Support for evaluation as you would any other product issue. ======================================== User Name Length Change: ======================================== AIX 5.3 now supports user names with up to 255 characters. SysBack now supports user and group names up to 256 characters long as well. ======================================== Backwards Compatibility AIX Limitations: ======================================== 1) For ACL (AIXC) or NFS4: * NFS4 is only supported at AIX 5.3+ * Filesystem must be jfs2 * Filesystem must have the ea attribute set to version 2 (default version 1) In you are running AIX 5.3 and perform a SysBack backup with the new "-u" flag in order to capture NFS4 /extended attributes. *and* you have NFS4 file attributes set, the restore on an AIX 5.1/5.2 system will FAIL. x 0 . x 0 ./lost+found restore: 0511-119 There is a missing header block. restore: 0511-137 Trying to find the next header. Data may be lost. Starting again at file ./file3. x 0 ./file3 x 0 ./file4 x 0 ./file5 -------------------------------------- If you are running AIX 5.3 with NFS4 / extended attributes set and perform a SysBack backup without the new "-u" flag (which captures NFS4 / extended attributes), the restore on an AIX 5.1/5.2 system will SUCCEED. --------------------------------------- If you are running AIX 5.3 and perform a SysBack backup with the new "-u" flag in order to computer NFS4 / extended attributes, *and* you do *not* have NFS4 file attributes set, the restore on an aIX 5.1/5.2 ssytem will SUCCEED. 2) For Volume Groups Using Dynamic LTG Size By default, when you create a volume group on AIX 5.3, it uses a dynamic LTG size. In earlier versions of AIX, the LTG size was static and configurable. You may recreate a volume group created on AIX 5.3 to a system running and earlier level of AIX and simply specify the size that you would like to have for the LTG. However, AIX will not let you import the volume group to a pre-AIX 5.3 level. ======================================== New VGINFO File Fields ======================================== New stanzas in the vginfo file VG53 vgname dltg dltg = Dynamic LTG size (y/n) If it is set to "n", then the mkvg will use the -I -L ltg flags. Makes the vg backwards compatible. If it is set to "y", then the mkvg will run by default and create a dynamic LTG size VG. Can only be imported on AIX 5.3+ LV53 priority mountpt vgname lvname strwpd stripetype strwpd -- Stripe width of a striped LV which equates to the number of disks that a stripe LV will be spread across. Default was the total disk that this lv was created on. stripetype -- k or m (k KB or m for MB) Supported AIX values at 5.3 are 8k ... 128m (in increments of base 2, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256 ....) FS2EXT mountpt vgname lvname eaformat quota eaformat = "v1" version 1 (default) and "v2" version 2 (supports NFS4) quota = no, userquota, and or groupquota (you could have an entry like userquota, groupquota) *************************************************************************** **THIS FIX SHOULD ONLY BE APPLIED TO SYSBACK 5.6.5.0, 5.6.6.0 and 5.6.7.0 * *************************************************************************** Install Instructions: 1. installp -acqd sysback.567.efix1.rte all **************************************************************** If you require assistance installing this fix, please call technical support at 1-800-IBM-SERV ****************************************************************
