Welcome to IBM WebSphere Studio 4.0 Fixpack 1 (V4.0.1). This README contains information about installing and using IBM WebSphere Studio 4.0.1. This Fixpack will upgrade your copy of IBM WebSphere Studio Entry, Professional, or Advanced Edition from version 4.0 to version 4.0.1.

Why install this Fixpack

This Fixpack includes the following updates and enhancements:

• This Fixpack includes updated Jars for full support of WebSphere Application Server Advanced Edition, V4.0. These jars are located in the AppServerV4 directory in the install directory of Studio, V4.0.
  
  
• The Jar Creation wizard will now automatically add the .jar extension to your files when you do not specify an extension.
  
  

This Fixpack also includes the following corrections:

• The encoding for the JSP 1.1 compiler was not properly set before invoking the compiler. As a result, DBCS languages may have experienced JSP 1.1 compilation errors.
  
  
• The JavaBean.jsp Studio template has been updated to reflect JSP 1.0 syntax.
  
  
• In a multi-user environment, Studio now issues an error message when you publish if the project is out of synch and needs to be refreshed. Before this fix was implemented, Studio was performing the refresh without issuing the message. The message lets you know that other files may need to be republished and provides a list of those files. The message states, "The project has been modified. Please select files for publishing."
  
  
• This Fixpack addresses compilation errors you may have experienced when compiling JSP 1.1 code in AppServer 4.0 projects.

How to install this Fixpack

Before you can install Fixpack 1, you must already have Studio, V4.0 Entry, Professional or Advanced edition installed.

To verify that you have Studio V4.0 installed:

1. Launch Studio.
2. From the Studio main menu, select Help, About.

To install this Fixpack on WebSphere Studio 4.0 Entry, Professional, or Advanced Editions:

1. Download the Studio Fixpack installation file from the Web site.
   
2. Unzip the file into a local directory.
3. Close Studio.
4. Run setup.exe.
   
5. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Uninstall

You cannot uninstall this Fixpack without removing the base product, Studio. To uninstall this Fixpack and Studio, use the Add/Remove programs option in Windows.
