Kate Voice for WebSphere® Voice Server Version 5.1.3.1

This document contains information about the new fifth generation voice, Kate. You can install this voice separately and the voice does not need to be selected during the WebSphere Voice Server version 5.1.3 installation.
This readme contains the following information:
The Kate voice is a UK English female voice that can be used with WebSphere Voice Server 5.1.3.1. Kate is a smoother, more natural sounding voice.

Follow the instructions that are appropriate for your operating system to install the voice:
Prerequisites
Make sure you meet the following requirements:
- Software: Verify that WebSphere Voice Server 5.1.3.1 is installed prior to installing the new voice.
- Hardware: An additional 1 GB of memory is required. Also the installation requires 3 GB of memory in the /usr file system to decompress and install the voice. If the required space is not available and there is adequate space in its volume group, expand the file system using the chfs command or SMIT or uninstall products that are no longer necessary.
Note: Due to operating system memory limitations, WebSphere Voice Server can only support
a limited number of fifth generation voices. See Estimating resources for TTS engines in the WebSphere Voice Server information center for more information.
Installing the voice
This voice is delivered in this file: IY83766.tar
Complete the following steps to install the voice:
- Create a directory to contain the voice
file. For example, wvs5131kate.
- Change directory to the voice directory. For example:
cd wvs5131kate
- Untar the
file:
tar -xvf
file_name
- Stop WebSphere Application Server.
- Make sure the voice installation files are executable files by running the following command:
chmod 755 file_name
- Start the voice installation script by running the following command:
./setup.bin
The installation GUI will launch and provide status messages and instructions.
Note: You must accept the default installation path during the installation. Doing so ensures that the configuration information is correctly updated for WebSphere Voice Server. Do not enter another directory or use the browse button to change the installation path.
- If a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) is not found, specify the location of the JVM included with WebSphere Application Server with the following parameter:
-is:javahome /usr/WebSphere/AppServer/java/jre
- Once the installation completes without error, restart WebSphere Application Server:
The voice is now installed.

- Change directory to the voice directory. For example:
cd wvs5131kate
- Untar the

- Stop WebSphere Application Server.
- Make sure the voice installation files are executable files by running the following command:

Complete the following steps to install the voice:
- Create a directory to contain the voice
file. For example, wvs5131kate.
- Change directory to the voice directory. For example:
cd wvs5131kate
- Unzip the
file.
- Stop WebSphere Application Server.
- Start the voice installation script by running the following command:
setup.exe
The installation GUI will launch and provide status messages and instructions.
Notes:
- If Terminal Services is installed on your Windows 2003 system, run the following command to remove restrictions on reading configuration information:
change user /install
- You must accept the default installation path during the installation. Doing so ensures that the configuration information is correctly updated for WebSphere Voice Server. Do not enter another directory or use the browse button to change the installation path.
- If a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) is not found, specify the location of the JVM included with WebSphere Application Server with the following parameter:
-is:javahome %WAS_ROOT%/java/jre
%WAS_ROOT% is the installation location of WebSphere Application Server.
- Once the installation completes without error, restart WebSphere Application Server:
The voice is now installed.

If necessary, complete the following steps to uninstall the voice:
- Prior to uninstalling Kate, change the default voice to one of the standard voices, such as Sally.
- Open the WebSphere Application Server administrative console.
- Click the the voice server and then click the Configuration tab.
- For Default voice settings, select the default voice.
- Click OK and save your settings.
- Restart WebSphere Application Server.
- Open the administrative console and make sure your changes took effect.
- Stop WebSphere Application Server.
- Change directory to the $WVS_ROOT/IBM/uninstallers/_uninst_ibmtts_En_GB_Voice_7at08KHz directory and run the uninstallation script:
./uninstaller.bin
$WVS_ROOT is the installation location of WebSphere Voice Server.
- The uninstallation script will provide status messages and instructions.
The voice is now uninstalled.
If necessary, complete the following steps to uninstall the voice:
- Prior to uninstalling Kate, change the default voice to one of the standard voices, such as Sally.
- Open the WebSphere Application Server administrative console.
- Click the the voice server and then click the Configuration tab.
- For Default voice settings, select the default voice.
- Click OK and save your settings.
- Restart WebSphere Application Server.
- Open the administrative console and make sure your changes took effect.
- Stop WebSphere Application Server.
- Change directory to %WVS_ROOT%/IBM/uninstallers/_uninst_ibmtts_En_GB_Voice_7at08KHz and run the uninstallation script:
uninstaller.exe
%WVS_ROOT% is the installation location of WebSphere Voice Server.
- The uninstallation script will provide status messages and instructions.
The voice is now uninstalled.
