1.0 Introduction

This readme file pertains to the online documentation provided with WebSphere Studio.

2.0 Known problems

2.1 Struts documentation updates

Getting Started Guide Struts sample

In the Getting Started Guide under "Loading the Struts Trade Sample," 4.0 should be changed to 5.0 and 8080 should be changed to 7080 in the following bullet item: Created a server project named Trade Server, which runs in the WebSphere version 4.0 test environment and listens on TCP/IP port number 8080.

2.2 JNDI name of Onlineitem bean incorrect in Online Auction scenario document

In the 'Test the business methods section' of the 'Working with the Online Auction sample application' topic, all instances of the word OnlineitemHome should be replaced with OnlineitemLocalHome. The corresponding screen capture for this task is also incorrect. For example, step 3 of that subsection should read:

3. Click the OnlineitemLocalHome link.

2.3 Page Designer Classic and embedded graphics tools are not available for Linux

Page Designer Classic, along with the embedded graphics tools, WebArt Designer and AnimatedGif Designer, are not available in WebSphere Studio for Linux 5.0.x. Therefore, any inadvertant references to these tools in help files or F1 infopops should be disregarded.

2.4 Moving views when Motif is your window view system

If you are working with WebSphere Studio on Linux and your window view system is Motif, you must select a view with your middle mouse button in order to be able to move it around. Otherwise, if you have a two button mouse, you hold both buttons down when selecting a view if you want to move it.

2.5 Changes in instructions for the Hospital scenario

When you create the patient or insurance Web service, a warning may pop up that says that the Web service is not WS-I compliant. This warning can be ignored.

2.6 More information about Page Designer Classic

For more information on enabling and disabling Page Designer Classic, refer to the Web tools release notes.

2.7 Updates to the "Installing Rational ClearCase LT" section in the Installation Guide

In release 8.0, Red Hat has changed the default value of the LANG environment variable to en_US.UTF-8, which ClearCase does not support. If you use ClearCase GUIs on Red Hat Linux 8.0, you must set the value of LANG in the /etc/sysconfig/i18n file to an encoding that ClearCase supports, such as C or en_US.iso885915. Once you have set the LANG environment variable to a value that ClearCase supports, make sure that the SUPPORTED variable in the i18n file also contains this value. If it does not, add this value to the SUPPORTED variable.

2.8 WSDL errors after importing a Web services file from 4.0.x

(This is a migration item.) If you have imported a Web services file from 4.0.x, you may receive the following error messages:

Error The part 'result' has an invalid value 'anyElement' defined for its type. Type declarations must refer to valid values defined in a schema.

Error The part 'return' has an invalid value 'findPatientResult' defined for its element. Element declarations must refer to valid values defined in a schema.

Error The part 'response' has an invalid value 'findPatientResponse' defined for its element. Element declarations must refer to valid values defined in a schema.

The workaround is:

  1. Delete the WSDL files.
  2. Regenerate your Web services by rerunning the Web Services wizard.

2.9 Using WebSphere Studio Version 5.1 with Version 5.0 workspace

When WebSphere Studio Version 5.1 is started for the first time using an existing WebSphere Studio Version 5.0 workspace a dialog box appears showing you one way to migrate from Version 5.0 to Version 5.1. Click OK to migrate the Version 5.0 workspace to Version 5.1, or click Cancel to stop WebSphere Studio from starting.

When the workspace is migrated to Version 5.1, you can still use the workspace with Version 5.0 as the metadata of the new project features of Version 5.1 are ignored and can be read by Version 5.0. You cannot make any changes in Version 5.0 to the projects in the workspace that would effect the metadata or overwrite the metadata of the new project feature of Version 5.1 projects.

For more information about the new project features in Version 5.1, refer to the WebSphere Studio Migration Guide.

2.10 Ignore the Embedded Messaging Client only has been installed message

Even though the messaging and queuing support was not installed, you may receive the "Embedded Messaging Client only has been installed" message upon starting the server. This message refers to the build-in client code for the MQ Simulator for Java Developers and not the messaging and queuing support code. The message can be safely ignored.

2.11 Changing default selections when using Update Manager

When using Update Manager to apply service, you may be prompted with an Optional Features dialog asking if you would like to update optional features. Do not modify the default selections. If you attempt to service a feature that is not already installed on your system, you will receive error messages.

2.12 Migration Guide updates

2.13 Alternate image text does not appear in documentation

The alternate image text for documentation images does not appear when you are viewing the documentation on Linux.

2.14 Cannot partially uninstall required features

If you try to partially uninstall one or more of the WebSphere Studio Application Developer required features (such as, Integrated Development Environment or WebSphere Application Server Version 5.0), you will receive an error message similar to:

"Invalid selection:
Unable to uninstall ide_required: root is not set for uninstall"

To work around this problem, select the Product Uninstallation check box. The uninstallation panel will be reinitialize so that you may now uninstall WebSphere Studio Application Developer entirely, or unselect the features that you do not want to uninstall.

2.15 Canceling the installation program may take a while before the cancel takes affect

If during the installation of the product you press Cancel, the installation program may continue for a while before the cancel takes affect.

2.16 Clarification of steps for installing and uninstalling the messaging and queuing support

In the section "Installing and uninstalling the messaging and queuing support on Linux", the following steps are not clear.

2.17 Update to the installation guide - modifying your installation

If you install WebSphere Studio, and then start the installation program again to install (or re-install) various componenent, and select to cancel the installation before it finishes, you may receive the following error:

"Errors occured during the installation - User cancelled installation".

When you attempt to uninstall the product, you may receve the following error:

"A suitable JVM could not be found. Please run the program again using the option -is:javahome <JAVA HOME DIR>.

To work around this, you must run the installation program again, then uninstall the product.

2.18 Update to Installing and uninstalling Agent Controller on Linux section in Install guide

The Note in step 3 in the "Installing and uninstalling Agent Controller on Linux" section, should say:

Note: Ensure that executable Java file is in your path because SetConfig.sh runs a Java program. The following example show how you may set your path (type all on one line):

export PATH=/opt/IBM/WebSphereStudio/ProductName/v5.1/runtimes/base_v5/java/jre/bin:$PATH

where ProductName is ApplicationDeveloper or SiteDeveloper.

2.19 Security feature not available for Agent Controller on AIX

The log in security feature for Agent Controller is not available if you install Agent Controller on AIX.
