Correcting the error that prevents the launchpad from starting

The launchpad supports the following browsers:

To correct the error that prevents the launchpad from starting, perform the following steps:

  1. If you do not have the Mozilla Web browser, download and install the Mozilla Web browser from http://www.mozilla.org.

    On Linux and UNIX platforms, export the location of the supported browser.
    For example, type the following at the command line:
    export BROWSER=/usr/bin/mozilla

  2. If the product CD is no longer accessible, insert the CD into a CD drive.
  3. On Linux and UNIX platforms, mount the drive if necessary.
  4. Restart the launchpad
    On Linux and UNIX platforms, type the following at the command line:
    ./launchpad.sh
    On Windows platforms, type the following at the command line:
    launchpad.exe

2. IBM WebSphere Profile Management Tool Client for i5/OS

IBM WebSphere Profile Management Tool Client for i5/OS is a configuration tool used to create and augment profiles in a WebSphere ESB installation on an i5/OS system.

3. Message service clients

The clients extend the messaging capabilities of WebSphere ESB to non-Java environments.

These capabilities can exploit TCP/IP, SSL, HTTP, and HTTPS to support interoperation with the WebSphere family, including WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere MQ, and WebSphere Message Broker. You can use a broad range of interaction models such as request/reply, point-to-point, and publish/subscribe.

To use these clients, you must install them on the systems where the related applications are running.

This software is not required for using WebSphere ESB.

4. Additional software to support the server

In addition to WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus and WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment, the product package also includes additional software to support the runtime environment: Web development tools, a Web server, and additional supporting software and documentation.

This software is not required for using WebSphere ESB.

5. IBM Update Installer for WebSphere ESB

IBM Update Installer is the tool used to install updates (interim fixes, fix packs and refresh packs) to WebSphere software, including WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus releases, WebSphere Process Server releases, WebSphere Application Server releases, IBM HTTP Server, Web Server plug-ins, and WebSphere Application Clients.

6. IBM Installation Factory for WebSphere ESB

IBM Installation Factory is a tool for creating a customized WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus installation package. Installation packages can be customized to include updates (interim fixes, fix packs and refresh packs), profile customizations, run scripts, or install other user-defined files.

7. IBM WebSphere ESB Help System

The IBM WebSphere ESB Help System is a tool that will install an Eclipse viewer and allow the infomation center for WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus to reside on the local computer.

8. IBM Support Assistant

The IBM Support Assistant (ISA) is a tool used to resolve questions and problems with IBM software products. It includes searches across multiple sources, access to critical product information, troubleshooting and diagnostic tools, and automated data gathering and problem submission tools. After the ISA is installed, you can install product-specific plugins for WebSphere Process Server and other IBM products by starting ISA and clicking the Updater icon on the Welcome screen.

Procedure for installing the software without using the launchpad

If you cannot use the launchpad, you can start the software installers and open the accompanying documentation, from the command line.

To install WebSphere ESB,
insert the CD labeled WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus V6.1 Disk 1 and type the following at the command line:
On Windows platforms: WBI\install.bat
On UNIX platforms: WBI/install

To install WebSphere Profile Management Tool Client for i5/OS,
insert the CD labeled WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus V6.1 Disk 1 and type the following at the command line:
On Windows platforms: PMTClient\PMTInstaller.exe

To install Message Service Client for C/C++,
insert the CD labeled WebSphere Enterprise Service Bus V6.1 Disk 1 and type the following at the command line:
