PQ52888: CODE TO WRITE TO A CLOB IS INCORRECT WHEN USING AN ORACLE DATABASE.

APAR status
Closed as suggestion for future release.

Error description
Personalization L3 development is currently testing
WAS AE v4.0. Websphere personalization is attempting to store
data in an Oracle database that is larger than 4000 characters.
For Oracle, the limit on a VARCHAR is 4000 characters. So,
naturally we picked CLOB so we could store the data. However,
the generated code for CLOB does not work. We get an exception
when writing larger amounts of data (works for smaller amounts
of data).
.
We wrote a problem report against Oracle. They responded by
saying that our code to write to a CLOB is not correct.
Oracle sent us an example of how the code needs to be written to
store data into a CLOB.
.
*L3 Personalization development is currently working with L3 ejb
 deploy team on a solution.

This APAR is being closed as a suggestion for inclusion in a
possible future release.
From what has been learned, this is actually a limitation in
Oracle's driver. The "fix" is a huge workaround, completely
non-standard, that would affect queries, and several Oracle
specific stored procedures and workarounds.
From researching this topic on the web (discussion boards
and Oracle's own site), Oracle 9i is fixing this, and they
will have standard support then. This is not something that
has ever worked, it's an Oracle restriction that's always been
there.
