![]() APAR status Closed as program error. Error description Websphere Application Server V4.0.x All platforms To resolve the confusion issue with customers who need to put on the WAS PTF on plugin only install, the wording on the PTF installer needs to be changed/updated so customer know to select "YES" to install application server even though they only need plugin code. With the exception of the JDK upgrade in the ptf, any file(s) under the /WebSphere/AppServer directory is considered part of the Application Server (according to the PTF installer). Therefore if want to upgrade any files within the /WebSphere/AppServer directory (eg: plugin files), you must choose "YES" to upgrade the Application Server. This is the way the PTF installer is designed. You do not always have to choose "yes" to upgrad the AppServer. There are instances when a user may only want to upgrade their JDK, IHS, or add support for iPlanet, etc. In these cases, the user can choose "NO" to not upgrade the application server.Local fix Problem summary **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere Application Server 4.0 Advanced * * and Single Server editions on all platforms * * installing a PTF. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: During the install of a PTF, users who * * have component only installations (such * * as a plugin only installation) were * * not entering "yes" to update the * * application server, thus the necessary * * files were not being updated. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When the PTF install script is run it prompts the user to ask if they want to update application server, users who have for example a plugin-only installation were not entering "yes" to update the application server which results in the plugin files not being updated. Users were confused by the question the install script asks because they only have a component of WebSphere installed, not the server.Problem conclusion A message was added to the install script to warn the user to enter "yes" to updating the application server even if they have a component-only installation. The PTF installer considers anything under the /WebSphere/AppServer directory (except for the java directory) part of the application server. Therefore if any files are to be updated the user must enter "yes" to update the application server.Temporary fix Comments
