Enterprise bean does not start because database cannot be found
 Technote (FAQ)

Problem
When starting your application server, your enterprise bean does not start. You also receive an SQLSTATE code of 42705, indicating that your database could not be found.

Solution
When starting your application server, you see the following messages:

WSVR0037I: Starting EJB jar: WCSCommon
CNTR0031W: Error starting CMP bean:
WebSphere Member Subsystem#wms.commonejb.jar#Currency
CNTR0032W: Error creating CMP persister using datasource:
local:jdbc/jdbc/wmsDS
WSVR0062E: Failed to start EJB, WebSphere Member
Subsystem#wms.commonejb.jar#Currency: IBM CLI Driver
SQL1013N The database alias name or database name "WMS421"
could not be found. SQLSTATE=42705

Note: Replace "WMS421" with the name of your database.

The SQLSTATE code of 42705 indicates that either the database does not exist, or the server cannot connect to it. If your database does exist, it could be possible that your admin.config file, located in your $WAS_HOME/bin directory, is defined to use the wrong DB2 instance. Change the path to point to the correct instance.
