MustGather: Classloader problem determination on V4.0

Problem
MustGather for problems with the WebSphere® Application Server V4.0 (all releases) Classloader component. Gathering this information before calling IBM® support helps familiarize you with the troubleshooting process saves you time.
 
Solution
If you have already contacted support, continue on to the component-specific MustGather information. Otherwise, click: MustGather: Read first for all WebSphere Application Server products.

classloader specific MustGather information

  1. In the administrative client, select the Application Server in the topology tree.
  2. Select the Services tab, then select Trace Service > Edit properties.
  3. In the Trace Service window, specify the trace string: com.ibm.ws.classloader.*=all=enabled
  4. Specify the output file with the fully_qualified _path.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Deploy the classloaderdump EAR file, attached in this document.
    In the past, this EAR file did not work if Global Security was enabled.

    Note: This EAR has been modified to work with Global Security enabled.

  8. Regen the plugin if not accessing over servlet engine transport port.
  9. Stop the Application Server.
  10. Start the Application Server.
  11. Recreate the problem.
  12. Specify URL in a browser: http://localhost/classloaderdump/dump or http://localhost:9080/classloaderdump/dump
    Note: substitute your hostname for localhost.
  13. Navigate down to the Web application module or EJB module that experiences the problem.
  14. Click on showPaths.
  15. Save the output from the classloader dump.
  16. Send the following files:
    • stderr and stdout for Application Server
    • tracefile
    • admin.config
    • output from classloaderdump (in html format)
    • output from classloader trace
    • EAR file that encounters the problem
    • XMLConfig full export of the WebSphere Application Server domain
  17. Follow instructions to send diagnostic information to IBM support.
