Increase Maximum Allowable Client Connections by Tuning the Object Request Broker (ORB)
 Technote (FAQ)

Problem
Running a large number of Java clients on WebSphere® Application Server V4.0 (all releases) with Workload Management (WLM) enabled may result in ORB exceptions. If the number of Java clients exceeds 240 then org.omg.CORBA.BAD_PARAM and org.omg.CORBA.MARSHAL exceptions may be thrown.

Solution
The ORB maintains a connection table with a high-water mark that allows it to close older connections if this mark is exceeded. The default setting allows 240 connections to an application server. You can tune the ORB to increase the maximum number of connections using the com.ibm.CORBA.MaxOpenConnections property to support a heavy load of up to 1,000 clients.

Follow these steps to set the property through the JVM Command Line Arguments field:
  1. In the administrative console, select the application server that you are tuning.
  2. Click the JVM Settings tab and then click the Advanced JVM Settings option (You might have to scroll down to see the Advanced JVM Settings).
  3. In the Command Line Arguments field, type
-Dcom.ibm.CORBA.MaxOpenConnections=<maxConnections>

where <maxConnections> is an integer value less than or equal to 1000.
