Security errors when invoking the WebSphere Test Environment
 Technote (FAQ)

Problem
When you install WebSphere® Studio Application Developer (WSAD), the WebSphere Test Environment (WTE) is also installed. The WTE is actually WebSphere AEs packaged within the directories of WSAD. For Microsoft® Windows® 98 installations, the WebSphere Application Server security check box is turned off (and greyed out) within the configuration for the WTE, since WebSphere security is not allowed on that operating system. However, you can receive the following errors within the console log, even though you are not using WebSphere Application Server security.

WSRegistryImp X Unable to initialize user registry class ... A device attached to the system is not functioning
SECJ0108E: Unexpected exception occurred when getting user registry or registry attributes.
NTRegistryImpl ... StandardIniti W SECJ0007E: Error during security initialization. Exception

Cause
The WTE environment attempts to use user attributes and user registry information on Microsoft Windows 98 systems but does not have the proper environment to do so.

Solution
This user attributes and user registry information is only needed if WebSphere Application Server security is used within the WTE. Since WebSphere Application Server security within WTE cannot be used on Microsoft Windows 98 installations, these messages can be ignored. The WTE initializes and functions properly even though these security messages are issued.

Note: WebSphere Application Server AEs is not supported on Microsoft Windows 98.
