The Java™ 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE™) Connector architecture defines a standard architecture that enables the integration of various enterprise information systems (EIS) with application servers and enterprise applications. It defines a standard resource adapter used by a Java application to connect to an EIS. This resource adapter can plug into the application server and, through the Common Client Interface (CCI), provide connectivity between the EIS, the application server, and the enterprise application. A J2EE Connector Architecture (JCA) resource adapter is any resource adapter conforming to the JCA Specification. WebSphere Application Server supports any resource adapter that implements version 1.0 of this specification.

A Resource Adapter Archive (RAR) file is a Java archive (JAR) file used to package a resource adapter for the Java 2 Connector Architecture for WebSphere Application Server. A RAR file can contain the following:
  • Enterprise information system (EIS) supplied resource adapter implementation code in the form of JAR files or other executables, such as dynamic link lists (DLL).
  • Utility classes.
  • Static documents, such as HTML files, images, and sound files.
  • J2C common client interfaces, such as cci.jar.

The standard file extension of a RAR file is .rar.

    • Name of the resource adapter and the third party vendor who supplies your resource adaptor (for example: Customer Information Control System (CICS®), Host On-Demand (HOD), Information Management System (IMS), mySAP, and so forth)
    • What is the exception?
    • Describe the scenario when the exception occurred
    • Stderr and stdout for the Application Server.
