Problem |
Users defined in NT Domain groups used will not
authenticate and recently began to fail. Searching for users and groups
through the administrative console also failed to find domain users and
groups.
Discovered the following messages in the NT's system event log.
ERROR:
The browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list too many times
on transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{F035566B-D87E-4917-9D5B-70F62EECE0EA}.
The backup browser is stopping.
WARNING:
The browser was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser
master \\CAUAT009 on the network
\Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{F035566B-D87E-4917-9D5B-70F62EECE0EA}. The data is
the error code. |
|
Cause |
The server that was acting as a master browser was secured
to a point were other servers were unable to pull the server list from
it. |
|
Solution |
Resolved this by disabling it as a possible master browser
candidate and the following election chose a different server as that
segments master browser.
Disabling a server from being a master browser can be done by changing
the IsMasterDomain setting to false in the Windows® server's system
registry. See Microsoft® documentation on using Regedit for editing the
systems registry. |
