 Downloadable files

Abstract
Reduce abandon LDAP operations in WebSphere V4.0, and facilitate concurrent calls from WebSphere to LDAP.

Download Description
PK08948 resolves the following problem:

ERROR DESCRIPTION:
Too many abandon LDAP operations are seen in WebSphere V4.0.7. Some abandons are normal, but there is a need to reduce the number of abandon operations.

Facilitating concurrent calls to the LDAP server from WebSphere will reduce bottlenecks.

PROBLEM SUMMARY:

USERS AFFECTED:
WebSphere Application Server 4.0 security users with LDAP user registry.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Too many unexpected abandon LDAP operations observed.

RECOMMENDATION:
Too many abandon LDAP operations are seen in WebSphere V4.0.7. Some abandons are normal, but there is a need to reduce the number of unnecessary abandon operations.

Need to facilitate concurrent calls to the LDAP server from WebSphere will reduce bottlenecks.

PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
WebSphere security explicitly forces NamingEnumeration.hasMore() to return false if only one element is expected, so that JNDI will not call LDAP abandon operation.

Add additional LDAP connection for each 10 concurrent LDAP searches to reduce bottlenecks between WebSphere and LDAP server.

The fix for this APAR would be published under the name of PK08948_Fix.jar.
