APAR status Closed as program error. Error description After installing FixPack, the permissions for java and also some of libraries, have changed such that no user other than root can run WebSphere. Even though WebSphere is configured for non-root user.Local fix To alleviate this problem I run the following script while in the WebSphere base directory (/usr/IBMWebAS): cd bin chmod a+r *.so chmod a+r *.a cd ../lib chmod og+r *.jar chmod og+r *.zip cd ../java chmod og+rx chmod og+rx bin/* sh/* jre/bin/* jre/sh/* jre/bin/classic/* jre /lib/security/* lib/* chmod og+rx bin/ sh/ jre/ jre/bin/ jre/sh/ jre/lib jre/lib/secur ity/ lib/ chmod og+rx jre/lib/*.jar chmod og+rx jre/lib/font.* jre/lib/*.properties chmod -R og+rx jre/lib/ext chmod -R og+rx jre/lib/cmm chmod -R og+rx jre/lib/fonts chmod -R og+rx jre/lib/images chmod -R og+rx jre/lib/locale chmod -R og+rx jre/lib/audioProblem summary **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere Application Server Users that * * have already installed 4.0.x for non-root * * users on a unix system. In particular, this poses problems that have set the application server or admin to be run as a non-rott user(s). Those settings are lost in many cases when the ptf is applied.Problem conclusion The ptf installer code for beyond 4.0.4 will save the owner, group, and permissions of all the files that would lose there settings into the manifest of the backup jar the ptf installer creates before the ptf files are laid down. The owner, group, and permissions are reapplied to the unix system after the file is laid down with the ptf. This fix does not cover reapplication of the settings in a Windows environment.Temporary fix Comments
