APAR status Closed as documentation error. Error description PROBLEM LOCATION: In V4 and V5 online help V4: web\InfoCenter\was\06062600.html V5: com.ibm.ws.console.perftuningadmin/nl/en/urun_rmonitorpol.html PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The Monitoring Policy ping fields do not have a valid value range in their description. Ping Interval, Ping Timeout and V4 only Ping Initial Timeout. In V4 if you set the Ping Initial Timeout to 0, or a value greater than 2147483 the application server will not start. In V4 and V5 if you set the Ping Interval or Ping Timeout to a value greater than 2147483, you will not get the expected results. The application server will act as if you set the values to 0. V4 current: Ping Initial Timeout When a parent process is spawning a child process, this value specifies the maximum time in seconds after the child process starts before the parent must be able to ping the child successfully. After this time elapses, the parent process attempts to restart the child process. Ping Interval The frequency of communication attempts between the parent process, such as a process manager, and the process it is trying to spawn. Adjust this value based on your requirements for restarting failed servers. Decreasing the value detects failures sooner; increasing the value reduces the frequency of pings, reducing system overhead. Ping Timeout When a parent process is spawning a child process, such as when a process manager spawns a server, the parent process pings the child process to see whether the child was spawned successfully. This value specifies the number of milliseconds that the parent process should wait (after pinging the child process) before assuming that the child process failed. V5 current: Ping Interval Specifies the frequency of communication attempts between the parent process, such as the node agent, and the process it has spawned, such as an application server. Adjust this value based on your requirements for restarting failed servers. Decreasing the value detects failures sooner; increasing the value reduces the frequency of pings, reducing system overhead. Data type Integer Ping Timeout When a parent process is spawning a child process, such as when a process manager spawns a server, the parent process pings the child process to see whether the child was spawned successfully. This value specifies the number of seconds that the parent process should wait (after pinging the child process) before assuming that the child process failed. Data type Integer Units SecondsLocal fix PROBLEM SOLUTION: A valid range should be added to the bottom of the description of each field. Ping Timeout: The value should be greater than or equal to 0 and less than 2147483. Ping Interval The value should be greater than or equal to 0 and less than 2147483. Ping Initial Timeout: The value should be greater than 0 and less than 2147483.Problem summary **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Customers using the V4 information * * center article 06062600.html to find * * information on how to set the * * Monitoring Policy ping fields and * * customers using the V5 release help * * panel Monitoring Policy Settings * * urun_rmonitorpol) to set the ping * * interval and ping timeout values. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The Monitoring Policy ping fields in * * the V4 information center article * * 06062600.html do not have a valid * * value range in their description. * * The fields include Ping Interval, * * Ping Timeout and V4 only Ping * * Initial Timeout. * * For example, if you set the Ping * * Initial Timeout to 0, or a value * * greater than 2147483 the * * application server will not start. * * The ping timeout and ping timeout * * fields in the Monitoring Policy * * Settings help panel do not list * * the value information. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The Monitoring Policy Ping Interval, Ping Timeout and V4 only Ping Initial Timeout fields in the V4 information center article 06062600.html do not have a valid value range in their description. For V5, the Ping Interval and Ping Timeout fields in the article Monitoring Policy Settings do not list the value information.Problem conclusion A valid range will be added to the bottom of the description of each field for the V4 and V5 articles.Temporary fix Comments
