How to configure a JMS destination or connection factory in the administrative console for WebSphere Application Server 4.0.x AEs
 Technote (FAQ)

Problem
When configuring a JMS destination or connection factory in the WebSphere® 4.0 AEs administrative console, what is entered for the JNDI™ Name and External JNDI Name properties?

Solution
The External JNDI name of the JMS resource is the JNDI name that a resource is bound to with the JMSAdmin tool.

The JNDI name is the name that will be looked up by the application. This allows for an application to look up a different JNDI name than what is bound to the namespace in JMSAdmin.

It is also possible to use the name specified in JMSAdmin within the application by specifying the same value for both External JNDI name and JNDI name. Note that the configuration is different in WebSphere 4.0.x AE. With AE, there is only an External JNDI path.

It is possible to use a different JNDI name in the application by creating a resource reference.
