Configuring WebSphere Application Server 4.0.x AEs as a Service
 Technote (FAQ)

Problem
Installed WebSphere Application Server 4.0.x AEs as Administrator with "log on as a service" and "act as part of the OS" but the WebSphere Application Server service doesn't show up in the system services. Is there a way to make this work?

Solution
Unlike WebSphere Application Server AE, WebSphere Application Server AEs doesn't install as a service. However, you can use WASService.exe, which you will find in $(WAS_HOME)/bin, to add a service for AEs to the services list. From the command line, execute WASService.exe with the Add option. Be sure to install efix PQ54306 to avoid problems starting the service.
