Problems using the DataDirect Connect JDBC (Type 4) driver to connect to a WebSphere Application Server v4.0 administrative repository on MS SQL server 7.0 or 2000
 Technote (FAQ)

Problem
The DataDirect Connect JDBC™ driver is supported for use with WebSphere® Application Server versions 4.0.2 and higher. However there are some known problems when using this driver to connect to an administrative repository database on MS SQL Server. The administrative server might not be able to start, and the following errors might be seen in the tracefile:

java.sql.SQLException: [IBM][SQLServer JDBC Driver][SQLServer]Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK__LOCK_TABLE__76CBA758'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'LOCK_TABLE'.

java.sql.SQLException: [IBM][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Method setMaxFieldSize() cannot be called when the statement is executed.

This problem can occur in WebSphere Application Server 4.0.2 or 4.0.3.

Solution
These issues are resolved by the combination of two fixes:
  1. Connection Pooling Cumulative Fix PQ62295 (or higher), which is available to download from the WebSphere support site. This fix is also included in WebSphere Application Server 4.0.4 and higher.
  2. The latest build of the branded DataDirect Connect JDBC driver, which is also available to download from the WebSphere support site.

When both of these fixes are applied, there is no problem using the driver to connect to WebSphere's administrative repository database.
