![]() APAR status Closed as documentation error. Error description Installation instructions in the WebSphere 4.0 InfoCenter do not include instructions for installing a remote webserver and the plugin. Customers do not have clear instruction on the steps necessary to successfully install and set up a remote webserver and the plugin. Customers are not informed that the WebSphere JDK is needed on the remote webserverto allow for installation of FixPaks or fixes. Without the WebSphere directory structure installed by installing the WebSphere JDK, updates to the remote plugin must be performed manually and are prone to error.Local fix After verifying prerequisites have been met Customer should install WebSphere 4.01 jdk and plugin, then install FixPak to match Application server. Select update application server when prompted during the FixPak install. It will verify that it is plugin only and update the JDK, then select update the iPlanet plugin if appropriate. See Solution #1050388 for additional information.Problem summary **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: Users of WebSphere Application Server, * * who attempt to update a Web server plug-in * * by applying a fix pack on a remote Web * * server machine. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A customer cannot use the fix pack * * installer to update a Web server * * plug-in if they install the plug-in * * by copying it from the WebSphere * * Application Server machine. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Some customers were attempting to update a Web server plug-in by applying a fix pack to the remote Web server machine. However, they never installed WebSphere Application Server on the machine so they could not use the fix pack installer to install a fix pack on the machine. There was no WebSphere Application Server product on the machine to update. The customer must use the WebSphere Application Server installer to install the plug-in on the remote Web server machine. Just deselect all features but the IBM HTTP Server (if using this Web server) and the plug-in for the Web server. This installs everything needed to use subsequent fix packs to apply service to the plug-in. The information in the InfoCenter clearly states that you must use the WebSphere Application Server installer to install the plug-in, if you intend to apply future fix packs to the plug-in.Problem conclusion The information will appear in the V5.0.1 InfoCenter after April 15, 2003. The information will also appear in the external site after May 23, 2003.Temporary fix Comments
