PQ72616: DIST DEBUGGER WON'T START IF NOT INSTALLED IN DEFAULT PATH ON SERVER | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||
APAR status Closed as user error. Error description Customer had installed the IBM Distributed Debugger and Object Level Trace facility (V9) on a Sun Solaris V5.8 system. During install, the customer changed the installation path to meet their standards and requirements, rather than installing in the default path of /opt/IBMdebug. They also installed V9 of the Distributed Debugger and Object Level Trace facility on a Microsoft Windows 2000 system. When attempting to debug an application running on their Solaris system using the Windows 2000 machine for the GUI, the OLT portion of the debugger would attempt to start a portion of the debugger (the engine monitor) on the Solaris system, but this would fail with no error messages. On the Windows 2000 machine, with step-by-step debugging mode selected, the customer would see the Object Level Trace Viewer screen record OLT Trace activity, they would then see the "Method Breakpoint" popup window, they would select the breakpoint in the popup and click on "OK", but the Distributed Debugging window would never appear.Local fix The customer added a symbolic from /opt/IBMdebug to their installation path for the OLT/DD.Problem summary Problem conclusion Temporary fix Comments The 'dbgsetup' file is a script and the customer, if they really wanted to, could modify it to alter the install path. It is not difficult, but also not suggested and not supported. No work will be done to fix the install of the distributed debugger. In this case, it appears as if there was an error in path information.
