Abstract
IBM® WebSphere® Application Server Java™ SDK interim Fix for daylight savings time change in the eastern states of Australia.

Download Description
The running of the Commonwealth Games in Australia in March and April 2006 has resulted in an extension to daylight savings time in the eastern states of Australia, which includes New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Australian Capital Territory and Tasmania.

Rather than the clocks being put back an hour at 03:00 on Sunday 26 March 2006, they will now be adjusted at 03:00 on Sunday 2 April 2006. The IBM Software Development Kit (SDK) or Java Runtime Environment (JRE) is not currently aware of the one-time change to the daylight savings time extension. An interim fix is required for your application to have the same time as your operating system.

This change applies to all of the Java environments, irrespective of their setup, whether they are set up to use the operating system time zone information, or the user.timezone custom property that can be set for the SDK or JRE.

SDK interim fixes are available for IBM WebSphere Application Server Version 6.0.2, Version 5.1.1, Version 5.0.2 and Version 4.0.3-4.0.7.

The SDK interim fix is provided as a complete IBM 1.4.2 SDK Service Release on the platforms below, as follows:
  • Linux® for IA32 (IBM SDK 1.4.2 Service Release 4-1 + Australian DST fix)
  • AIX® for PPC32 (IBM SDK 1.4.2 Service Release 4-1 + Australian DST fix)
  • Microsoft® Windows® for IA32 (IBM SDK 1.4.2 Service Release 4-1 + Australian DST fix)
  • Solaris for SPARC_32 (Solaris SDK 1.4.2_11 + IBM SDK Service Release 4. Australian DST fix is included in Solaris SDK 1.4.2_11)
  • HP-UX for PA-RISC (HP-UX SDK 1.4.2.10a + IBM SDK Service Release 4. Australian DST fix is included in HP-UX SDK 1.4.2.10a)

The SDK interim fix is provided as a complete IBM 1.3.1 SDK Service Release on the platforms below, as follows:
  • Linux for IA32 (IBM SDK 1.3.1 Service Release 9-1 + Australian DST fix)
  • AIX for PPC32 (IBM SDK 1.3.1 Service Release 9-1 + Australian DST fix)
  • Microsoft Windows for IA32 (IBM SDK 1.3.1 Service Release 9-1 + Australian DST fix)
  • Solaris for SPARC_32 (Solaris SDK 1.3.1_18. Australian DST fix is included in Solaris SDK 1.3.1_18)

Note:
  • IBM SDK 1.3.1 differs from later releases in that it cannot support multiple timezone rules.
  • The IBM SDK 1.3.1 workaround for this issue is to give one extra week to DST for the affected timezone when the JVM is started in 2006.
  • Any JVM started in 2007 will have the restored (normal) Australian DST time rules.
