ServiceInitializer Interface not Available in V4.0

Problem
Beginning in WebSphere® Application Server V4.0, the ServiceInitializer interface is no longer available. It has been replaced by a facility called custom services.
 
Solution
Unlike the ServiceInitializer, the custom services does not support starting threads, opening sockets or accessing Java™ Naming and Directory Interface (JNDI) functions. More information on custom services can be found in section 4.10 of the WebSphere Application Server Information Center on the web at:
