How to configure WebSphere® Application Server to use multiple named instances of Microsoft® SQLServer 2000

Solution
The DataDirect SequeLink Server must be configured as follows to access two SQLServer instances (running on the same machine) from WebSphere Application Server 4.0.x.
  1. Open the SequeLink Server Manager Snapin from the SequeLink Server Program Group.

  2. Connect to the SLAgent.

  3. Log in when prompted to do so, then click the following, in succession:
    • SequeLink Services
    • The SequeLink Server service for SQLServer (default is SLSQLServer)
    • Configuration
    • Data Source Settings

  4. Right-click Data Source Settings. Select New > Data Source.

  5. Name the data source whatever you choose. For this example, the data source is the name of the SQL Server named instance used to connect with: SQL2000.

  6. Right-click the icon for the new data source, then select New > Attribute.

  7. From the pull-down menu, select the attribute name DataSourceMSSODBCConnStr; if SequeLink 5.0 or 5.1 is used, assign the following value to the attribute:
    • Driver={MERANT MSSS Driver for SequeLink 5.0};Server=MyHostName\INST1or the

following value if SequeLink 5.2 is being used:
    • Driver={MERANT MSSS Driver for SequeLink 5.2};Server=MyHostName\INST1

      Notes:
The value for "Driver=" in the above connection strings must not be left out or SequeLink will not be able to connect to SQL Server.
INST1 is the SQLServer 2000 Named Instance

  8. Repeat these steps to set up a new server data source for each named instance to which SequeLink connects.

To configure the WebSphere data source using the WebSphere Administrative Console, specify the SequeLink server data source name in the serverDataSource property for the WebSphere data source.

To use a specific named instance as WebSphere repository, add the following line to admin.config:

com.ibm.ejs.sm.adminServer.dbserverDataSource=SequeLink Server DataSource

where SequeLink's Server DataSource is the name of your SequeLink Server data source for the specific named instance created above.
