Installing Enterprise Applications into locations other
than the default installedApps directory is not supported because there
are other WebSphere components that are specifically designed to look at
the default installedApps directory.
XMLConfig will allow Enterprise Applications to be deployed in
locations other than the default installedApps directory, but this is not
supported.
If WebSphere is installed on Unix platforms (e.g., AIX), there is a
workaround using symbolic links:
- Deploy the Enterprise Application into the default installedApps
directory.
- Stop the Enterprise Application you will be modifying.
- After stopping the Enterprise Application, copy this EAR file to
another filesystem including the full directory structure and right
owner/group/other permissions.
- Delete this EAR file from the default installedApps directory and
create a symbolic link there to the physical location of this EAR file
(where it was copied before), e.g. ls -s <physical location of EAR>
<WebSphere location>/AppServer/installedApps
Note: One problem with using symbolic links in this way is that you may
experience some delays caused by a slow network or by heavy traffic on the
network.
