 Technote (FAQ)

Problem
Tips for determining what version of the different kinds of software you have installed

Solution
How to tell what I have installed?

WebSphere Application Server version:

  • 4.0x - examine <install root>/properties/com/ibm/websphere/product.xml
  • 5.0x - execute <install root>/bin/versioninfo.bat or .sh

WebSphere Application Server interim fixes (formerly "efixes"):
  • 5.0x
    1. If fixes have been installed via the UpdateInstaller (recommended)
      • start <installRoot>/updateWizard.bat or .sh and select "uninstall efixes" to see what is installed (and then cancel the operation) or
      • examine the file <was root>/properties/version/history/event.history
Operating system version:
  • Windows: from a command prompt, type "ver".
  • AIX from a command prompt, type "oslevel".
  • Other Unix: from a command prompt, type "uname -a".

Database version:
  • DB2 on Windows: click start->programs->IBM DB2->Command line processor and look at output
  • DB2 (all platforms): execute db2level command
  • Sybase: execute "select @@version" from a sybase command prompt
  • Oracle: execute "select * from product_component_version" from Oracle command prompt
  • MS SQLServer: right click on SQLServer icon in taskbar and select 'About'

Web (http) server:
  • IHS or Apache: examine file version.signature
  • IIS: look at O/S version (see above)

JAVA version (for WebSphere):
  • Go to <websphere install>\java\bin directory and type: Java -fullversion
