StringIndexOutOfBoundsException is thrown in WebSphere v4.0.5
 Technote (FAQ)

Problem
Admin server fails with the StringIndexOutOfBoundsException shown in the tracefile.
This behavior may happen immediately after applying PTF5 to WebSphere 4.0.x.
The error in the tracefile may resemble the following:
[2/4/03 10:21:09:158 GMT] 1551b0 ExceptionUtil X CNTR0019E:
Non-application exception occurred while processing method find:
java.lang.StringIndexOutOfBoundsException: String index out of range: 27
at java.lang.String.substring(String.java:1517)
at
com.ibm.ejs.sm.beans.RepositoryObjectImpl.getBinaryAttr
(RepositoryObjectImpl.java:2036)

Cause
Using the value "password" for a password.

Solution
Temporary workaround:
1) Locate the id that uses the value "password" for the password
2) Revise the value to be something other than "password"

Recommended solution:
1) Apply the latest WebSphere maintenance from the Recommended Updates site
