PQ67211: NEED TO RE-ENTER DATASOURCE PASSWORD IF BACKING UP FROM WAS 4.04TO WAS 4.03. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() APAR status Closed as documentation error. Error description The password display encryption mechanism has changed in 4.04 from 4.03. In 4.03, the number of asterisks displayed in the datasource properties in the admin console matched the number of characters in the password. In 4.04, the algorithm has changed so that one cannot know the number of characters in the password based on the number of asterisks in the display. . It turns out that the 'Test Connection' feature is affected by the encryption if the password was entered in WAS 4.04, and then fixpak4 was uninstalled and fixpak 3 installed. Now 'Test Connection' fails. NOTE: The encrypted password in the 'xmlConfig -export' is the same in both the cases- it seems that only the display gets affected. The workaround is simple: simply reenter the password in the datasource properties. . We need to document that if you are at version 4.0.4 and you back up to a previous fix level then you will need to re-enter the password value of the datasource.Local fix Re-enter the password for the datasource in the admin console. However, the documentation for fixpak 4 doesn't address this anywhere.Problem summary **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: The users of WebSphere Application Server * * Version 4.0.4 and 4.0.5. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Need to reenter the password value of * * the data source if you are at WebSphere * * Application Server Version 4.0.5 * * and you back up to a previous version. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The password of the data source needs to be re-entered if running WebSphere Application Server Version 4.0.5 and then a prior version of the app server is used. This is due to a change in the password display encryption mechanism at 4.0.5.Problem conclusion Close this APAR as a documentation change.
