PQ58084: SILENT INSTALL PROBLEM

APAR status
Closed as program error.

Error description
There seems to be a bug with the WAS 4.0.2 installation when
using the
 silent mode (regular installation works fine)
 Denise found out while tracing the script that the standard
install
 does not check if the WAS path is valid while in silent mode it
does and
 it also check for the products.xml while does not exist on a
machine
 that has only IHS and the plugin to WAS.
 .
 This seems to be a bug.
Local fix
 .
 Here is the fix that I come up with to bypass the problem
with the WAS
 FP2 silent install on windows. Basically, I have it check if
the
 WAS_HOME dir is exist instead of checking the produt.xml file
since
 it's missing if you only have WAS plug-in component
installed. I believe
 this is how the WAS FP2 unix version of install.sh script on
unix
 platform checks. Please checks with the development if this
would be an
 approved fix.
 .
 However, the install in non-silent mode not verifying the was
path
 problem still exist. But I won't make a change for this since
we run
 the fixpak silently and the path is preset so the problem
won't happen.
 .
 I Change the following section
 .
 :check_silent_vars Set OverWriteBUJ=-OverWriteBackupJar IF
NOT EXIST
 %WAS_HOME%\properties\com\ibm\websphere\product.xml echo E r
r o r --
 Invalid WAS_HOME set. IF NOT EXIST
 %WAS_HOME%\properties\com\ibm\websphere\product.xml goto
usage
 .
 to
 .
 :check_silent_vars Set OverWriteBUJ=-OverWriteBackupJar IF
NOT EXIST
 %WAS_HOME% echo E r r o r -- Invalid WAS_HOME set.
 IF NOT EXIST %WAS_HOME% goto usage

* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The silent install for 4.0 ptf 2 fails *
* on Windows machines that only have the *
* plugin and web server installed (ie: *
* an install that does not contain the *
*                      product.xml file). It fails saying      *
* that the WAS_HOME the user provided *
*                      is not correct.                         *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
****************************************************************
PTF 2 checks for the product.xml file during a silent install,
if it does not find one then it throws an error saying that
the user provided a bad WAS_HOME.
Problem conclusion
The ptf install script was changed to check if the WAS_HOME
that the user provided exists, instead of checking for the
product.xml file.
