APAR status Closed as Permanent restriction. Error description Environment: WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 4.0.x AEs for Unix . Description: The InfoCenter states that WAS AEs should be able to run as a non-root user with WAS security enabled if the non-root user has root authority. However, WAS does a native call to geteuid which requires it to be 0 which seems to conflict with the documentation. Should the documentation change to state only root can be used with WAS security or should the native call be changed so that non-root users with root authority (defined as belonging to group 0) should work?Local fix Problem summary **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All WebSphere Application Server users with * * security enabled on Unix systems using * * Local OS as a user registry and trying to * * run with an ID with root privileges which * * is not the root ID. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WebSphere fails to initialize. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** WebSphere fails to initialize due to internal checks for UID 0 to make sure the process has root privileges.Problem conclusion The process GID not UID should be checked for a 0 value.Temporary fix Comments
