****************************************************************
* USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere Application Server users of *
* failover for admin servers. *

* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: In a workload managed environment, *
* failover was not working and errors *
* were thrown in the admin console. *

* RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
****************************************************************
The user was attempting to use failover for the admin server,
but had the following property set in the admin.config file:
com.ibm.ejs.sm.adminServer.wlm=false

The InfoCenter in section:
7.2.3 Workload management for administrative servers
contains information about WLM and failover for admin
servers.

Additional information about this property can be found in a
Redbook (see
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com ) called
IBM WebSphere V4.0 Advanced Edition Scalability and
Availability  ( book order number SG24-6192 )

7.1.1 Enabling administrative server failover
Each administrative server in your domain will have failover
automatically enabled at install. This value is set in the
admin.config file in the <WAS_HOME>/bin directory, as follows:

#Enable WLM of AdminServers
com.ibm.ejs.sm.adminServer.wlm=true

This value is set to true by default. It must be set to true
on each of the nodes within your domain for full failover
between nodes. If it is set to false on a node then any
clients using that administrative server will not failover in
the event of a problem. That node will also not participate in
failover for other nodes. If a failure occurs on a node then
the request will not be routed to a server with the above value
set to false.
Problem conclusion
Closing as a documentation update.
