"JDBC persister creation failed" during startup of the default Application Server
 Technote (FAQ)

Problem
JDBC persister creation failed warnings might be logged to the administrative console message log and the activity log when starting the default Application Server for the first time after installing WebSphere® Application Server v4.0 (all releases).

Solution
You could see errors related to a missing database or a missing or not valid database username or password. This can occur in new installations where the default Application Server creates sample Enterprise JavaBeans™ (EJB™). The sample applications, including Trade, shipped with all releases of version 4.0 do not create the databases that the sample Enterprise JavaBeans require.

To diagnose the problem, look at the file Default_Server_stdout.log.

If the subject error is accompanied by an error like:
WSVR0062E: Failed to start EJB, pig211/Samples#AccountAndTransferEJBean.jar#Account: [IBM][CLI Driver] SQL1013N The database alias name or database name "SAMPLE" could not be found. SQLSTATE=42705
create the missing database "SAMPLE".

If the subject error is accompanied by an error like:
WSVR0062E: Failed to start EJB, pig211/Samples#AccountAndTransferEJBean.jar#Account: [IBM][CLI Driver] SQL1403N The username and/or password supplied is incorrect. SQLSTATE=08004

use the WebSphere® Administrative Console to correct the username and password associated with the subject EJB as follows:
  • Select Installed EJB Modules under Default Server in the topology, then select the offending EJB in the property pane and correct the userid and password.

  • Expand Resources > JDBC Providers > Sample DB Driver > DataSources, then select each data source in the property pane at left and verify the username and password.
