Retention Strategy

This information center displays documentation for WebSphere Application Server products. The purpose of this plug-in is to capture the entire content of an out-of-support release. However, content cannot simply be removed from the Web, since customers that have paid for extended support would no longer have access to this information. These customers with support contract extensions have a right and a need to access this content, so it is desirable to separate it from content for currently supported releases.

So, the only remaining option is to separate the content for out-of-support releases from supported releases.

Documentation and solutions related to a release have been collected for packaging in order to separate it from other releases. Content includes updates and fixes on an FTP server, the information center, redbooks, APARs and DCF-published content (such as technotes).

This is an effective way to separate out-of-support release from supported releases. Support-related content is being removed from the Internet to eliminate the following problems for a particular product and version.

When the product/version is removed from official support status, the Web-based out-of-support content is removed from the Web. Leaving on the Web, has demonstrated a number of negative side effects:
