Welcome to IBM WebSphere Application Server Version 3 Release 5. This README file applies to Advanced Edition and Standard Edition.

It is important that you download the full documentation set (full InfoCenter) from the Web site because the product installation provides only a small fraction of the available documentation.

As its name implies, the Getting Started book is the place to begin. Based on your role (installer, administrator, programmer, and so on), it directs you through an optimal set of activities for getting started with the product. It also provides a brief, high-level introduction to the IBM WebSphere Application Server product solution.
The Getting Started book is available from several places:
The installation guides offer illustrated, step-by-step help for installing and configuring the product. Each guide covers a different operating system and database combination, such as installing the product on Windows NT with IBM DB2 as the repository for administrative data.
Installation guides are available on the product Web site Library page.
The product ships with a preview version of the InfoCenter . The preview helps you navigate among the help and Getting Started files installed with the product.
To access the starter InfoCenter, use a browser to open the local file:
<product_installation_root>/web/InfoCenter/index.html
To access the help files, navigate to section 6.6. You can also access the help files as context-sensitive help directly from the WebSphere Administrative Console (Java console) using F1 or the Help menu.
The InfoCenter provides a single point of search and navigation among the many pieces of information available for this product. From one interface, the user has access to planning and configuration information, installation guides, softcopy books, help files, documentation articles, and numerous other technical supplements.
Navigate the InfoCenter as an information web or as a virtual library. It contains printable sets of related articles for the installer, administrator, programmer, troubleshooter, and others.
For users of previous WebSphere Application Server versions, the Information Center replaces the Documentation Center, help frame set, and Troubleshooter.
A "starter" InfoCenter with limited content and capabilities is available with the product installation (see above for access instructions). The full InfoCenter is available from the Web site Library page.
The product Release Notes describe known problems, limitations, and workarounds for Version 3.5.
