Fix (APAR): PQ76261 Status: Fix Release: 5.0.2,5.0.1,5.0.0 Operating System: Windows (General) Supersedes Fixes: PQ72196 PQ72390 PQ73521 PQ74134 CMVC Defect: 170113 Byte size of APAR: 23234 Date: 2003-08-12 Abstract: Service has incorrect status when the log root is changed Description/symptom of problem: When trying to start the windows service for WAS, the service goes to the "started" state and then the "stopped" state. The end result is the server actually starts fine, however the service status is incorrect. Since the status is incorrect, the server can not be stopped via the windows services. Directions to apply fix: NOTE: YOU MUST FIRST DOWNLOAD THE UPDATE INSTALLER TOOL IN ORDER TO INSTALL A FIX. The Fix Installer can be downloaded from the following link: http://www-3.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/support/index.html 1) Create temporary "fix" directory to store the jar file: UNIX: /tmp/WebSphere/fix Windows: c:\temp\WebSphere\fix 2) Copy jar file to the directory 3) Shutdown WebSphere 4) Follow the Fix installation instructions that are packaged with the Fix Installer on how to install the Fix. 5) Restart WebSphere 6) The temp directory may be removed. Directions to remove fix: NOTE: FIXES MUST BE REMOVED IN THE ORDER THEY WERE APPLIED. DO NOT REMOVE A FIX UNLESS ALL FIXES APPLIED AFTER IT HAVE FIRST BEEN REMOVED. YOU MAY REAPPLY ANY REMOVED FIX. If your log root is different from the default log root, you must run the following command before attempting to start the service: \bin\wasservice.exe -add -serverName -logRoot for example: wasservice -add server1 -serverName server1 -logRoot "C:\WebSphere\AppServer\newlogs\server1" NOTE: If the service existed previously, this command will update the service parameters to point to the new logRoot.
