Fix (APAR): PK67450 Status: Fix Release: 6.1.0.17 Operating System: AIX,HP-UX,i5/OS,Linux,Linux pSeries,Linux zSeries,OS/400,Solaris,Windows Supersedes Fixes: CMVC Defect: PK67450 Byte size of APAR: 9261 Date: 2008-06-24 Abstract: A ConnectException is thrown while invoking the method. Description/symptom of problem: PK67450 resolves the following problem: ERROR DESCRIPTION: Caused by: java.io.IOException: javax.xml.transform.TransformerException: java.net.ConnectException: Connection refused: connect at com.ibm.ws.runtime.deploy.DeployedObjectCollaborator .getDeploymentDescriptor(DeployedObjectCollaborator.java:179) LOCAL FIX: PROBLEM SUMMARY USERS AFFECTED: IBM WebSphere Application Server V6.1 users of the getDeploymentDescriptor operation on J2EEDeployedObject MBeans. PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A ConnectException is thrown while invoking the method. RECOMMENDATION: None PK62062 changed the implementation of getDeploymentDescriptor to use an XML parser to properly handle character encoding. There is no other alternative for reliably converting a stream of XML bytes to a String. If a deployment manager or standalone server is behind a firewall or otherwise does not have access to the location defined in the doctype system identifier, ConnectException is thrown. PROBLEM CONCLUSION: The fix for PK62062 has been reverted. Instead, the implementation first tries to read the deployment descriptor as UTF-8. If that fails due to a malformed UTF-8 encoding, the file is read using the default encoding of the operating system. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 6.1.0.19.
