Fix (APAR): PK64849 Status: Fix Release: 6.1.0.17,6.1.0.15 Operating System: AIX,HP-UX,i5/OS,Linux,Linux pSeries,Linux zSeries,OS/400,Solaris,Windows Supersedes Fixes: CMVC Defect: PK64849 Byte size of APAR: 63550 Date: 2008-05-17 Abstract: Users and baseEntries with letter "i" in their name fail to authenticate on Turkish locale. Description/symptom of problem: PK64849 resolves the following problem: ERROR DESCRIPTION: Users with a lowercase letter "i" in their name fail to authenticate using Turkish local. String.equalsIgnoreCase() API may be changing or using a different local. LOCAL FIX: none PROBLEM SUMMARY USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application Server V6.1 PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Users and baseEntries with letter "i" in their name fail to authenticate on Turkish locale. RECOMMENDATION: None When WebSphere Application Server or application clients run in Turkish locale, virtual member manager does not resolve the mapping repository correctly if the baseEntry name contains letter "i",which causes the authentication to fail. PROBLEM CONCLUSION: Virtual member member was comparing the baseEntries using String.toLowerCase().equals(). For Turkish locale, the return value for toLowerCase() could be different than English locale. The solution is to replace these calls with String.equalsIgnoreCase(). This works for most of the cases except it returns false when "uppercase dotted I" and "lowercase dotless i" are compared. The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in fix pack 6.1.0.19.
