Description/symptom of problem: PK48169 resolves the following problem: ERROR DESCRIPTION: Adding the protection against a null cookie value to the converter code LOCAL FIX: N/A PROBLEM SUMMARY USERS AFFECTED: Users of the IBM WebSphere Application Server version 6.0.2 and 6.1 HTTP Channel who create a javax.servlet.http.Cookie object with a null value string. PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A NullPointerException is thrown from CookieUtils when it attempts to convert a Cookie object with a null value into a marshalled string for writing on the network. RECOMMENDATION: None Technically, the HTTP RFCs define a cookie as a name=value pair with additional properties. However, the Cookie object in the JDK allows a null string to be used for the value. The conversion code was not expecting null and throws the NullPpointerException when handling that value. PROBLEM CONCLUSION: Protective code has been added to the converter class to handle the null string as well as a zero length string. It will result in an output string of cookiename="" when sent with the HTTP headers on the network. This is targeted for fixpacks 6.0.2.23 and 6.1.0.13.
