WebSphere Application Server installation information
Installation requirements, examples, and other information for installing and uninstalling WebSphere® Application Server. The WebSphere Application Server offering is the main product offering and provides the application server, which uses Java™ technology to extend web server capabilities to handle web application requests.
About WebSphere Application Server
IBM® WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment is an integrated platform that contains an application server, web development tools, a web server, and additional supporting software and documentation. IBM WebSphere Application Server for z/OS® extends the Network Deployment model to the z/OS platform.
Before you install the product, plan what other optional components you want to install and determine where to install each component.
The installation of the application server product installs a shared set of core product files. Afterward, you create at least one profile, which is a separate file system that includes the files that define a runtime environment for an application server process, such as a deployment manager or an application server.
After installation, you can create an application server profile, a management profile, a cell set of profiles that contains a deployment manager and a federated application server, or a custom profile. At least one profile must exist to have a functioning application server environment. You can use the manageprofiles command or the Profile Management Tool to create profiles. For z/OS, use the Profile Management Tool (z/OS only), which is installed as part of the WebSphere Customization Toolbox on distributed operating systems, or the zpmt.sh command.
