WebSphere Application Server for z/OS® supports migration paths to Version 9.0 from the following releases:
  • Version 7.x
  • Version 8.0
  • Version 8.5.x
In addition to migration, it is possible for these WebSphere Application Server versions to coexist with Version 9.0.

Procedure

  1. Install the Version 9.0 product. For information about preparing your operating system and installing the product, see the installation documentation.
  2. To learn about the migration utilities, read Overview of migration, coexistence, and interoperability.
  3. When you prepare to migrate to Version 9.0, read Migration considerations
You should also plan for any new features that you might want to include. Use the instructions and tips:
    • For system requirements, read the Hardware and software requirements on z/OS article in the documentation.
    • For server security (RACF®), read the Security planning overview article in the documentation.
    • For workload management (WLM), read the Workload management (WLM) for z/OS article in the documentation.
  4. Depending on the product that you are migrating, read Migrating z/OS stand-alone application servers, Migrating WebSphere Application Server, Network Deployment configurations on the z/OS operating system, or Migrating federated nodes for z/OS for planning and migration information.
  5. Review the Ensuring problem avoidance article in the documentation, making sure that each task has been completed before you begin.
  6. Review Roadmap: Migrating and coexisting application servers to determine whether you want the two versions of the product to coexist in the same environment or you want to perform a complete migration.
  7. Use the worksheets to capture the variables used in the current installation.

This information will be useful in planning for the new installation, ensuring that you define unique ports, and planning for the configuration file system structure.
