Migrating a z/OS federated node: Checklist

Activities for migrating a federated node to WebSphere® Application Server Version 9.0 after you generate the appropriate Job Control Language (JCL) jobs include activities related to general preparation, transaction-log clearance, and node migration. Use the following checklist as a quick reference to these activities. Follow the instructions that were generated by the z/OS® Migration Management Tool or the zmmt command to complete the process of migrating your federated node to Version 9.0.

Procedure

  1. Prepare to migrate the federated node.

    Check off Item
__________ Ensure that the federated node has the latest maintenance.

Read Overview of migration, coexistence, and interoperability for more information.

__________ Create CNTL and DATA datasets for each node to be migrated.

Read Preparing to migrate a federated node using the z/OS Migration Management Tool or Preparing to migrate a z/OS federated node using the zmmt command for more information.

__________ Create the previous version configuration mount point; allocate a configuration file system, and mount either manually or using the BBOMMHFS or BBOMMZFS job.
  2. Clear the transaction logs for the federated node.
Table 2. Transaction logs checklist . Enter your values:
    Check off Item
__________ Stop the federated application server.
__________ Run the BBOWMG1F job, and check for success.
__________ Restart the federated application server to clear the transaction logs.
__________ Run the BBOWMG2F job to disable Peer Restart and Recovery (PRR) mode.
  3. Prepare the procedures.
Table 3. Procedures checklist . Enter your values:
    Check off Item
__________ Run the BBOMMCP job to copy the generated JCL procedures to your procedure library.
__________ If you specified new procedure names, update your RACF® STARTED profiles for the controller and daemon.
  4. Migrate the federated node.
Table 4. Federated node checklist . Enter your values:
    Check off Item
__________ Ensure that all servers are stopped, including the daemon server.
__________ Ensure that the deployment manager has the latest maintenance. If the previous version deployment manager is not running, start it.
__________ Run the migration jobs—including the BBOWMG3F job or the BBOWMPRO, BBOWMPRE, and BBOWMPOS jobs—by following the generated instructions; and check for success.
__________ Start the federated application server.
