Define service policy general properties
Create service policies, the main building blocks of an
operational policy, according to the guidelines on this page.
To view this administrative console page, click Operational
Policies > Service Policies > New.
To create, modify, or remove service policies
and transaction classes, you must have administrator or configurator
administrative privileges.
- Name
The name field is required and is a user defined field.
The name field cannot contain the following characters: \
/ , : ; " * ? < > | = + & % ' # The name defined
must be unique among service policies and cannot begin with a . or
a space. A space does not generate an error, but leading and trailing
spaces are automatically deleted. Create meaningful service policy
names that are used consistently. For example, PLATINUM, GOLD, SILVER,
and BRONZE are good service policy names.
- Description
The description field is complementary to the name field
and is user defined. This field is optional, but in environments with
multiple administrators, you must complete this field with useful
information. For example, a description field for a PLATINUM policy
might read, "The PLATINUM service policy is reserved for the highest
priority work."
- Goal type
Goal type is a selectable field that is one the following
values:
- Discretionary
- Discretionary is the default value for Goal Type. A value of discretionary
is used to indicate work that is not high priority and can be scheduled
by the on demand router based upon the existing workload in the queue.
- Average Response Time
- The average response time goal type is indicative of high priority
work. When selecting a goal type of average response time, you need
to fill out specific goal values on the following panels.
- Percentile Response Time
- The percentile response time is a percentage of requests handled
in a specific period of time. This field is used in conjunction with
the Goal Percent field to define the percentage of requests per seconds
or milliseconds that you specify.
- Completion Time
- Specifies the maximum amount of time (minutes) that is acceptable
for a job to complete and still maintain the level of service that
the service policy implies.
