Installing the WebSphere Extended Deployment driver into Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator

Use this task to install the WebSphere® Extended Deployment driver into the Tivoli® Intelligent Orchestrator configuration.

Before you begin

Install Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator and WebSphere Extended Deployment. For more information about installing and using Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator, see the Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator information center. To install WebSphere Extended Deployment, see Installing WebSphere Extended Deployment. These instructions are for the Windows® operating system. See the Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator information center to determine the proper commands for installing this driver on Linux® systems.

About this task

Integrating WebSphere Extended Deployment with Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator enables resource allocation on various levels. Within a WebSphere Extended Deployment node group, applications are allocated resources with a smaller granularity of allocation and on a smaller time scale. Use Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator to bring new servers to the WebSphere Extended Deployment environment, when resource allocation cannot be solved by the WebSphere Extended Deployment configuration alone. If you own Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator, you can use a WebSphere Extended Deployment driver that includes the software and workflow files for WebSphere Extended Deployment.

Procedure

  1. Copy the tcdriver file from the deployment manager configuration to the Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator server. Manually copy the %WAS_HOME%/tio/was-xd.tcdriver file on the deployment manager to the %TIO_HOME%/drivers directory on the Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator server.
[For Unix operating system] Tip: Take care, particularly on UNIX operating systems, that the ownership of the copied file is correct. The file needs to be owned by the correct user and group combination. Typically, the user and group are both called tioadmin, but this name can vary according to how Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator is installed. Use the user and group information of the other tcdriver files in the drivers directory as a guide.
  2. On a command line, navigate to the %TIO_HOME%/tools directory.
  3. Type CD drivers to change to the %TIO_HOME%\drivers directory.
  4. Run the tc-driver-manager command.

[For Windows operating system] On a Windows command line, type tc-driver-manager.cmd forceInstallDriver was-xd.

On a Unix command line, type tc-driver-manager.sh forceInstallDriver was-xd.
  5. Log in to Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator.
  6. Click Software Products > IBM® WAS_XD. If the driver is not installed correctly, the IBM WAS_XD software product does not exist.

Results

The WebSphere Extended Deployment driver is installed on Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator.
