Configuring WebSphere Extended Deployment in the Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator data center model

For Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator Version 3.1 to work with WebSphere Extended Deployment, configure a WebSphere Extended Deployment model in the Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator data center model.

Before you begin

Before you create the data model, you must install the was-xd.tcdriver driver. See Installing the WebSphere Extended Deployment driver into Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator for more information.

About this task

In the data center model, a WebSphere Application Server cell is defined as a management server cluster domain. A management server cluster domain is a type of cluster domain that consists of one or more management nodes that are used to administer one or more redundancy nodes. Each management server cluster domain is associated with one or more application tiers. An application tier is a group of application servers that collaborate for the purposes of workload balancing and failover. Node groups are defined implicitly as properties in application tiers. See Configuration properties for Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator for more information about defining node groups.

Perform the following steps to set up the WebSphere Extended Deployment modeling in Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator.

Procedure

  1. Prepare the cluster domain in the Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator Web interface.
    1. Create a new cluster domain. The domain represents the boundaries of your WebSphere Extended Deployment cell. Select Management server domain for the Cluster domain type.
    2. Associate the device driver with the new cluster domain. Select IBM WebSphere XD ClusterDomain for the device driver to the cluster domain.
    3. Add the deployment manager server to the cluster domain. Select the node on which the deployment manager is configured and click Is management node.
  2. Create and prepare the application tier in the Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator Web interface.
    1. Create a new customer.
    2. Add a new application to the customer. Set the Locale to en_US.
    3. Create a new application tier. Set the Locale to en_US. Associate the application tier with the cluster domain.
Attention: If you are using the objective analyzer, you must have at least one server in each application tier. To prevent the server count from going below 1, adjust the Servers Minimum and Servers Maximum fields on the Application Tier Configuration panel. Set the minimum field to be at least 1.
    4. Start the application. You can put an application online by bringing it out of maintenance management.
  3. Prepare the software product in the Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator Web interface.
    1. In the software catalog, select the WAS_XD software definition.
    2. Modify the Package path value to equal your WebSphere Extended Deployment installable image path. When you install the was-xd.tcdriver driver, the default value of IBM-WASXD linux installable is predefined. You can create installables for other platforms.
    3. Copy your WebSphere Extended Deployment silent installation response file to the Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator server in the <TIO_home>\repository\IBM\WebSphere directory.

Results

You created a data center model for WebSphere Extended Deployment in the Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator Web interface.

What to do next

Create a resource pool in Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator and associate it with the WAS_XD software stack. Set the required configuration properties. See Configuration properties for Tivoli Intelligent Orchestrator for more information.
