WebSphere Extended Deployment extends WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment, providing an enhanced quality of service in four primary areas: dynamic operations, extended manageability, high performance computing, and business grid.
WebSphere Extended Deployment represents on demand capabilities in an extended environment. Use WebSphere Extended Deployment to enhance operational efficiency by deploying dynamic operations, service high-volume transactional workloads with linear scalability and near 100% availability, or manage large scale, continuously available WebSphere Application Server environments.
WebSphere Extended Deployment introduces virtualization and automation. A virtualized infrastructure redefines the traditional concepts of Java 2 Platform, Enterprise Edition (J2EE) resources and applications, and their relationships with each other. This new infrastructure facilitates the product's ability to automate operations, thereby simplifying complex configurations.
WebSphere Extended Deployment is not functional without the Network Deployment installation. During installation, WebSphere Extended Deployment automatically determines the WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment installation and extends the functionality of Network Deployment to embrace the themes and added function of WebSphere Extended Deployment.
