Developing long-running applications

Long-running applications are J2EE applications that do not fit well in the traditional J2EE request/response processing model. WebSphere Extended Deployment provides a programming model and runtime support with which you can host these applications in your environment.

About this task

WebSphere Extended Deployment supports two styles of long-running application: compute-intensive and transactional batch applications. Each type of application has a distinct programming model, but both share a common infrastructure for submitting and managing work.

Procedure

To develop long-running application, learn about:
  1. The compute-intensive programming model .
  2. The batch programming model .
