Preparing your environment to support autonomic management

For WebSphere Extended Deployment to manage your environment according to your defined business goals, you must configure dynamic operations.

Before you begin

Consider topologies for your WebSphere Extended Deployment cell. For more information, see Topology design . Install WebSphere Extended Deployment on the nodes in your topology. See Installing and configuring the product for more information.

About this task

Configure your Extended Deployment environment to support the functions of dynamic operations. Use dynamic operations to monitor the application server environment and make optimizations or recommendations that are based on the observed data. Dynamic operations provide the following benefits:
  • Continuous availability of applications through the virtualization of resources
  • Dynamic placement of applications
  • Prioritization and flow control of work to the applications
  • Integrating with overall dynamic operations infrastructure management
