Saving the current trace to a file

You may want to save your trace to a file in order to analyze it at a later date, or on another machine (with the same operating system). The Save As action does not simply take a snapshot of the current screen. All events recorded in the current session (both before and after the Save As action) are saved to the file you specify.

Important: The file is saved to the machine where the OLT server is running. This may be a different machine than the machine running the OLT viewer.

To save the current trace to a file, follow these steps:

  1. Select File > Save OLT File as. A dialog box opens.
  2. Type a name for the new file.
  3. Select the file format from the File Filter pulldown. The trace file can be stored as XML or the Object Level Trace EDB format.
  4. Click OK. The file is saved when you close OLT.

OLT files can be saved to any directory on the workstation where the OLT server is running. If you do not specify a fully qualified path for the file, OLT will look in the default directory for storing file.

The default directory for storing trace files is the directory defined by the %DER_DRIVER_PATH%\temp environment variable on Windows NT/2000, or /tmp on AIX.

To change the directory to which files are saved, follow these steps:

  1. Select File > Preferences. A settings window opens.
  2. From the tree view, select OLT.
  3. Enter a new path in the OLT read/Save file path field.
  4. Click OK. This change takes effect the next time you open the OLT server.
