This article directs you to information especially for users of IBM WebSphere Application Server for AIX.
See the WebSphere Application Server Supported Hardware, Software, and APIs Web site at www.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/doc/latest/prereq.html for the specific operating system versions supported by this version of IBM WebSphere Application Server.
You can install WebSphere Application Server by using either the Custom Installation option or the Typical Installation option. The Custom Installation option allows you to choose among various supported Web servers and databases and configure WebSphere Application Server specifically for those choices. The Typical Installation option automatically installs and configures the IBM HTTP Server and WebSphere Application Server. (You will need to install a database separately before you install WebSphere Application server by using this option, however.)
The steps describe installation that uses a graphical user interface. WebSphere Application Server also offers silent installation. See the article Selecting steps for silent installation for more information.
