The trend towards multi-tiered, distributed solutions has increased the demand for stable, long-running server processes that are able to interact with a large number of client applications. Because OLT can collect information indefinitely, it is a good choice for analyzing, debugging, and testing long-running server applications. You may find it useful to restrict the amount of trace information that OLT collects for two reasons:
For these reasons, OLT enables you (by way of a circular event log) to maintain only the most recent trace information collected from a long-running process. The log used to store event and trace information can grow to a maximum size (in events) as determined by you. Upon collecting information beyond this capacity, the earliest event information is deleted from the log and replaced by incoming events
The circular log feature is disabled by default. That is, OLT will collect event information indefinitely. To impose a maximum event file size, select File > Preferences > OLT. Click the check box beside Activate circular event log, and specify a maximum number of most recent events to save (the default is 100,000). This option is available only when OLT is in online mode.
