WebSphere MQ messages

This topic describes general points you need to know about messages received from or sent to a WebSphere MQ network through the WebSphere MQ link.

To receive a message from WebSphere MQ, the sender must address the message to your chosen destination on a service integration bus. This may be a reply to a message you originally sent to WebSphere MQ.

When a JMS application receives a message from a destination, the message is received with a header field, properties and contents. See Mapping of messages flowing through the WebSphere MQ link.

If a message received from WebSphere MQ contains a forward routing path in the MQRFH2 header, for use by WebSphere Application Server service integration, you can attach a mediation to the appropriate destination to examine and act on its content. To read about mediations to operate on the message header, see Working with the message header.

The same is true for a reverse routing path. The ReplyToQ and ReplyToQMGR fields in the embedded message descriptor of the MQXQH transmission queue header, represent a destination that is the first destination in the reverse routing path.
