Navigating in the information center

The information center provides a graphical user interface for browsing product documentation.

Displaying topics you see in the table of contents

The left Navigation view () displays the titles of the topics in the documentation. The titles are displayed in a table of contents or navigation tree structure. Select the topic titles in the navigation tree to display the topic content in the right pane.

Filtering contents in the Navigation view according to some criteria

You can use a filter to display only the topics you want to see in the Navigation view.
  1. Click the Filter off (Filter off) icon. The Information Filter window opens.
  2. Select the filtering options that you want to display, and clear the filter options that you do not want to display.
  3. Click OK. The Navigation view refreshes. Topics are displayed based on the filter options you selected. The Filter icon is highlighted to remind you that filter conditions are set.
You can view each topic in the navigation view by canceling the filter.
  1. Click the Filter on (Filter on) icon. The Set Filter window opens.
  2. Click Reset.
  3. Click OK. The Navigation View refreshes and displays each topic that is available in the Navigation view. The Filter icon is no longer highlighted.
The filters do not apply to the Search Results view.

Browsing the history of viewed topics

Use the Back () and Forward () buttons to navigate within the history of viewed topics.

Returning to the table of contents after searching

To return to the table of contents after running a search, click the Contents tab () at the end of the view.

Finding the location of search results in the table of contents

When you follow a link within a topic in the right pane, the navigation tree does not automatically change to display and highlight the new topic. To see where the new topic fits in the navigation tree and synchronize the two views, click the Refresh button () or the Show in Table of Contents button (). The topic title for the currently displayed topic is highlighted in the navigation tree.

Maximizing and restoring the left and right panes

By default you see a right pane that contains the topic of interest and a left pane that contains the navigation or search results.

For the right pane, complete the following actions:
  • Click the Maximize (Maximize) icon, which precedes the right pane, to maximize the right pane and hide the left pane.
  • Click the Restore (Restore) icon to return to the default view with the left pane and the right pane.
For the left pane, complete the following actions:
  • Click the Maximize (Maximize) icon, which precedes the left pane, to maximize the left pane and hide the right pane.
  • Click Restore (Restore) to return to the default view with the left pane and the right pane.
