Using the Log Analyzer

Use the Log Analyzer to view the service or activity.log for troubleshooting or tuning purposes.

Before you begin

Read the topic Log Analyzer for more information on how the Log Analyzer can help with problem determination.

About this task

View the service or activity.log using the Log Analyzer to help determine where problems or tuning issues are occurring in your application serving environment.

Procedure

  1. Change the directory to app_server_root/bin.
  2. Run the waslogbr script file. This file is named:
    • waslogbr.bat
    • [AIX HP-UX Solaris] [Linux] waslogbr
Run the script from the app_server_root/bin directory. This starts the Log Analyzer interface.
  3. Select File -> Open.
  4. Navigate to the directory containing the service or activity log file.
  5. Select the service or activity log file and click Open.
  6. To analyze the records, right-click a record in the tree on the left, select UnitOfWorkView, and select Analyze. Now any records with a green check mark next to them match a record in the symptom database. When you select a check-marked record, you see an explanation of the problem in the lower-right-hand pane.
Note: When starting the Log Analyzer for the first time, or after the Log Analyzer preferences files of the users are deleted, the following message is displayed in the shell window of Log Analyzer:
Cannot open input stream for waslogbrsys

You can disregard this message, because it is informational and not indicative of abnormal operation.

WebSphere Application Server includes the following Log Analyzer files for use with the WebSphere Commerce Suite:

    You can ignore these files.
