Installing Java Web Start

This topic provides the steps necessary to install JWS on the AIX platform.

Before you begin

Important: This topic applies only to the AIX platform.
Before you begin this task, see the following topics to understand Java Web Start (JWS) technology and its components:
Note: You can use Java Web Start on Java 2 Standard Edition Developer Kits that IBM provides, packaged in the Application Client for WebSphere Application Server, Version 6.1; Java Web Start on Sun Microsystems J2SE Software Development Kit or J2SE Java Runtime Environment 5.0, which you can download from the Sun Microsystems Web site for Windows, Linux and Solaris operating systems, or the Java Web Start on HP SDK or RTE for Java 2 version 5.0, which you can download from the HP Web site.

About this task

Use the following steps to install JWS on the AIX platform.

Procedure

  1. Install IBM Application Client for WebSphere Application Server.
  2. Change your directory to the client_install_root/java/jre/lib/javaws path.
  3. Run the updateSetting.sh script from the path mentioned in the previous step..
  4. Change your path to the JWS installed path. For example, enter: client_install_root/java/jre/javaws/.
  5. Run ./javaws from the path mentioned in the previous step.
