Administering topic space root roles

Use this task to administer authorization permissions for the topic space root.

Why and when to perform this task

These tasks allow you to control which users and groups belong to the following roles for a topic space root.

These tasks apply to the topic space root, which is the top-level topic within a topic space. They do not apply to the topic space itself, which is a destination not a topic.

The permissions on the topic space root are, by default, inherited by all the topics within the topic space. You can, if required, block the inheritance at any topic in the hierarchy. As well as having permission to access the topics, a user must also have permission to access the topic space itself, by being assigned to the corresponding role on the topic space.

Important: Users must be authorized to access both the topic space that contains the topics they require, and also the specific topics in this topic space. For further information on administering topic permissions, see Administering topic roles.
