WebSphere Application Server - Express, Version 6.0.x     Operating Systems: AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Solaris, Windows

Developing your own monitoring applications

Before you begin

You can use the Performance Monitoring Infrastructure (PMI) interfaces to develop your own applications to collect and display performance information.
There are three such interfaces - a Java Management Extension (JMX)-based interface, a PMI client interface, and a servlet interface. All three interfaces return the same underlying data. The JMX interface is accessible through the WebSphere Admin client as described in Using the JMX interface to develop your own monitoring application. The PMI client interface is a Java interface that works with Version 3.5.5 and above. The servlet interface is perhaps the simplest, requiring minimal programming, as the output is XML.
Note: The PMI client interface is deprecated in V6.0. The JMX interface is the recommended way to collect PMI data.
