[Version 5.0.2 and later]Installing WebSphere Application Server products

This topic introduces the context of installing and customizing IBM WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V5.x and IBM WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation for z/OS V5.x, including the tasks you need to perform before and after. IBM WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V5.x is provided in both U.S. English and Japanese.

Before you begin

To create a complete, customized WebSphere Application Server for z/OS installation, you need to prepare the operating system and subsystems, configure native products (for example, WLM, RACF and TCP/IP), physically load the product code through SMP/E, run the Customization Dialog, follow the customized instructions and run the jobs (including the Installation Verification Test) from the Dialog, and bring up your server.

Perform the following tasks to create a running version of the product on your machine.

Steps for this task

  1. Prepare for WebSphere Application Server for z/OS installation and customization, as described in Planning to install and customize WebSphere Application Server for z/OS.
    You must prepare z/OS subsystems and do other tasks, such as determine important information about WebSphere Application Server for z/OS and z/OS subsystems, before you start installation and customization.
  2. Install WebSphere Application Server for z/OS, as described in Installing WebSphere Application Server for z/OS.
    You must first load the WebSphere Application Server for z/OS code onto your system, using SMP/E install, before you make it usable through customization.
  3. Customize WebSphere Application Server for z/OS, as described in Setting up a base Application Server cell.
    Once you have the WebSphere Application Server for z/OS code installed on your system, you are ready to make it your own by customizing it.
  4. Perform WebSphere Application Server for z/OS post-installation tasks, as described in Performing WebSphere Application Server for z/OS post-installation tasks.
    Once you have WebSphere Application Server for z/OS customized and running smoothly on your system, there are many post-installation tests and modifications you can perform.
  5. Tune for performance.
