Information about users and groups reside in a user registry. In WebSphere Application Server, a user registry authenticates a user and retrieves information about users and groups to perform security-related functions, including authentication and authorization.
Before you begin: Before configuring the user registry you need to know the user name (ID) and password to be used, and you must decide which registry to use (Custom, LDAP, or local OS such as SAF-based).
What you need to know: You need to start the Administrative Console by specifying: http://server_hostname:9090/admin
Though different types of registries are supported, only a single active user registry can be configured at once. All the processes in WebSphere Application Server can use one active registry. Configuring the correct registry is a prerequiste to assigning users and groups to roles for applications.
By default, when no registry is configured the
Local OS SAF-based registry is used (PQ81586). So if your choice of registry
is not Local OS you need to first configure the registry, which is normally
done as part of enabling global security, restart the servers, and then assign
users and groups to roles for all your applications.
