Use this page to define the name and value of a WebSphere Application Server substitution variable.
To view this administrative console page, click Environment > Manage WebSphere Variables > WebSphere_variable_name.

WebSphere variables are used for:
WebSphere Application Server substitutes the symbolic name wherever its value appears in the system.
For example, "JAVA_HOME" is the symbolic name representing the file system path to the installation directory for the Java Virtual Machine (JVM). For example, the value is /opt/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/java for the WebSphere Application Server product on a z/OS machine.
You can create new variables for use in WebSphere Application Server components that support the use of variables.
The WebSphere Application Server security component supports variables when establishing global security, but only the following:

For example, the value might be the absolute file path, /opt/WebSphere/DeploymentManager/config in the z/OS WebSphere Application Server for z/OS product. The corresponding symbolic name might be "CONFIG_ROOT."
