Error description
An HTTP HEAD request results in a response with a Content-Length
header of 0 even when a body exists and it should be a positive
value.
This conflicts with RFC 2626 which states:
"The Content-Length entity-header field indicates the size of
the entity-body, in decimal number of OCTETs, sent to the
recipient or, in the case of the HEAD method, the size of the
entity-body that would have been sent had the request been a
GET."

* USERS AFFECTED: All users of WebSphere Application Server *
* V6.1 for z/OS *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A HEAD request sent to the server *
* receives a response that has an *
* incorrect Content-Length of zero. It *
* should have been a positive length. *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION: *
****************************************************************
In the controller region, there is running a WebRouter Proxy
install that forwards traffic to the WebContainer in the servant
regions. The response to a HEAD request contains no body and
the HTTP channel in the WebRouter code is mistakenly resetting
the Content-Length header to zero when it sees no body existing.
Problem conclusion
The HTTP channel code has been corrected to not try and "fix"
the Content-Length based on what is being sent, when it is a
response to a HEAD message. This is not a problem on the Web-
Container side becauses servlets always generate the full body
and try to send it out, thus the Content-Length is correct.
APAR PK48697 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
Level (Fix Pack) 6.1.0.11 of WebSphere Application Server V6.1
for z/OS.
