![]() APAR status Closed as program error. Error description A Vitria client running on a Windows 2000 workstation receives SYSTEM_EXCEPTION IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE with minor code -910028471 when interoperating with EJBs running on WebSphere for z/OS version 5.0. The minor code displayed in the client log is a decimal representation of minor code C9C21149. This minor code was sent by the WebSphere for z/OS appserver controller region on an _is_a request from the client to the z/OS server. The controller region trace contains error message BBOO0118E Function gethostbyname() for hostname ........... failed with RV=0, RC=1, RSN=00000000, [EDC5001I A domain error occurred. (errno2=0x0594003D) The hostname ........... contains garbage characters that, when viewed in hex, represent the workstation IP address in dotted decimal form encoded in ASCII. This gethostbyname() failure causes message BBOO0044E Internal communications error: REASON=C9C20C30 to be issued which is converted to a CORBA::COMM_FAILURE with minor code C9C21149 which is the error returned to the client.Local fix Problem summary **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of WebSphere Application Server * * V5.0 for z/OS * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: IDL:omg.org/CORBA/COMM_FAILURE with * * little endian client sending an * * OTS TransactionCoordinator IOR in * * service context. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** Reading an OTS transaction or recovery coordinator IOR marshalled by a little endian client incorrectly attributed the EBCDIC code set to the marshalled IOR contents. When locating the object described by the IOR, the invalid EBCDIC codeset attribution leads to a mistranslated hostname, which subsequently fails in gethostbyname(): BBOO0118E Function gethostbyname() for hostname ........... failed with RV=0, RC=1, RSN=00000000, EDC5001I A domain error occurred. (errno2=0x0594003D) The hostname ........... contains garbage characters that, when viewed in hex, represent the workstation IP address in dotted decimal form encoded in ASCII. This gethostbyname() failure causes message BBOO0044E Internal communications error: REASON=C9C20C30 to be issued which is converted to a CORBA::COMM_FAILURE with minor code C9C21149 which is the error returned to the client.Problem conclusion IORs used in OTS Service Context are demarshalled with the correct codeset.
