Federation replaces virtualhosts.xml file in the base edition of WebSphere Application Server
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
The virtualhosts.xml file is not updated during federation.

Cause
The virtualhosts.xml file in the base edition of Application Server is replaced by the deployment manager's virtualhosts.xml file when the Application Server is federated. Any updates to the virtualhosts.xml file are lost during the federation.

This replacement is done on purpose as there are conflict issues that must be avoided. Consequently, there is no attempt to merge the contents of the two virtualhosts.xml files.

Resolving the problem
Updates to the virtualhosts.xml file in base Application Server should be manually added into the deployment manager's virtualhosts.xml file before federation.
