The issue addressed by this fix is the lack of even distribution of stateful sessions across all available servants due to the fact that, at the time the sessions are established, the system workload is low and thus the "first available" servant (as determined by WLM to direct work) is repeatedly the same servant. While system workload remains low, stateful sessions accumulate in the same "first available" servant. When workload increases, the established stateful sessions force all work to be directed to the same servant (that contains all the sessions) while all the other servants maintain low workloads, or are simply idle waiting for non-stateful work. (MD19757) The comm_outbound_locate method creates a detailed trace that includes a uuid from the object key found in the IOR. The object key in an initial lookup IOR does not have a uuid. The uuid is treated as a string. When comm_outbound_locate copies what it thinks is a uuid it copies until a null is encountered. The amount copied ends up being larger than was allocated for the target. CEE3701W Heap damage found by HEAPCHK run-time option. CEE3707I Left pointer is bad in the free tree at 2BF70CC8 in the heap segment beginning at 2BF14000. 2BF70CA8: 8194857E 8296A2A2 F0F1F0F6 4B979385 A7F14B93 F24B8982 944B8396 94409796 2BF70CC8: 99A37EF9 F8F1F200 00000080 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 CEE3707I Right pointer is bad in the free tree at 2BF70CC8 in the heap segment beginning at 2BF14000. 2BF70CA8: 8194857E 8296A2A2 F0F1F0F6 4B979385 A7F14B93 F24B8982 944B8396 94409796 2BF70CC8: 99A37EF9 F8F1F200 00000080 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 CEE3702S Program terminating due to heap damage.Problem conclusion APAR PQ87841 fixes various defects in WebSphere Application Server V5.0 for z/OS. (LIDB3082.1) This support allows the WebSphere administrator to select a WLM distribution scheme for the placement of stateful sessions. The default scheme is FIRST AVAILABLE distribution, in which a newly established stateful session is placed in the first available servant. When workloads are low, this scheme could possibly result in a disproportionate number of stateful sessions being established in one particular servant rather than evenly distributed across all available servants. The alternative WLM distribution scheme is ROUND ROBIN, in which stateful sessions are evenly established across all available servants in a round robin distribution pattern, regardless of system workload. Please note: Support provided by feature LIDB3082.1 delivered in APAR PQ87841 requires support provided by z/OS Work Load Manager (WLM) APAR OA04699 to be made functional. The support provided in APAR PQ87841 has been coded in such a manner that if the OA04699 support is not present on a system running with Service Level W401611 (Service Level W401611 delivers APAR PQ87841) then the support provided in APAR PQ87841 will not be active. There exists no SMP/E apply dependency on the z/OS Work Load Manager support provided by APAR OA04699, it is a functional runtime issue. Feature LIDB3082.1 delivered in APAR PQ87841 requires the following change to the InfoCenter. To access the latest online documentation, go to the product library page at: www.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/zos_os390/library/ The change involves adding two new files to the InfoCenter: "Configuring an Application Server to use the WLM even distribution of HTTP requests function" (trun_wlmsessionplacement.html) and "WLM even distribution of HTTP requests" (crun_wlm_sessionplacement.html) In addition, the following description of the new WebSphere variable has been added to the article "Cell-wide z/OS variables:" wlm_stateful_session_placement_on Set this value to 1 to enable HTTP requests to be distributed across servant regions without servant region affinity. See "Configuring an Application Server to use the WLM even distribution of HTTP requests function" for more information. (MD19757) Changed comm_outbound_locate method to not look for a uuid in a initial lookup IOR. APAR PQ87841 is associated with SERVICE LEVEL W502007 of WebSphere Application Server V5.0 for z/OS.Temporary fix Comments
