Error description
zOS WebSphere ships a TPV client that can be downloaded to
a workstation and installed. The TPV executeable is tperfviewer.
The customer runs this from his workstation trying to connect
using an RMI port and the client hangs. No error messages.
This fails with Security enabled or disabled. Note that the SOAP
port connects successfully.
ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS:
- At times when recreating this problem I would see...
javax.naming.ServiceUnavailableException: A communication
failure occurred while attempting to obtain an initial context
with the provider URL:
"corbaloc:iiop:9.57.4.217:2809/WsnAdminNameService". Make sure
that any bootstrap address information in the URL is correct and
that the target name server is running. A bootstrap address
with no port specification defaults to port 2809. Possible
causes other than an incorrect bootstrap address or unavailable
name server include the network environment and workstation
network configuration. Root exception is
org.omg.CORBA.OBJ_ADAPTER: ORB_CONNECT_ERROR (5) - couldn't get
Server Subcontract:CREATE_LISTENER_FAILED_4 minor code:
4942FB8F completed: No
DOC Requirement:
The TPV tool is documented in our InfoCenter at...

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wasinfo/topic/com.ibm.w
ebsphere.zseries.doc/info/zseries/ae/tprf_prfcntrstart.html
On this page there are a couple of errors:
1) STEP 1.a says:
"This file can be found in (assuming recommended install
    directory): /usr/lpp/zWebSphere/V5R0M0/bin/setup.exe "
This is a false statement, the exe is acutally at
   "/usr/lpp/zWebSphere/V5R0M0/lib/setup.exe"
2) STEP 2.b says:
Click Start > Programs > IBM WebSphere > Application Server
v.50 > Tivoli Performance Viewer.
This is incorrect, it should read:
Click Start > Programs > IBM WebSphere > IBM Websphere Client
Development Kit > Tivoli Performance Viewer.
Local fix
use the SOAP connection

****************************************************************
The following exception is thrown by the Tivoli Performance
Viewer (Shipped with the Client Development Kit) when trying
to connect to a WebSphere AppServer using RMI with
Security Enabled:

javax.naming.ServiceUnavailableException: A communication
failure occurred while attempting to obtain an initial
context with the provider URL:
"corbaloc:iiop:9.57.4.217:2809/WsnAdminNameService"
Problem conclusion
The sas.client.props file,tx.jar, txPrivate.jar, and some key
ORB-related libraries shipped with the java runtime packaged
in the Client Development Kit were missing from the
Client Development Kit thereby not allowing RMI to connect
properly.
