PQ92496: SMF 120.3 RECORD BYTES TRANSFERED FIELDS ARE TOO SMALL

APAR status
Closed as fixed if next.

Error description
the SMF type 120 record, subtype 1 - Server interval record
contain 6 fields for bytes transferred to and from the server:
SM120BTS, -BFS, -BTL, -BFL, -BTR, and SM120BFR which are all
long. We have evidence that more than 2 Gbytes of data can be
transferred in a 2-minute interval which makes these fields wrap
or produce negative numbers when viewed through the SMF summary
browser/viewer. What follows is sample output.
# Bytes transferred
      ToServer: 47070784; FromServer: -2130224078;
      LocalToServer: 0; LocalFromServer: 0;
      RemoteToServer: 47070784; RemoteFromServer: -2130224078;

* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WebSphere Application Server for z/OS *
*                      SMF type 120 subtype 1 records (server  *
* interval) contains several counter *
* fields such as SM120BTS which can wrap *
*                      in a reasonably sized interval.         *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
****************************************************************
For the counter fields which can reasonably wrap, new, larger,
fields need to be defined in a new version of the SMF type 120
subtype 1 record such that the values cannot wrap in a
reasonably sized interval.
