Error description
Customer was running Websphere V5.0 in a Network Deployment
configuration using mbean discovery (did not have PSP bucket
apars to support multicast discovery).
Initial symptoms were that the status of applications did not
show as started or stopped. The status of other things were
also not shown.
.
Enabling the following SM traces in the Node Agent
com.ibm.ws.management.*=all=enabled
com.ibm.websphere.management.*=all=enabled
.
Showed the following:
BBON001 - http://localhost:2100/ failed to open socket:
Trace: 2004/06/21 15:09:28.745 01 t=9D0BF8 c=UNK key=P2

(errno2=0x76630291)

The customer had coded a hostname and port (2100) for the
Application Server SOAP_CONNECTOR_ADDRESS.
.
The Node Agent used the hostname of "localhost" instead
of the SOAP_CONNECTOR_ADDRESS hostname, and "localhost" was
not defined on the system.
Local fix
Configure localhost on the MVS System
.
Use multicast discovery instead of mbean discovery.
See PSP bucket for TCP/Java multicast apars. Applying the
necessary TCP/Java apars and configure a valid multicast address
.
Valid multicast ip addresses are in the range of:
Multicast group addresses are in the range of 224.0.0.0 through
239.255.255.255 which can be set in the admin console:
.
System Administration Node agents > NodeAgent Server > End
Points > NODE_MULTICAST_DISCOVERY_ADDRESS

* RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
****************************************************************
The discovery process uses "localhost"
instead of the configured SOAP connector host name to create a
SOAP connector client from the Node Agent to the Application
Server and vice versa. This fails if "localhost" is not
defined on the system.

Exception seen in Node Agent -
BBON001 - http://localhost:2100/ failed to open socket:
Trace: 2004/06/21 15:09:28.745 01 t=9D0BF8 c=UNK

Client;msg=Error opening socket: java.net.ConnectException:

Problem conclusion
The fix will cause the configured host name to be used during
Admin Client creation in the discovery process.
