Error description When running WebSphere in the configuration recommended by the WebSphere documentation, users may experience errors when ARM restarts WebSphere address spaces in a 'non-shared HFS' mode. The error will be: Message IEE132I START COMMAND DEVICE ALLOCATION ERROR In addition there will be documentation updates to the WebSphere manuals, to describe the proper configuration, and corrections to some inconsistencies in the current documentationwith regard to WebSphere configuration.Local fix Problem summary **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of WebSphere Application Server * * V5.0 for z/OS * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Message IEE1321I is seen when ARM start * * a server on an alternate system during * * restart and recovery. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** ARM starts the server on an alternate system using the same start command that was used to start it on its home system. The start command contains the path to the was.env used by that server. The alternate server did not have the necessary information to locate that was.env file. In addition, the documentation did not state a recommended configuration for using peer restart and recovery. An incorrect configuration greatly increases the chances of seeing this condition.Problem conclusion Code was added to allow the server to read the configuration of other servers when starting out of place. As a result of APAR PQ76910 a new document, "WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V5.0: Peer Restart and Recovery Enhancements (PTF UQ79825, Service Level W500104)" has been added as a Techdoc under Product Information on the product support page at URL: www.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/zos_os390/support/ This document describes enhancements to the peer restart and recovery support provided for WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V5 in Service Level W500104.
