![]() APAR status Closed as program error. Error description During normal operation of the WebSphere Server, the user may see message 'BBOO0040E' in the output of the WebSphere Control Region. If this message is preceeded by a trace entry that indicates a 'SSL Return Code: 437' then the BBOO0040E message can be ignored. The SSL return code 437 is issued as a 'normal return code' when a SSL V3.0 or TLS V1.0 close notify alert message is received, the gsk_secure_socket_read() with return a 'GSK_ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSED(437)' indicating that all data has been sent by the partner application and no more data will be sent over the connection. .Local fix If the BBOO0040E message is preceeded by a SSL Return Code: 437 then the BBOO0040E message can be safely ignored, as in the following example: Trace: 2004/09/12 19:01:16.134 01 t=BCBE88 c=A6.2 key=S2 (0E01D00F) Description: Failure Exit from -> SecurityManager::secureSocketRead Socket Handle: 1111456304 SSL Return Code: 437 Trace: 2004/09/12 19:01:16.135 01 t=BCBE88 c=A6.2 key=S2 (0000000A) Description: Log Boss/390 Error from filename: ./bbochsss.cpp at line: 1593 error message: BBOO0040E Function read() failed with RV=-1, RC=129, RSN=053B006)Problem summary **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of WebSphere Application Server * * V5.0 for z/OS * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Unnecessary BBOO0040E ErrorLog messages * * and associated trace entries for SSL * * socket read failures. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** "BBOO0040E Function read() failed ..." error messages and related exception traces are being issued for SSL socket read failures for HTTPS connections.Problem conclusion HTTP SSL clients can terminate connections prematurely, so socket reads/writes should not be considered an error. The error messages and exception trace entries will be removed. APAR PQ94263 is associated with SERVICE LEVEL W502017 of WebSphere Application Server V5.0 for z/OS.Temporary fix Comments
