An EFAULT (errno=118) occurs when calling the bpx1env service due to invalid parameters. The bpx1env service is used by the WebSphere Daemon to register itself with Unix System Service Recycle. (MD19266) A program using the gets method of the pmiClient API in recursive mode successfully collects metrics for non-J2C module metrics whether or not J2C related applications are configured on WebSphere Application Server V5.0 for z/OS. When J2C module is added to the list of desired PMI modules and WebSphere Application Server V5.0 for z/OS does not have any J2C related applications, all module subcollections returned by the pmiClient API are null. This problem will surface when WebSphere Application Server V5.0 for z/OS does not have any J2C related applications, a pmiClient API is requesting data in recursive mode and the PMI client requests a number of modules from PMI with one of them being J2C module. (MD19326) MBeans that return PMI Stats metrics, namely DynaCache, JVM, EJB, ORB, Servlet, and ThreadPool, all contain an internal PMI Stats read-only attribute called "stats" and contain a "getStats" operation that can be called by any MBean client. When "stats" attribute is accessed or "getStats" operation is invoked on these MBeans with PMI disabled on the server, it returns a javax.management.RuntimeMBeanException with a nested NullPointerException during result aggregation processing in the controller.Problem conclusion APAR PQ85048 fixes various defects in WebSphere Application Server V5.0 for z/OS. (MD19226) Corrected the parameter usage of bpx1env, relieving the EFAULT error. (MD19266) Each stats metric needs to be checked individually for validity. Otherwise, one empty/null module metric would cause other modules' metrics to be corrupt if a PMI client pulls each module's metrics individually. (MD19326) This "stats" attribute or "getStats" operation should only be used by an internal runtime components when PMI is enabled on the server, however because they are publicly available through MBean descriptors any MBean client that can introspect the MBean's API is free to access them regardless of whether the PMI is enabled on the server or not. Therefore, "stats" attribute and "getStats" operation access have been modified to return a null when PMI is disabled on the server. APAR PQ85048 is associated with SERVICE LEVEL W502003 of WebSphere Application Server V5.0 for z/OS.Temporary fix Comments
