APAR status
Closed as program error.

Error description
64 bit daemon, dmgr, nodeagent and two application servers
(bbos001, bbos002).

Stopped app. server bbos002. Got 0C4 symptom dump from bbos002.
This also caused bbon001 to terminate with T dump and SVC dump
(TCP/IP abend). Then stopped bbos001. Got 0C4 symptom dump.

Later stopped all WAS processes. Then restarted bbon001.
After bbon001 came up, both bbos001 and bbos002 started
automatically.

It is not necessary that 0C4 symptom dump will occur from each
app. server. Sometimes it occurs only from one of them.
The app. server which causes the 0C4 error, starts
automatically on starting bbon001.

In a 64-bit WebSphere Application Server for zOS running a heavy
transaction workload, with DB2, informix, and an XA resource,
intermittent EC6 abends might occur in server shutdown. The
server can be stopped but it can bring down the node agent and
stopping subsequent servers likewise fail with an 0C4. The
servers come down but not very well and they each create SVC
dumps. The node agent can be restarted without problem but in
general the shutdown creates dumps.

The EC6 abend is rooted in an incorrect interface in glue module
bbgqloca.cpp. It sets the high order bit in parameter #3 before
calling the PL/X code and then if data is passed back it uses
that address for the return data. The code did not first strip
off the high order bit.
Problem conclusion
Glue module bbgqloca.cpp was updated to reset the high order
bit in the third entry in the parameter list. that high order
bit is significant in 64-bit mode and therefore creates an
improper address when the code tries to use that field as a
legitimate pointer.

APAR PK38885 is currently targeted for inclusion in Service
Level (Fix Pack) 6.1.0.8 of WebSphere Application Server V6.1
for z/OS.
