Postinstaller.sh behavior when applying PTFs
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
Application of IBM® WebSphere® Application Server maintenance causes long start times on initial start.

Resolving the problem
When applying maintenance to Application Server V5.0 for z/OS®, you might experience substantial delays when initially starting the Application Server after the apply is complete.

This can be caused by the function postinstaller, which has replaced some of the ++HOLD data requirements regarding, in part, a reinstallation requirement for the administrative console that runs in Application Server. Instead of having to run BBOWIAPP to reinstall the administrative console as part of the ++HOLD data, this has been automated in postinstaller. This slow initialization can be compounded when multiple PTFs are applied at once. For example, if 3 PTFs are applied at once, and each (internally) required a reinstallation of the administrative console.

Three separate installations take place.
