Time out or hang condition when searching a Windows Domain User Registry

Problem(Abstract)
When IBM® WebSphere® Application Server global security is enabled with a Windows® Domain as the user registry, login fails due to a hang condition, loop condition, or time out messages in the logs. This occurs when the Windows Domain user registry contains a large number (thousands) of users.

Login when the Windows Domain user registry contains smaller numbers of users may be successful (but not necessarily).
 
Cause
The Windows service "Computer Browser" was not running.
 
Resolving the problem
Start the Windows service titled "Computer Browser" in the Windows services panel.
You can further investigate if there is a problem with your Windows Domain or network by visiting the Microsoft help guides on their website.
