Problem(Abstract) |
The Migration wizard for IBM® WebSphere® Application
Server Version 6.0 or higher might incorrectly determine that a Version
5.0 or higher node is still federated even though the node was removed
from the cell before the migration began.
If you federated a base node into a Version 5.1 cell and later you
unfederated the node with the removeNode command, for example, the Version
6.0 or higer Migration wizard might identify the node as federated even
though the node is now a standalone application server node.
The migration would fail with a node-name mismatch error such as the
following:
*****************************************************
The node name for the previous version is piaix2.
The node name for the V6 managed node is piaix2Node01.
The node names do not match.
To migrate a node to a V6 managed node, change
the node name of the Version 6 managed node
to match the value from the previous installation.

Cause |
The Version 6.0.x Migration wizard looks in the
install_root/properties/version directory of the Version 5.x
installation and finds both a BASE.product file and an
ND.product file.
The presence of the ND.product file in the installation root
caused by federating and unfederating the node causes the Migration wizard
to incorrectly identify the node as a federated node.
A federated node must use the same node name as the Version 6.0.x
standalone application server profile. Because the node name of an
unfederated Version 5.x application server does not have to match the node
name of a standalone application server profile during migration, this
error should not occur in this situation.

Resolving the
problem |
To perform the migration without generating the error,
take one of the following actions:
- Use the Version 6.0.x WASPreUpgrade and WASPostUpgrade
command-line migration tools to perform the migration.
- Use the Migration wizard to migrate a Version 5.1.1 or
later node to Version 6.0 or higher
Version 5.1.1 fixes the problem with the extraneous file. With a
Version 5.1.1 or later cell, the
install_root/properties/version/ND.product file is deleted when a
node is unfederated.
- Use the Migration wizard to migrate a Version 5.1 or
earlier node to Version 6.0. or higher
For these earlier releases, delete the
install_root/properties/version/ND.product file or rename the
file so that the file name does not include the "ND.product" string before
starting the Migration wizard.
