****************************************************************
This fixes a deadlock between two components in the WebSphere
Application Server (Data Replication Service and the
underlying message transport).
The problem was visible when the customer was trying
to shut down the WebSphere Application Server. The
Application Server never stopped.
Details...
At the time the Application Server was stopped,
a transport connection was lost immediately after a
Data Replication Service message was received,
and the Data Replication Service message required a
response. However, that response could never be sent because
the connection was blocked in the transport. As a result, the
thread upon which the receive message was being processed
never returned, and the transport code never completed closing
the connection.
The fix was to process the response upon another thread in the
Data Replication Service, which immediately allows the
received-message thread to return to the transport.
Problem conclusion
The fix for this problem is expected to be made available in
WebSphere Application Server 5.0.2 Cumulative Fix 5.
