When attempting to apply a Fix to a plugin-only WebSphere 5.0 installation, the Update Installer will not be able to determine that the plugin installation is a valid WebSphere installation. The message that appears says: "Specify a valid product installation directory". The Update Installer needs the /properties/version/dtd/applied.dtd file in order to proceed with the installation of a Fix. On a plugin-onlyProblem conclusion The Update Installer was modified so that it would install the applied.dtd file on a plugin-only WebSphere installation if one was not found in the /properties/version/dtd directory. Here are the instructions to download the new Update Installer from the external site: Go to the following URL: http://www-4.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/support.html 1. In the Software Downloads section, click on the link that reads: "All Fixes, FixPaks, and Tools" . 2. On the search page, refine your search: In the "Limit by type" drop down box, select: "-Tools/Utilities" In the "Limit by version" drop down box, select: "5.0" Click the "Submit" button. . 3. The search results page should have a link to the Update Installer. The link should be: "UpdateInstaller for WebSphere Application Server 5.0" Click on this link, then choose your platform and download the tool. NOTE: This problem was originally tracked under APAR PQ72012, which did NOT solve the problem.Temporary fix Comments
