Problems with installation and starting service for IBM HTTP Server on Windows NT systems participating in DOMAIN security
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
When some systems participate in a DOMAIN, various failures might occur when installing or starting services.

Resolving the problem

SYMPTOMS:
When installing IBM® HTTP Server on a Windows® NT Server that participates in a DOMAIN, various failures might occur during installation.
  • Service cannot be started.
  • Unable to install HTTP as a service.

SOLUTION:
  1. Uninstall IBM HTTP Server from the current user ID.
  2. Create a LOCAL user ID that is in the LOCAL Administrators group.
  3. Install from new LOCAL user ID.

This insures that if this system is cut off from the PDC and BDCs that it can still start. Otherwise, the service will fail to start because the ID cannot be authenticated.
