Access intent support in WebSphere® Application Server V5.0
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
Do all editions of WebSphere Application Server V5.0 include access intent support?

Resolving the problem
Using access intent, you can specify enterprise bean persistence requirements. It is implemented as a set of declarative annotations, which are used by the EJB(TM) container and persistence manager to optimize performance for entity bean access.
WebSphere Application Server Enterprise Edition V5.0 has support for application profiling, which provides additional features to that provided by the access intent support in WebSphere Application Server V5.0. Through the use of application profiling, it is possible for the WebSphere Application Server Enterprise run time to distinguish the identity of different requests, and provide the appropriate optimization for the access intent of each request.

The following editions of V5.0 support access intent:
  • WebSphere Application Server
  • WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment
  • WebSphere Application Server Enterprise

WebSphere Application Server Express edition, which does not support enterprise beans, does not support access intent either.
