Error description
Update Installer only checks for 260MB of free space in /tmp and
$WAS_HOME. Fix Pack 2 needs 450MB of space.
The Fix Pack install may fail if there is not enough space in
/tmp to extract the update.jar files.
Sometimes it fails with an error stating there is not enough
space other times, some components of the Fix Pack is corrupt.
Local fix
Increase the amount of space in /tmp and $WAS_HOME to greater
than 450MB.
OR - Edit the Update Installer to use a different temporary
directory. Technote #1116718
Problem summary
****************************************************************
* USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere Application Server users who wish *
* to use the Update Installer for versions *
* 5.0.1, 5.0.2 (along with cumulative fixpacks *
* up to 4 - WAS 5.0.2.4) and 5.1.0.1. *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When the system has temp and WebSphere *
* Application Server install root on the *
* same partition, the message for *
* required space can be confusing. The *
* message asks for 260MB of space on the *
* temp directory, however the space *
* required is 260MB * 2 = 520MB. *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION: *
****************************************************************
The Update Installer was updated to check for 400MB in both
temp and install location. This equates to 800 MB on the
same partition.
Problem conclusion
Due to increase in fixpack size, this space requirement has
been increased to 400MB for both temp and WAS install location.
The total (if temp and install root are on the same
partition) can be 800 MB. The infocenter will be updated to
better explain disk space requirements on the same partition.
