Distributed activities in a business process
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
In a business process, can the various activities be distributed?

Resolving the problem
In a business process the different activities can be distributed with the implementation existing on different systems and even different architectures. The interface for a particular activity is the most important part of the activity. As long as the interface, service, and binding information is correct in the Web Services Description Language (WSDL) files, and Web Services Invocation Framework (WSIF) can call the described service over the correct protocol, the activities can be distributed.
For most non-interruptible business processes, the implementation should be local as non-interruptible business processes are meant to be fast and executed under one transaction. Enterprise JavaBeans™ (EJB™) components on a remote system can be used, as they will be executed under the transaction as well.
