UseSession option on Proxy or ProxyWAS directive
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
The UseSession option on the Proxy or ProxyWAS directive was introduced in Edge Component V5.0.2 for Caching Proxy. This technote contains information and examples on how to use the UseSession option in the Proxy or ProxyWAS mapping directive.

Resolving the problem
Introduced in Edge Component V5.0.2 for Caching Proxy, the UseSession option can be specified on the Proxy or ProxyWAS directive.
Sometimes servers expect that the requests for a page are transmitted on the same TCP channel from the proxy, providing these requests are submitted to the proxy on the same TCP channel. The UseSession option helps to maintain a persistent channel on the server side if the requests from a client are forwarded to the same server and from the same client-side TCP channel.

The UseSession option overrides the directive ServerConnPool, which allows requests from different clients to share a persistent connection to the back-end server.

Following is an example of the UseSession option on the Proxy directive.
Proxy /abc/* http://server1/default/abc/* :80 UseSession
Description: The Proxy rules pass requests (templates) to another server (target).
If the incoming client request comes from port 80 and if the URL on the client request matches the pattern /abc/*, the URL is mapped to http:// server1/default/abc/* .

For more information on mapping rules, refer to section "Define mapping rules" in the Caching Proxy Administration Guide.
