Microsoft Security Advisory (912945) may affect applications deployed on WebSphere Application Server
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
Microsort® Security Advisory (912945) Non-Security Update for Internet Explorer may affect IBM® WebSphere® Application Server. This technote applies to clients running Java™ applets in a Sun JVM using ActiveX controls.

Resolving the problem
As described in the Microsoft TechNet article, Microsoft Security Advisory (912945): Non-Security Update for Internet Explorer, a security advisory is being "distributed to customers in phases" to address minor changes in how Internet Explorer "handles some Web pages that use ActiveX controls."

These changes were introduced with a Microsoft non-security update released 28 February 2006. Updates to address these changes are being released in a phased approach by Microsoft.

Java applets running in a Sun JVM with ActiveX controls may be affected. User actions in these elements do not work until the elements are "enabled" by an extra keystroke.

Impact is limited to text that is displayed when a pointer is moved over an ActiveX object. The problem is limited to short-lived hover text. This problem is easily missed or not understood.

Workaround
Change any APPLET, EMBED, or OBJECT elements used to load interactive web page controls. Refer to the MSDN article: Activating ActiveX controls for more information, including instructions on how to load ActiveX controls so their interfaces are activated.

Microsoft Compatibility Patch
A Compatibility Patch released by Microsoft 11 April 2006 temporarily returns Internet Explorer to previous functionality and will function until Internet Explorer is updated as part of the "June update cycle," when these changes will become permanent.

Impact on WebSphere Application Server
There is no known impact on the WebSphere Application Server application.
