Problem(Abstract)
On Red Hat Enterprise Linux® Server 4, the Japanese Input method might look like it malfunctions on wizards.

Cause
On Linux operating systems, the Shift+Space ordinarily works as a switch to toggle between SBCS character entry and DBCS character entry, also known as the DBCS Input Method.

In the IBM® WebSphere® installation wizard or any other WebSphere Application Server wizard,
sometimes Shift+Space seems to malfunction and only SBCS character entry is possible.

Resolving the problem
Perform the following workaround:
  1. Click the Input Language icon on the top panel of the desktop; this icon is located to the left of the exclamation icon. In the Japanese locale, ordinarily Ja is displayed there.
  2. Select Japanese from the menu.
  3. Go back to the wizard and check if Shift+Space now works as a language switch.
  4. If the problem persists after repeating steps 1 through 3, exit the wizard and retry.
