Enabling File Transfer Service for deployment of remote applications
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
When trying to install an application using the server path and not the local path, the following error message displays:

"WebSphere® FileTransferClient MBean not found. Node agent may not be running."

Cause
File Transfer Service is disabled.
In the Admin Console, Applications -> Install New Applications screen, you can choose to install an application using the local file system or a remote file system. You would use the remote file system if the application.ear file you want to install resides on any of the nodes in your cell.

The File Transfer Service is the service that transfers files between the deployment manager and the individual remote nodes. Therefore, this service must be enabled to install an application using the server path or you will get the error message above.

Resolving the problem
Enabling the File Transfer Service:
To enable the File Transfer Service in the AdminConsole, browse to System Administration -> Node Agents -> <nodeagent_server_name> -> File Transfer Service. Check the checkbox Startup (or Enable service at server startup).

Note: this is enabled by default.
