Manually installing a GSKit interim fix on Windows platforms
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
An IBM® Global Security Kit (GSKit) interim fix is usually installed by running a script supplied with the interim fix. However, you might want to install GSKit manually.

Resolving the problem
Here are the steps to manually install a GSKit interim fix on Windows® platforms using GSKit 7.0 as an example. Prior to installation, check the GSKit version on the Windows box. The GSKit version can be found in the Registry under:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\GSK7\CurrentVersion

  1. Download the interim fix and save it in C:\temp.

  2. Unzip the interim fix to expose gsk7bas.exe.

  3. In a command prompt window, cd to C:\temp, and type this command to extract the GSKit images:

    gsk7bas C:\temp  /Q  /D

  4. In the same command prompt window, type this command to install GSKit:

    setup.exe

    or

    setup.exe  gsk7bas  -s  -f1 setup.iss

  5. Check the GSKit version again to verify that the new GSKit installed properly.

A recently released GSKit cumulative fix includes fixes for the following APARs:
  • For GSKit 7.0: PK02947
  • For GSKit 5.0: PK02944
