Error description
When running IIS 6.0x with Windows Integrated enabled, client
browsers will experience repeated 401 authentication prompts
when the WebSphere HTTP plugin ISAPI extension marks the
backend appserver down. The desired result under this
condition is a 500 response instead of a 401.
Local fix Problem summary
****************************************************************
* USERS AFFECTED: Users of WebSphere Application Server *
* plug-ins for Microsoft Internet Information *
* Server (IIS) Web server. *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: An incomplete response caused the *
* client to resend the request. *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION: *
****************************************************************
When WebSphere application server was down, and the plug-in
could not send a reuqest through, the plug-in set the response
code to 500. However, the plug-in did not send the response
back to the client. This would cause the connection between
the client and IIS to get reset and make the client (like
Microsoft Internet Explorer browser) resend the request.
Problem conclusion
When application server is down, before returning to the server,
the plug-in will send a properly formatted response to the
client through either the WriteClient function or
ServerSupportFunction.
This fix is targeted to be available in 5.02.14, 5.1.1.8 and
6.0.2.3.
