Node agent and server must be restarted after adding JDBC resource in WebSphere Application Server ND 5.0.0 and 5.0.1
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
Do the node agent and server have to be restarted after adding JDBC™ resource in WebSphere® Application Server ND 5.0.0 and 5.0.1?

Resolving the problem
The node agent and server must be restarted after adding a JDBC resource.
The text in the administrative console states that the server and node agent might need to restart to pick up changes; however, a restart is necessary for the dmgr or node agent on which the JDBC resource and data source was created to acquire new or updated JAAS authentication alias entries and environment variables.

Also, when you restart, the JDBC driver class is loaded into the node agent classpath. The Test Connection button does not work without a node agent restart.
