Two servers with identical names in a horizontal cluster
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
It is legal to have two application servers with the same name in a horizontally-distributed cluster, as long as they are on different nodes; however, you might receive an error when you attempt to add the second server to the cluster.

Cause
This error is caused by the method by which the IBM® WebSphere® Application Server Administrative Console uses sessions to keep track of the configuration.

Resolving the problem
You can create a cluster containing two servers with the same name as long as they are on different nodes; however, if you receive an error message while trying to do this, use the following instructions to create a new session.
  1. Add a server to a cluster.
  2. Save the configuration.
  3. Log off the Administrative Console.
  4. Go back into the cluster configuration and add the second server, using the same name.
  5. Save the configuration.
  6. Log off the Administrative Console.
