Unable to access remote EJB from WebSphere V5 test environment in WebSphere Studio Application Developer V5
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
An enterprise application running in the WebSphere® Application Server V5 test environment (WTE) within WebSphere Studio Application Developer V5 is unable to do a JNDI lookup of an Enterprise JavaBean (EJB) running in a remote application server. Also, an attempt to run the dumpNameSpace tool from the WTE system to connect to the remote system fails. The following error might be seen on the client side:

org.omg.CORBA.TRANSIENT: connect (code=10051):host=hostname.ibm.com,port=2809 minor code: 4942F302 completed: No
at com.ibm.CORBA.transport.TransportConnectionBase.connect(TransportConnectionBase.java:469)
at com.ibm.ws.orbimpl.transport.WSTransport.getConnection(Unknown Source)
at com.ibm.CORBA.transport.TransportBase.getConnection(TransportBase.java:158)
...

Cause
The WTE is not configured to do remote JNDI lookups by default. The Object Request Broker (ORB) bootstrap settings must be changed.

Resolving the problem
  1. Open the Server Configuration editor in WebSphere Studio Application Developer.
  2. Select the Ports tab.
  3. Locate the ORB bootstrap settings and change the Host name from localhost (the default) to the fully qualified host name or IP address of the system on which WebSphere Studio Application Developer is running.
  4. Save the changes and restart the test server.

Remote JNDI lookups will now be successful.
