Error description
The current trace status cannot be displayed on WAS Admin
Console when the Trace group/component name includes space.
When using trace group/components names with embedded blank
spaces, the trace function fails to function correctly when
changing trace levels through WAS Admin Console GUI.
If system admin selects "IBM HttpSession" group name and sets
trace level as "all enabled" through "Modify..." panel, the trac
group/component name gets corrupted to "IBMHttpSession" when set
in WAS JRAS so that trace level change in GUI effectively does
not take effect.
-
Next time you visit trace panel in GUI you will see
"IBMHttpSession=all=enabled" which is incorrect. It should be
"IBM HttpSession=all=enabled".
-
The scenario step-by-step;
1) Open Diagnostic Trace Service Screen
2) Click Modify button (occurs both configuration and runtime)
3) Other window is open, Trace Group Name List displayed
4) Click IBM HttpSession
5) Trace variation menu appears, select group name
6) The icon indicates trace level for that group is changed, an
"IBM HttpSession=all=enabled" text is displayed.
7) Click Apply, and Close
8) On Diagnostic Trace Service Screen,
"IBM HttpSession=all=enabled" is correctly displayed.
9) Click Modify button again.
10) "IBM HttpSession=all=enabled" is correctly displayed, but th
icon of this trace group is displayed as "no trace level"
11) Then, change trace level from group list display screen, and
Click Apply.
12) The text "IBM HttpSession=all=enabled" is changed to
"IBMHttpSession=all=enabled" (space deleted)
Trace groupname is changed unexpectedly, and tracing for "IBM
HttpSession" is no longer logged.
-
This problem exists for all trace options that contain a space
such as:
IBM HttpSession
WebSphere Cache
WebSphere Dynamic Cache
Websphere ClassLoader
Local fix
A work around would be to specify the option using a different
format. For "IBM HttpSession=all=enabled" to work around would
be com.ibm.ws.webcontainer.httpsession.*=all=enabled.

Problem definition : When using trace group/component names
with embedded blank spaces, the trace function fails to
function correctly when changing trace levels through
Application Server Administrative Console.
If system admin selects "IBM HttpSession" group name and sets
trace level as "all enabled" through "Modify..." panel, the
trace group/component name gets corrupted to "IBMHttpSession"
when set in WAS JRAS so that trace level change effectively
does not take effect. Next time you visit the trace panel in
you will see "IBMHttpSession=all=enabled" which is incorrect.
It should've been "IBM HttpSession=all=enabled".
Problem conclusion
The script file apptree_trac.js was modified to handle this
problem.
