Setting up a HotSpot server or client mode on a Java 2 SDK

Problem(Abstract)
Switching between HotSpot server and HotSpot client mode on Java™ 2 SDK.
 
Resolving the problem
For all releases of IBM® WebSphere® Application Server V4.0 - Application Server:
Start the Administrative Console.

  1. Select the Application Server and click the JVM™ Settings tab.

  2. In the System Properties section, click the Add tab. For client mode type:

    Name: HotSpotOption
    Value: client

    Application Server V4.0 runs in HotSpot server mode by default.

  3. Click Apply.

  4. Restart the Application Server for the settings to take effect.

For all releases of WebSphere Application Server V4.0 - Administrative Server:
  1. From admin.config (Install_Root/bin).

  2. In a text editor, add -server to the Java Virtual Machine (JVM™) arguments at

    com.ibm.ejs.sm.util.process.Nanny.adminServerJvmArgs  

    The default mode for the administrative server is -client.

  3. Save your file and restart the Administrative Server for the settings to take effect.

For all releases of WebSphere Application Server V5.0 - Application Server:
  1. Select Application Servers > name_of_appserver> Process Definition.

  2. Select Java Virtual Machine under Additional Properties.

  3. In the Generic JVM arguments textbox, for server mode, type -server.

    The default mode for the application servers is -client.

  4. Click Apply.

  5. Restart the Application Server for the settings to take effect.
