"WSWS3161E No service has been defined" error on application client after applying cumulative fix 3 to WebSphere Application Server V5.0.2
 Technote (FAQ)

Problem
Cumulative fix 3 is a required upgrade for WebSphere® Application Server V5.0.2. However, if this cumulative fix is applied to the Application Server, with an Application Client remaining at V5.0.2, the client is unable to communicate with the server and a WSWS316E error is produced.

Cause
Code from the upgrade to cumulative fix 3 prohibits the application on the client from communicating with the Application Server. Due to the number of fixes included in this cumulative fix , it is difficult to determine the exact change that causes this breakdown.

At this time there is no plan to issue a cumulative fix 3 for the Application Client and there is no tentative release date for Fix Pack 3 for the Application Client.

Solution

The exception is :

The only solution available at this time is to copy the webservices.jar from the V5.0.2.3 Application Server install_root /lib directory to the to the Application Client install_root /lib directory.
