Caching Proxy fails to start on Linux when using an expired SSL certificate, but no error message is displayed to indicate that it has expired
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
If the certificate for the proxy has expired, Caching Proxy is unable to start properly. Caching Proxy appears to start, but the process quickly disappears.

On platforms other than Linux®, an error message displays when the key database has expired.

Cause
On Red Hat Enterprise Linux, a certain level of GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) packages is required for Caching Proxy to log that the key database has expired.

Resolving the problem
Update the SSL certificate of the system.
To prevent this problem on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0 systems, ensure that the GCC packages are at the following levels or higher:
  • libstdc++-3.2.3-52
  • libgcc-3.2.3-52
