J2EE 1.3 and JMS
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
Do J2EE™ 1.3 specifications mandate that a JMS™ product be included with WebSphere® Application Server v5?

Resolving the problem
It is mandatory for a J2EE 1.3 Server to include a JMS Provider.
The JMS implementation must provide support for both JMS point-to-point and publish/subscribe messaging, and therefore must make those facilities available using the ConnectionFactory and Destination APIs.

WebSphere Application Server v5 satisfies this requirement by including a WebSphere Embedded JMS Provider that can be installed with the WebSphere Application Server base product. This embedded JMS Provider is based on WebSphere MQ and supports both point-to-point and publish-subscribe messaging models.
