WebSphere Application Server Enterprise V5.0.2.6 configuration changes are not being reflected in the WebSphere Process Choreographer component
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
WebSphere® Studio Application Developer Integration Edition (WSADIE) users installing WebSphere Application Server Enterprise Edition V5.0.2.6 on Microsoft ® Windows® NT, 2000 or 2003 from the default installation path (C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere Studio\Application Developer IE\v5.1\runtimes\ee_v5) see a successful installation message but the following 2 configuration files are not executed correctly: bpeupgrade.jacl, processportal.jacl. These files belong to the Process Choreographer component.

Cause
Length limitation of the install path on Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows 2003.
Impact:
  • If WebSphere Process Choreographer (WPC) was not configured prior to installing V5.0.2.6, then there is no impact at all.
  • If the user had configured WPC in V5.0 and not yet successfully installed V5.0.1 or V5.0.2, then business processes using compensation will no longer work (see PQ70655 and PQ71037).
  • If the user had installed the FDMLTravelBooking sample before installing V5.0.2, then the sample will no longer start (due to more stringent deployment descriptor check in V5.0.2).
  • If the user had configured WPC using the admin console wizard (instead of the configuration scripts), the WPC Web client may no longer work due to changed EJB references.
  • If the user had configured WPC with an Oracle database before installing V5.0.2, then business processes using compensation will no longer work.

Resolving the problem
Under research.

Recommendation: WSADIE users who install WebSphere Application Server should use a short install path name.

Note: This problem is not seen on Windows XP.
