HTTPS calls produce a "Security Alert: invalid name on security certificate" pop-up message

Problem(Abstract)
When accessing a Web site with HTTP Secure Sockets Layer (HTTPS), a Security Alert box pops up with the message "The name on the security certificate is invalid or does not match the name of the site".
 
Cause
Using an IP address or machine shortname in the URL.

Resolving the problem
  1. Close the browser.
  2. Reopen the browser.
  3. Type in the URL using the Fully Qualified Domain Name of the server.

    For example,
    The following URLs will produce the alert:

    https://9.3.162.190/IBM/logon.html https://myMachine/IBM/logon.html

    An example of a URL using the fully qualified domain name:

    https://myMachine.ibm.com/IBM/logon.html
