Hard-coded install paths might prevent successful installation
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
Installation on Unix® systems requires sufficient free space on the filesystem and that the root user has write permission for the install directories. These directories are hard-coded in the installer and cannot be overridden.

Cause
The Unix installer does not provide the option to specify the target install directory for embedded messaging or GSKit. GSKit is installed as a prerequisite if IBM® HTTP Server is selected.

Resolving the problem
The list of the specific directories to account for are:
/opt/mqm       (/usr/mqm on AIX®)
/opt/wemps     (/usr/opt/wemps on AIX)
/var/mqm
/var/wemps
/opt/ibm/gsk*  (/usr/opt/ibm/gsk* on AIX)

Root must have write access to the /var , /usr, and /opt filesystems in order to populate the directories at install time. There must be sufficient free space in these filesystems. Specific space requirements for embedded messaging can be found at:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/ws51help/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.websphere.base.doc/info/aes/ae/tmj_instw.html

The space requirements for GSKit are approximately 25 MB.

If there is insufficient space in the default installation directories, an alternative is to create symbolic links from those specific directories into some other filesystem that does have enough space. For example, if you allocate a separate filesystem called /WebSphere, to contain the installation, you could create a symbolic link to the directories in this filesystem.

Below is an example of the command to create a symbolic link:

ln -s /opt/mqm /WebSphere/mqm
