Application does not get expanded into the installedApps directory after its successful deployment using console
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
When an enterprise application ".ear" or ".war" file is deployed from the administrative console, a message is displayed in the console indicating that the application deployed successfully. However, the application files are not expanded into Install_Root /installedApps directory. Consequently, application startup fails with the following exception :

Cause
The cause of the error is a mismatch between the list of applications in the application folder under config directory and the list of application entries in the serverindex.xml file .

Resolving the problem
Ensure that the user trying to deploy the application has sufficient permissions for the /installedApps directory.

  1. Ensure that the Distribute Application property is checked (checked by default) during the application deploy process.

  2. Look closely at the list of applications under the
install_root/config/cells/cell_name/applications directory. Each application should have an entry in the serverindex.xml file, located in the
install_root/config/.../nodes/node_name directory. If you see any applications listed in the applications folder that does not have a corresponding entry in the serverindex.xml file, take one of the following actions (in order of preference):
    • uninstall the application, using the administrative console, or
    • delete the application from the applications folder

  3. Delete the application name listed in the serverindex.xml, which is not available in the applications folder as shown in step 3, from the serverindex.xml file.

Applications that are listed in the applications folder must have an entry in the serverindex.xml file.
