WSVR0026I: Error occurred while validating product license

Problem(Abstract)
When trying to start IBM® WebSphere® Application Server or run the <path>/WebSphere/AppServer/bin/versionInfo script, an error occurs:

WSVR0026I: Error occurred while validating product license
 
Symptom
The Application Server fails to start or versionInfo script fails to run.
 
Cause
This can be caused by a missing or corrupt was.license file in the directory <path>/WebSphere/AppServer/properties. If running Network Deployment Edition, also check <path>/WebSphere/DeploymentManager/properties.
 
Resolving the problem
1. Replace the was.license file in the properties directory with a valid one from another system or from WebSphere/AppServer/bin/wsinstance/propdefaults if it exists.

2. For Base edition, restart the Application Server. For Network Deployment edition, restart the deployment manager and the Application Server.
