Content rule (pattern) syntax update
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
Appendix B of the Administration Guide refers to the syntax rules for using special characters. This syntax does not always work for Microsoft® Windows® operating systems.

Cause
You need to follow different syntax conventions depending upon the location from which you issue the command. In most cases, you can use one of the following options:
  • Issue the command from within the dscontrol shell. For example, enter dscontrol, press Enter and then enter the command, or issue the command through a configuration file.
  • Enter the command from the Windows command prompt. For example, enter:
    dscontrol rule add

Resolving the problem
This syntax is applicable for any rule add command whether you are using a cbrcontrol or dscontrol shell.
  • If you are entering the command from the dscontrol shell, cbrcontrol shell, or a configuration file, place quotation marks around the special characters, as shown in the Administration Guide.

The following example is for a configuration file:

cbrcontrol rule add 10.1.203.4:80:cbr_prod_rule_ek type content pattern "uri=/nipoek/*"
  • If you are entering the same the same command from a Windows prompt, you must surround the entire command with quotation marks instead of only the special characters. For example:

cbrcontrol "rule add 10.1.203.4:80:cbr_prod_rule_ek type content pattern uri=/nipoek/*"
