Error description
IHS 2.0.47 crashes. The problem is related to isues found with
mod_ibm_ssl which, in combination with mod_ext_filter on Unix,
could result in crashes in the filter process.
Local fix
N/A
Problem summary
Two problems are addressed in this APAR fix.
1) child process crash
mod_ibm_ssl logic to free GSKit memory was called in the
child process created by mod_ext_filter to run the filter
program (e.g., Perl script). This SSL logic caused the crash.
2) hang of filter processes
Pipes handles for filter processes were mismanaged under load,
leading to hangs of the filter processes. This could result in
a high number of processes in some circumstances and/or hung
requests.
Problem conclusion
The mod_ibm_ssl logic which led to the
crashes is unnecessary and will be removed. The child
process image is about to be replaced with the specified filter
program anyway.
The pipe handle mismanagement will be resolved by serializing
the creation of child processes.
