* unix Operating Systems and applications *
* containing Symbolic links *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Symbolic links as well as contents *
* they are pointing to are getting *
* deleted on an application reinstall *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION: *
****************************************************************
For an existing application create a symbolic link .
1) uninstall the application - symbolic link is retained
2) when the application is reinstalled following the same
directory structureas before not only is the symbolic link
deleted but also contents of the folder to which it is
pointing .
Problem conclusion
The fix provides retaining symbolic links during an application
uninstallation and reinstallation.
Note that, for an application containing symbolic links the
installed directory will not be completely removed because it
contains symbolic links which are to be retained.
During reinstallation of the application in the same path, the
symbolic links will be retained
Temporary fix
The problem could be reproduced on local environment and the
fix has been tested out . The changes are actually a back
