![]() APAR status Closed as fixed if next. Error description FixPack 1 for WebSphere Application Server V5 does not check to ensure that a compatible version of the Fix Installer is used to apply the fix. If an incompatible version of the Fix Installer is used, the install log files make no indication that the Fix Installer Version is the culprit. The Fix Installer developers are well aware of this issue and have already written an internal defect to address it. However, a customer has already encountered a problem related to this issue and became extremely irritated. This is a critical issue. See also internal defect number 157654Local fix FixPacks must check for compatible version of Fix Installer.Problem summary **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere Application Server customers who * * wish to install an interim fix between * * two fix packs. For example, customers who * * will be installing fixes between fix pack * * 2 and fix pack 3. * * * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: User's could not be sure that a * * certain version of UpdateInstaller * * can be used to apply a given fix. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** This APAR is being closed FIN with concurrence from the submitting customer. This means that a fix to this APAR is expected to be delivered from IBM in a release which is being developed at the time that the APAR was closed. The latest release of the product to exit development at the time this APAR was closed was: WebSphere Application Server 5.0.2 This fix adds in logic so that the fix pack installer now returns its version number in its Window title. User's should now be instructed to use the latest UpdateInstaller issued to apply fixes released between fix pack releases. That is, all fixes released between fix pack 2 and fix pack 3 should be applied with the UpdateInstaller that shows a version number of 5.0.2 in its title.Problem conclusion Temporary fix Comments
