* RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
****************************************************************
WebSphere handling of Welcome Files differs from the
reference implemenation Tomcat 4.0. When a Welcome File
request is made in Tomcat, the request is serviced via a
http refresh (sendRedirect) resulting in a separate request
being made to the welcome file. In WebSphere 5.0, the request
is handled via an internal request dispatcher request to the
welcome file page. This results in different behavior with
filters since filters are only executed on the requested URI
and not subsequent forwards or includes executed during the
service of a particular request.
Problem conclusion
Modified the handling of Welcome Files to behave as the
reference implementation (Tomcat 4.0) when users specify
an initialization parameter for the File Serving Servlet set
via the Application Assembly Tool (AAT).
To enable this property:
1) Open predeployed ear file inside of AAT.
2) Expand the EAR file.
3) Expand the list of web modules.
4) Expand Assembly Property Extensions.
5) Right mouse click on File Serving Attributes
6) Select new.
7) Add Name=redirectToWelcomeFile Value=true
8) Save and redeploy the ear file.
