WebSphere Application Server V5.0 Fix Pack 1 Install Failure: outdated updateInstaller
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
Installing WebSphere® Application Server V5.0 Fix Pack 1 gives WUPD0245E in the event.history file:

Update Failure: The processing of efix was50_fp1_aix, component prereq.gskit.ptf failed.

Cause
This problem occurs when a back-level, out-of-date version of the updateInstaller is used. It is strongly recommended that you apply a fix pack with the latest version of the updateInstaller available on the support site.

Resolving the problem
  1. Download the latest updateInstaller and extract it to a temporary directory. Alternatively, extract the updateInstaller into the same directory as the previous updateInstaller version, and overwrite the old updateInstaller files with the new ones.
  2. Uninstall the current fix pack using the latest version of the updateInstaller, which was downloaded in step 1.
  3. Apply the new fix pack.

New updateInstaller packages contain a file named version.properties that documents the version and build date of the package. If the updateInstaller package or fix pack package does not contain a version.properties file, it was built before 2004 and is outdated.
