Error description
The start up script generated with the command
startserver -script is not generating the EXPORT environment
variables correctly. They are missing the quotes (" ") around
the values that have spaces. This causes the variables to have
the wrong values. They are also being generated without the
Export LANG statement so the script is being executed in the
wrong language.
-
Here is an example of the situation:
1. Create a new environment variable for the server
from the admin console:
Application servers > servername > Process Definition >
Environment Entries > New
Name: MY_VARIABLE
Value: value one
2. Generate a new start server script for the server:
Startserver servername -script startservername.sh
3. The generated script startservername.sh will contain the
following statement:
export MY_VARIABLE=value one
This is incorrect. It should contain
export MY_VARIABLE="value one"
4. The script does not contain the statement
export LANG=xxxxx
but is should. For example, in Germany the statement
should be
export LANG=de_DE@euro
Local fix
Manually change the generated startserver script to put quotes
around the export variable statements and add in the correct
export LANG statement.

* USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere Application Server users of *
* version 5.x *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Problems with script generated by *
* startServer.sh <server_name> -script *
* option *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION: *
****************************************************************
Script generated by startServer.sh -script option does not add
double quotes around the environment variable values like
export ENV="value"
- Also the generated script does not work on Solaris since it
contains export ENV=value which does not work
- LANG environment variable which is missing in the script is
added
Problem conclusion
Code has modified to generate the script properly
