Enterprise applications fail to start after installing V5.0 Base product on a zSeries® Linux® partition
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
WebSphere® Application Server V5.0 appears to install successfully on a zSeries Linux partition; however, enterprise applications fail to start with the following error message in $WAS_HOME/logs/log.txt:

java.io.IOException: /opt/WebSphere/AppServer/java/bin/java: not found

Cause
Most of the files in the $WAS_HOME/java directory, including sub-directories, are installed as uppercase. As a result, enterprise applications cannot locate the java executable.
./AppServer/java/lib
./AppServer/java/BIN
./AppServer/java/BIN/JAVA

Resolving the problem
Two options are available to install an updated Developer Kit:
  • Install a newer Developer Kit, such as V1.3.1 SR6.
You must have a problem management record (PMR) opened to get an updated Developer Kit at this time. Use the IBM Problem Submission Tool to report your problem to IBM technical support.
