Accessing a name space binding created in the WebSphere Application Server V5 Administrative Console from an application
 Technote (FAQ)

Problem
Administrators can use the IBM® WebSphere® Application Server Version 5 Administrative Console to create name space bindings by selecting Environment > Naming > Name Space Bindings. However, it might not be obvious what JNDI name should be looked up in an application to access a binding that is configured here.

Solution
The JNDI name to be looked up depends on the scope in which the name space binding was created. In the examples below, assume that the name of the name space binding is binding, the node name is node1, and the application server name is server1.
  • If the name space binding is created at the cell scope, the application can access it by doing a JNDI lookup of cell/persistent/binding.

  • If the name space binding is created at the node scope, the application can access it by doing a JNDI lookup of cell/nodes/node1/persistent/binding.

  • If the name space binding is created at the server scope, the application can access it by doing a JNDI lookup of cell/nodes/node1/servers/server1/binding.

For an overview of how your application can perform a JNDI lookup, refer to Developing applications that use JNDI in the WebSphere Application Server information center.
