Using uninstall script and manually deleting the directories does not always remove WebSphere Application Server and IBM HTTP Server from the HP-UX registry
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
After uninstalling IBM WebSphere Application Server and IBM HTTP Server on HP-UX, reinstalling fails because the software was not removed from the registry during the uninstall.

Cause
Left over entries in the system registry prevent you from reinstalling the software.

Resolving the problem
When removing WebSphere Application Server or IBM HTTP Server from an HP-UX system using the uninstall script, the registry might not be cleared of the entries for these products.

After running the uninstall script, and deleting the WebSphere Application Server and IBM HTTP Server directories, you could have problems reinstalling these products. You can check the registry to see if the products are still listed in the registry:

  1. Log in as the root user.

  2. Enter the command swlist from the command line.
    • This will list the items in the registry.

    • If WebSphere Application Server or IBM HTTP Server is listed after running the uninstall script, you will need to manually remove the items from the registry.

  3. Enter the command swremove from the command line.
    1. You will be prompted to select the item or items for removal.

    2. Once selected, follow the rest of the prompts to remove.

    3. After completion, enter the command swlist to verify that the registry has been cleared of the undesired items.

  4. You should now be able to reinstall WebSphere Application Server and IBM HTTP Server.

Note: Make sure no java or httpd processes are running.
