Error description
The -verbose:gc parameter into Command line arguments of JVM on
WASv4.0 is changed to -verbose;gc in Windows, and to be joined
an additional colon ":" at the end of Generic JVM arguments in
AIX during migration from WASv4.0 to WASv5.0.
.
"-verbose:gc" will be changed to "-verbose;gc" in Windows.
"-verbose:gc -otherparam" will be to "-verbose:gc -otherparam:"
in AIX.
Local fix
Use "-verbosegc" or check "Enable garbage collection verbose
mode" on WASv4.0.
Problem summary
****************************************************************
* USERS AFFECTED: Users of WebSphere Application Server *
* that migrate from WebSphere v4.0.x *
* Advanced or Single Server to v5.x.x who *
* choose to add JVM arguments directly *
* into the additionCommandLineArguments *
* field in rather than using the checkbox. *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If a user enters arguments such as *
* -verbose:gc to the additionalCommand *
* LineArguments field of the JVM Settings *
* the settings will not be migrated *
* correctly. *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION: *
****************************************************************
After migration the user was not able to start the server
because the JVM was being sent corrupted arguments, which
was the result of not parsing the arguments correctly.
Problem conclusion
Code has been added to fix this problem. Fix should be
in the next service release.
