MIGR; Migrating to WebSphere V6.1 across machines fails with error MIGR0327E: A failure occurred with stopNode
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
Migrating IBM® WebSphere® Application Server V5.0 or V6.0.2 to Application Server V6.1 which is located on a different physical machine using the migration tools fails with the following exception:

MIGR0327E: A failure occurred with stopNode.
com.ibm.ws.migration.utility.UpgradeException:
MIGR0327E: A failure occurred with stopNode.

Cause
Application Server V6.1 migration tools will attempt to disable the Application Server instance that is being migrated. The location of the old instance is retrieved from the back-up directory created by the WASPreUpgrade script. If there is a Application Server instance installed on the system where Application Server V6.1 is installed with the same install path as the old Application Server instance, the migration tools will attempt to disable the instance which coexists with the Application Server V6.1 install.

Resolving the problem
When using the Application Server V6.1 migration tools to migrate an existing Application Server instance to Application Server V6.1 which is located on a different machine, it is better to treat the migration as though it was being performed on the same system. On the system where Application ServerApplication Server V6.1 is located, no Application Server instances can be installed with the same install path of the Application Server instance that is being migrated to Application Server V6.1.

Before continuing with the migration process, please review the following documentation:
