Login Window Loops and Reappears After Valid Credentials are Entered
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
When global security is enabled on WebSphere® Application Server V5 (all releases) the login challenge window may reappear even after valid credentials are entered, preventing you from logging on to the administrative console.

Cause
Symptoms of this behavior include the following:

Resolving the problem
The solutions for the potential causes listed above are:

1. User name contains special characters (V5.0.0 only) - use a different user name that contains only alphanumeric characters.

2. Not using fully qualified host name to access administrative console - change the URL to use the fully qualified host name.

For example: http://myhost.mydomain.com:9090/admin

3. Unresolvable host name - Check to see if the host is using DHCP. If it is, this problem can be resolved temporarily by including an entry for the host in the local hosts file. This file is located in etc/hosts on Unix systems and in \WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts on Windows systems. You can determine the IP address using the ping command from a command prompt on the local system. A permanent solution is to assign the host a static IP address and register with the network DNS.
