Problem(Abstract) |
Creating a server with Default application server
template fails with FileNotFoundException.
This technote explains which logs and temporary files can safely be
removed. |
|
|
|
Cause |
Files in Install_Root /config/templates must not be
removed. While creating the server or cluster member, the templates folder
in the config directory is used. If any files in the templates folder are
removed, server creation or cluster member creation with Default
application server template fail with FileNotFoundException.
The following exception is issued because the server.xml file under the
templates folder is removed.
[3/10/05 21:55:03:197 MST] 63424d3f ConfirmCreate E Failed to create
server: java.io.FileNotFoundException:

not exist.) |

Resolving the
problem |
- Use Existing application server as a template to create the
server successfully.
- If the backupconfig file is available, run the backupconfig tool.
- Take the copy of missing xml files from the
Install_Root /bin/wsinstance/configdefaults/templates folder, if
available.
Do not remove any files under the WebSphere® Application Server
Install_Root folder, unless recommended by IBM® support.
The following files can be removed with precautions.
- Log files
- Stop the server process before removing any files.
- Files in Install_Root /logs/servername can be removed.
- Files in Install_Root /logs/ffdc/ can be removed.
- Do not remove all the files in the install_Root /logs
folder. The logs folder also contains installation logs. Make a backup of
the required log files before you remove them.
- Temp files
- Files in Install_Root /temp can be removed. Restart the server
process after removal.
- Files in Install_Root /wstemp can be removed. Restart server
process after removal. The WebSphere Application Server administrative
console stores a preferences.xml file in Install_Root
/wstemp/<workspace_id>. This file contains user preferences on
administrative console layout and actions. It is created when you log on
to the administrative console. If you remove this file, you lose the user
preferences; however, the preferences can be created again the next time
you log on to the administrative console.
- Files in Install_Root /config/temp can be removed. Temp files
in the configuration folder might be used for file transfer or other
purposes. The files can be lost if they are removed during synchronization
or other operations. To avoid this, make sure you stop all the processes,
including DMGR, nodeagent, and servers, before you remove the config/temp
files.
