Error description
Webcontainer threads back up waiting to enter into ESI clear
cache which is a synchronized method and is pending a completion
of socketWrite0. The socketWrite0 cannot be completed because
the socket WebSphere and the plugin have been communicating
thorough has gone into a bad state. The communication from
WebSphere to the plugin resulted in a bad read at the plugin and
the socket was not torn down as expected. This allows for
WebSphere to continue trying to write to the socket and
ultimately causing a hang.
Local fix Problem summary
****************************************************************
* USERS AFFECTED: All IBM WebSphere Application Server users *
* using the plugin and Dynamic Cache. *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: WebSphere Application Server hang *
* during ESI clear cache call. *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION: *
****************************************************************
When the plugin ESI cache is cleared, the WebSphere Applicaton
Sserver would hang for the duration of the process. Partially
closed sockets were unable to communicate causing hangs during
processing.
Problem conclusion
All partially closed sockets, or sockets in error states, are
closed explicitly, preventing any attempt to communicate
through them.
The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion
in cumulative fix 5.1.1.15 and fixpacks 6.0.2.21 and 6.1.0.9.
