WebSphere Application Server V6 for z/OS Security Class (WSW06) Presentations
The attached compressed file contains the lectures (in Acrobat format) from the IBM WebSphere Application Server V6 for z/OS Security Workshop, class WSW06. The topics include an overview of WebSphere Application Server security, enabling global security, the RACF jobs, basic authentication, form based authentication, enhanced form based authentication, Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) and RunAs security and connector security.

WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V6 -- Understanding the HTTP Web Server Plugin
WebSphere Application Server for z/OS has had a "web server plugin" since the days of Version 4. With each new version there seems to be something new, something different, about the plugin and how it works. WebSphere Application Server V6 for z/OS is no different. V6 introduced the notion of configuring "web servers" to WebSphere Application Server and "mapping applications" to those web servers. There is talk of "managed nodes" and "unmanaged nodes." What does it all mean?

Building a Quick and Simple WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V6 Runtime Environment
For those not familiar with WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 5 or Version 6, building your first operational server runtime can be intimidating. Most documents dedicate themselves to going into lots of technical detail on various aspects of WebSphere Application Server. But if all you want to do is create a simple server environment, perhaps your very first such server environment, then what you want is a simple step-by-step process that is easy to follow and relatively foolproof.

WebSphere Application Server z/OS V6 -- WSC Sample Network Deployment Configuration
Like its predecessor WP100367 (for V5), this white paper documents the construction of an actual WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V6 Network Deployment configuration at the IBM Washington Systems Center. The cell, "WPCELL", consists of a Deployment Manager and two application server nodes, one on SYSC and one on SYSD. A "horizontal cluster" is built spanning the two nodes.

Problem Avoidance for WebSphere Application Server for z/OS
This Redpaper is intended for system programmers and administrators who need an efficient way to identify problems, analyze them, and fix them so that they can deliver good support for the WebSphere Application Server for z/OS environment. IBM support and technical professionals and Java™ developers who work in the WebSphere Application Server for z/OS environment are also part of this targeted audience.

WebSphere Application Server V6 Planning & Design Handbook Series
This IBM Redbooks® publication discusses the planning and design of industrial strength WebSphere Application Server V6 environments. The content of this Redbooks publication is oriented to IT architects and consultants who require assistance when planning and designing from small to large and complex implementations.

z/OS - Planning for Test, Production, and Maintenance
Whenever multiple WebSphere Application Server for z/OS environments are present, the need to isolate them from one another is also present. This is particularly true when the Application Server test environment needs to be completely isolated from the Application Server production environment. One activity that brings this issue to the forefront is maintenance. Here the desire is to isolate one Application Server cell from another and even isolate nodes within a cell from one another. The latter is necessary when "nondisruptive rolling maintenance" is the objective.

WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Implementation (Education fee class)
This is an advanced course for experienced z/OS system programmers who install and customize WebSphere Application Server V6, as well as Information Technology (IT) professionals who deploy EJB and Web applications into WebSphere Application Server V6 on z/OS.

WebSphere for z/OS V5.1 - Migrating configuration from V5.0 to V5.1 White Paper
Application Server for z/OS V5.1 requires that V5.0 configurations be migrated before they can be used. A set of utilities is supplied to perform that migration. Some work is required on your part prior to using the migration utilities. This document provides a concise, step-by-step explanation of the process of migrating your configuration from V5.0 to V5.1.

V7.0

Migrating to WebSphere Application Server z/OS V7
This document provides information and examples on migrating an environment up to Version 7. The process involves planning the migration, customizing the migration jobs using the MMT tool, and submitting the jobs to perform the migration.

V6.1

Using Multiple SSL Certificates with WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V6.1
WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V6.1 supports using multiple SSL Certificates in a key ring, but the approach to setting this up differs from WebSphere Application Server V5.1 and V6.0.2. In WebSphere Application Server V6.1, the approach is to use multiple SSL configurations, each with a different default certificate alias. This document provides detailed instructions.

WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V6 - Configuration Planning Spreadsheet
Anyone who has tried to configure a WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 6 runtime environment knows that one thing just can not be avoided -- the planning of short names, long names, JCL proc names, IDs, UIDs, GIDs, and ports.

WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V6.1 - New Things Encountered During Configuration
This relatively short paper points out some of things that will be different when you configure your first Application Server V6.1 cell. Much of the configuration process is very similar to that of V6.0, but a few things, a few key things, are different. The purpose of this paper is to alert you to some of them so your initial experience with configuring a WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V6.1 cell is a successful one.

Migrating to WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V6.1
WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 6.1 is the latest offering from IBM on the z/OS operating system. It has many new features and functions. This document covers what's involved with migrating an existing configuration to the V6.1 level. The process is in many ways very similar to how things were done migrating to V6.0. But there are differences, such as things like "script compatibility" and "application migration options." This document goes over the "big picture" of migration, covers the panel-by-panel specifics, and then offers an illustration of an actual migration as performed at the IBM Washington Systems Center.

JDBC™ Migration White Paper and Utility for DB2® on z/OS
WebSphere Application Server for z/OS version 6.1 will not support integration with the legacy DB2 JDBC Driver. This was accomplished in prior versions of WebSphere Application Server for z/OS using the DB2 for z/OS Local JDBC Provider (RRS). This techdoc and attached wsadmin Jython script will help users migrate their configuration to use the DB2 Universal JDBC Driver.

Tips on Installing and First Steps Configuration of WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V6
Having problems installing or configuring WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 6? Before you call IBM Software Support, read this white paper. It contains solutions to common installation and configuration problems. It is written by the WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Integration Test (WIT) team based on their experience installing and configuring WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 6 on a shared z/OS system that already had an SMP/E environment defined. This paper is the first in a series of technical papers to be published by the IBM WebSphere Integration & Test team.

Migrating from WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V5.0 (any release) to V6 - An Example Migration
With WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 6 on the shelves, the question of migrating a configuration from any release of V5.0 naturally comes to mind. This white paper will provide an illustration of an actual migration, step-by-step, so that you can see how it's accomplished and what some of the issues may be when you attempt it. This white paper does not try to be the definitive source for migration information; rather, it will be an example of one actual migration.

Heterogeneous cell support for z/OS
Ever thought about building a WebSphere Application Server cell with nodes running on different operating systems? It can be done. With WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Version 6, the ability to build what we call a "Heterogeneous Cell" (a cell with nodes on different operating systems) is possible. The basic stuff -- construction of nodes, federating the nodes -- is essentially the same. Things get interesting when unique names are being planned out. Things get even more interesting when "global security" is turned on. This document covers the essential issues and then documents an actual "heterogeneous cell" built at the Washington Systems Center.

Instructions for handling certain Out of Memory conditions which occur during migration of an earlier version of WebSphere Application Server to V5.1.1, V6.0.2, or V6.1
When running WASPreUpgrade or WASPostUpgrade, during the migration process from an earlier release of WebSphere Application Server to V5.1.1, V6.0.2, or V6.1, the heap might run out of memory for a complex environment. Either the execution of wsadmin to install the applications, or the migration of the configuration itself, throws java.lang.OutOfMemory errors.

WebSphere Application Server V6 federated node migration fails, WASPostMigration log reports MIGR0414E and V6 deployment manager SystemOut.log reports TCPC0004W
When performing a migration from a relatively large deployment manager node, the post-migration process might fail. The WASPostMigrate.log reports MIGR0414E, and the SystemOut.log for the Application Server V6 deployment manager reports TCPC0004W.
