Unable to access Deployment Manager administrative console after enabling global security

Problem(Abstract)
After enabling global security, the administrative console fails to start, and issues the following error:

unable to parse the admin.ear file.
 
Cause
The preferences.xml file might be corrupted. The preferences.xml file stores the administrative console preference settings.

Resolving the problem
Delete the file preferences.xml file. By default, this is located in the following directory:
$WAS_HOME/WebSphere/DeploymentManager/wstemp/

Then restart the Deployment Manager.

This forces the Deployment Manager to regenerate the user preferences at server startup.
