Internal IBM HTTP Server server works with Portal, but external server using port 80 fails
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
WebSphere® Portal Server 5.1 on SuSE Linux® is configured to use external IBM® HTTP Server using port 80. However, nothing is returned when trying to serve static pages out of the DOC Root. Accessing the portal application through the WebSphere Application Server internal HTTP server works as expected.

Cause
The HTTP server delivered with SuSE Linux was started, causing a port conflict.

Resolving the problem
Turn off the default HTTP server delivered with SuSE Linux server. IBM HTTP Server can then start successfully and handle Web requests on port 80.
