Local fix Problem summary
****************************************************************
* USERS AFFECTED: All users of WebSphere Application Server *
* using HTTP Session memory-to-memory *
* replication. *
* All users of WebSphere Application Server *
* using Dynamic Cache with push-pull sharing *
* policy. *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When starting Application Server with *
* many installed applications on each *
* Node (many apps in one JVM) for *
* either Dynamic Caching or Session *
* Management, startup may hang and report *
* an IndexOutOfBounds exception. *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION: *
****************************************************************
During startup of Application Server, the replication service
used by Session Management or Dynamic Cache initializes
its resources per instance. A race condition existed when
many (20+) instances were configured. Before the last couple
of instances initialized, the first couple of instances were
already using shared resources causing an IndexOutOfBounds
exception and creating the opportunity for a deadlock.
Problem conclusion
Unmodified references to shared resources were created and
additional checks were made to avoid the deadlock.
The fix for this problem was made available through i-fix
PQ88994 for all releases.
It should also be available in 5.0.2.7 and 5.1.0.5
Temporary fix
Starting fewer replication instances may alleviate this error
