Problem(Abstract) |
Migration of IBM® WebSphere® Application Server V5.0.2 to
V5.1 will show errors and may fail completely if the installed feature
sets for WebSphere Application Server do not match. |
|
|
|
Cause |
Migration from WebSphere Application Server V5.0.2 to
WebSphere Application Server V5.1 involves copying and moving the
configuration and applications from one version of WebSphere Application
Server to the newer version by using the migration scripts: WASPreUpgrade
and WASPostUpgrade. Migration overwrites the existing configuration with
the migrated configuration. If the WebSphere Application Server systems
being migrated do not have similar features installed, errors will occur
and the migration may fail. |

Resolving the
problem |
Migration of WebSphere Application Server should be
between like systems. Meaning if you have WebSphere Application Server
V5.0.2 embedded messaging installed, then the WebSphere Application Server
instance you are migrating to should have WebSphere Application Server
V5.1 embedded messaging installed. If you have WebSphere Application
Server V5.0.2 Enterprise Edition installed, then you should have WebSphere
Application Server V5.1 WebSphere Business Integration Server Foundation
installed. Update WebSphere Application Server V5.1 to the latest build
before running the migration scripts.
Review: IBM
- Recommended Updates for WebSphere Application Server Base and Network
Deployment editions to determine the latest updates available for
WebSphere Application Server V5.1.
WebSphere Application Server V5.1 migrations should be performed using
the WASPreUpgrade and WASPostUpgrade scripts instead of using the GUI
during installation.
Refer to the technote: IBM
- Manually migrating V5.0.2 releases of Network Deployment or Base Edition
to V5.1.0 releases. |
