IBM WebSphere Application Server and JFS2 in concurrent mode (CIO)
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
Problems starting IBM® WebSphere® Application Server when file system is mounted using JFS2 in concurrent mode (CIO)

Cause
The IBM WebSphere Application Server transaction service requires transaction recovery logs to be hosted on a file system that can enforce synchronous write through and write serialization. Some file
systems, such as AIX® JFS2, support an optional concurrent I/O (CIO) mode whereby the file system does not enforce serialization of write operations. This mode must not be used for the application server transaction recovery log files.

Resolving the problem
The recommendation is not to place transaction recovery log files on JFS2 file systems with CIO enabled.
