Installing WebSphere Application Server V5.0 or V6.0 on Linux can produce incorrect message

Problem(Abstract)
It is possible for the operating system level check to fail for Linux® when installing IBM® WebSphere® Application Server V5.0 or V6.0.
 
Cause
The installation procedure checks the file /etc/issue to do the operating system level check. If this file has been modified, this check may produce the following:
Operating System Level Check
A supported operating system was not detected. Installation may not be successful.
 
Resolving the problem
Do not modify the /etc/issue file until after installing WebSphere Application Server V5.0 or V6.0.

Note:

If this check fails due to /etc/issue file being changed, the installation will be successful and the message can be ignored.
