serverstatus WebSphere command line tool always shows server as stopped
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
WebSphere® command line tool serverstatus does not return correct status. The command always shows the server as stopped.

Symptom
serverStatus.sh shows the server status as stopped even though the server is running properly. Trace shows createAdminClient failed because of a java.lang.ClassNotFoundException. All other command line tools seem to work correctly.

Cause
The systems Classpath is too long and the serverstatus.sh tool includes the system classpath via $CLASSPATH on invocation of Java™.

Resolving the problem
Apply APAR PK08943 or delete $CLASSPATH from serverstatus.sh
