Global Security Kit plug-in installation on IBM HTTP Server and Web server requires write access
 Technote (FAQ)

Problem
The installation of IBM® HTTP Server and Web server plug-in will not complete successfully if the /usr directory is configured for read-only access. The installConfig.log file will note a failure in the GSKitIntall config action.

Cause
The IBM HTTP Server installation includes a Global Security Kit (GSKit) installation process that fails to create the necessary symlinks in the /usr directory if the /usr directory is configured for read-only access.

Solution
Make the /usr directory writable before installing the GSKit. If you choose not to install Secure Sockets Layer security, then you should specify the silent response file option to bypass the GSKit installation. To set the silent response option, start the installation with -OPT installGSKit="false" at the terminal window.
