Migrating to WebSphere Application Server Express Edition from Tomcat

Problem(Abstract)
This document explains why you might want to switch to WebSphere® Application Server Express Edition when you are currently using Tomcat as your Servlet and Java™ ServerPages (JSP) engine.
 
Resolving the problem
Consider switching for several reasons:
  • The WebSphere Studio Site Developer (WSSD) has tools, editors and wizards that make the development of Web applications far easier and more user-friendly. With Tomcat you have to develop content and code manually.
  • WSSD has built-in support for Tomcat, enabling you to develop and modify Web applications in WSSD and continue to run them on Tomcat.
  • With WebSphere Express Edition you have a clear migration path to other WebSphere products when you later decide your application needs more function, such as distributed server capabilities or Enterprise Java Bean (EJB) support
