Error description
When disk cache is cleared, dynacache thread creates 3.8mb
objects onto Java heap while re-initialzing files after
clearing. The Allocations are not pooled.
These large allocations can result in performance degradation
due to Java heap fragmentation and possibly outofmemory errors
due to heap fragmentation from these large objects.
Local fix Problem summary
****************************************************************
* USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere Application Server users of the *
* Disk Offload function. *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Further improve Dynamic cache disk *
* offload JVM memory utilization *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION: *
****************************************************************
When running Dynamic cache disk offload function, in some
paths it allocates large buffers from the JVM instead of getting
the buffers from the pool. This will cause memory
fragmentation when the allocation is running frequently.
Problem conclusion
Using the buffer pooling technique, improves the JVM
memory utilization.
The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion
in 5.02.12, 5.1.1.5 and 6.0.1.2.
