![]() APAR status Closed as program error. Error description Customer gets java.io.IOException: Negative seek offset at irregular intervals when shutting down application server after modifying the log file rotation from limiting file size to limiting by time.Local fix To work around, you may use log file rotation based on size not time.Problem summary **************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: WebSphere Application Server users accessing * * the admin console to change the default * * settings of log file Rotation from limiting * * file size to limiting time * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The customer changed the Log File * * Rotation option in Servers -> * * Application Servers -> server1 -> * * Logging and Tracing -> JVM Logs on * * the admin console. After that, during * * shutting down server1, an IOException * * is detected in the SystemErr.log. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** The IOException happens during file operations on a RandomAccessFile. The file write operation does na illegal access by pointing to a negative offsetProblem conclusion As part pof code fix, a check is done to see that the file pointer never goes negative. If a file seek pointer falls below zero, then it is resetTemporary fix Comments
