 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
IBM® WebSphere® Portal Server Version 5.0.2 includes Version 5.0.2 of WebSphere Application Server, as well as some WebSphere Application Server interim fixes that are prerequisites for Portal Server. When running Portal Server Version 5.0.2 with these included interim fixes, the following exception is thrown when calling the setString method to set parameters on a PreparedStatement:

at com.ibm.ws.rsadapter.jdbc.WSJdbcPreparedStatement.
setString(WSJdbcPreparedStatement.java:1296)

Cause
The problem is caused by a defect in one of the interim fixes for WebSphere Application Server that ships with Portal Server. The defect is in the WAS_Adapter_10-30-2003_5.0.2_cumulative_Fix.jar interim fix.

Resolving the problem
Install one of the following fixes:
  • Cumulative Fix 3 (5.0.2.3) or higher for WebSphere Application Server V5.0.2
  • The WAS_Adapter_12-17-2003_5.0.2_cumulative_Fix.jar, which is attached to this technote. This fix replaces the WAS_Adapter_10-30-2003_5.0.2_cumulative_Fix.jar that ships with Portal Server. It can be installed with the Update Installer, available in the following download:
