ConfigurationError prevents Deployment Manager from starting

Problem(Abstract)
Errors reading configuration files can prevent the Deployment Manager from starting with an error similar to the following:

[4/29/05 16:23:51:678 EDT] 56e1949c WsServer E WSVR0003E: Server dmgr failed to start
com.ibm.ws.exception.ConfigurationError: Exception encountered while extracting configuration information for the Name Space

Cause
This error can be the result of data in the serverindex.xml file that cannot be parsed. In this particular case the serverindex.xml file had extra entries at the end:
</serverindex:ServerIndex>

</specialEndpoints>
</serverEntries>
</serverindex:ServerIndex>
 
Resolving the problem
It is recommended that you not make any manual changes to the IBM® WebSphere® Application Server product files. However, in this case it is advised that you make a backup copy of the serverindex.xml file and then remove invalid entries or data from the serverindex.xml file and then restart the deployment manager.
