WebSphere® 5.0.x Embedded Messaging Broker hangs during server stop on Red Hat Linux®
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
When WebSphere Application Server V5.0.x is installed on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1, the WebSphere Embedded Messaging Publish & Subscribe (WEMPS) broker might hang when an attempt is made to stop the server.

Cause
This has been identified as a bug in the libstdc++ library that ships with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1. The Red Hat Issue Tracker Item Number is 23677.

Resolving the problem
When Red Hat Enterprise Linux 2.1 is installed out of the box (without installing any updates or maintenance), it includes version 2.96-108 of the libstdc++ library, so the problem can be avoided if no updates or maintenance are applied to Red Hat Linux.

The problem is fixed in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3.0. WebSphere Application Server does not support V3.0, so at this time the only solution is to use an older version of the libstdc++ library (2.96-110 or earlier).

Please contact Red Hat support for the more information about the bug.
