Retention strategy for IBM Support site content
 Flash (Alert)

Abstract
A wide range of documents are published on the IBM® WebSphere® Application Server Support site. These documents, including technotes, fixes, and closed APARs, are designed to help you solve problems and use the software more effectively.

Documents for releases that are no longer supported are moved to the information center.

Content
Information centers for out-of-service releases will remain available on http://www.ibm.com for XXX years after end of service. In an effort to simplify access to out service releases, while simplifying search for supported releases on the Support page.
Documents are created to help you find and download the packaged release contents. Example:

After end of service plus one year, all content specific to the release is packaged as an Eclipse help plug-in, then added to the information center for that release. The information centers are searched from the Support page, so the content is still accessible and searchable. Example:

Content moved includes:
  • Technotes,
  • Downloads,
  • APARs and
  • Other technical publications
Example:

Note: Fixes on the FTP server will remain in place.

Releases moved to the information center:
Release Information Center
WebSphere Application Server V3.5 Support plug-in for V3.5
WebSphere Application Server V4.0 Support plug-in for V4.0

IBM® Software Support Lifecycle is a consolidated list of end of service dates for IBM products.

WebSphere is standardizing end of availability for published content:
Outstanding issues:
  • Checking for broken links on Support page and Eclipse Help Support plug-in (Check with Ralph Evans)
  • Correcting for changed links in Eclipse Help Support plug-in (Check with Lee Bolin)
  • Standardize re-indexing of information center after plug-in added
  • Revise and review process documentation with ID (Chuck Doebler), the publish to either DCF Information Center or UT Information Center
  • Can ID-Support Information Council support deploying this process (Mary Maguire)
