Problem(Abstract) |
Aliasing the loopback adapter on AIX 5.x systems requires
a different
netmask than used with previous versions of AIX. |
|
|
|
Resolving the
problem |
With AIX 5.x, alias the loopback adapter (lo0) with a
netmask of 255.255.255.255 to avoid adding a route that is not valid. For
example:
ifconfig lo0 alias cluster_address netmask 255.255.255.255
If a route is added for network traffic (for example, 9.24.33/24) that
directs the traffic through the loopback adapter (lo0), delete it using
the following command:
route delete -net network_destination cluster_addr
Where network_destination is 9.24.33/24 in our example.
Using the -net parameter avoids having extra routes deleted.
NOTE: With AIX 4.3 and previous versions, when aliasing the
loopback adapter, use the netmask of the primary adapter. |
