Abstract
This tool repackages and installs Java™ SDK V1.3.1 and
Java SDK V1.4 builds that are NOT packaged as a WebSphere® Application
Server cumulative fix for SDK or WebSphere Application
Download Description
This tool applies to:
WebSphere Application Server V4.0.3 or higher. Versions 4.0, 4.0.1 and
4.0.2 are NOT compatible with Java SDK 1.3.1.
WebSphere Application Server V5.0 releases, WebSphere Application
Server V5.1 release and WebSphere Application Server V6.0 release Java SDK
daily or iFix builds which are not repackaged for Update Installer for
WebSphere Application Server.
Prerequisites
WebSphere Application Server 4.0.3 or higher, or
WebSphere Application Server V5 WebSphere Application Server V6
Java SDK daily build or Java SDK iFix build (Not packaged for
UpdateInstaller)
(NOTE: Java SDK daily builds are not available on website. They are
provided only by WebSphere Application Server Support
Installation Instructions
To start IBM SDK Installer, follow these steps:
Create a directory, for example:
/tmp/SDKInstaller or c:\temp\SDKInstaller
Unzip IBM SDK Installer into the directory, for example:
/tmp/SDKInstaller or c:\temp\SDKInstaller
3. Source the setupCmdLine.sh in the WebSphere Application Server bin
directory on UNIX®-based platforms so that the WebSphere environment
variables are set. For example, on UNIX-based platforms, run this command
to source the script to the parent shell to inherit the exported
variables:
# . <was_root>/bin/setupCmdLine.sh
(There is a space after the period.)
Run setupCmdLine.bat in WebSphere Application Server bin directory on
Windows platforms so that the WebSphere environment variables are set, for
example:
c:\websphere\appserver\bin\setupcmdline.bat
Run install.bat or install.sh in the directory for graphical user
interface(GUI) installer, or run install.bat / install.sh with
command-line arguments for the non-GUI installer, for example:
./install.sh or install.bat
How to upgrade WebSphere Application Server SDK with GUI installer
Stop all WebSphere Application Server processes, as well as related
component processes such as IBM HTTP Server and embedded messaging.
Run slibclean on AIX platform to remove any currently unused modules
in kernel and library memory.
Backup WebSphere Application Server.
Create a Java backup directory to save current SDK directory (For
example, /backup/java or c:\temp\java). Do not create the directory in
WebSphere Application Server directory.
Start IBM SDK Installer. Refer to "How to start IBM SDK
Installer."
Specify WebSphere Application Server Java SDK directory (by default,
/usr/WebSphere/AppServer/java or c:\websphere\appserver\java)
Specify the Java backup directory (from step 4). IBM SDK Installer
will copy current Java SDK into the Java backup directory. Note: Any
existing files in the backup directory will be overwritten.
Specify Java SDK update file. For example,
/sdk_builds/ca131-20040114-sdk.jar.
Click the Update button to update Java SDK.
How to upgrade WebSphere Application Server SDK with non-GUI
installer
Stop all WebSphere Application Server processes, as well as related
component processes such as IBM HTTP Server and embedded messaging, Run
slibclean on AIX platform to remove any currently unused modules in kernel
and library memory.
Backup WebSphere Application Server.
Create a Java backup directory to save current Java SDK directory. For
example, /backup/java or c:\temp\java)
Start IBM SDK Installer. Refer to "How to start IBM SDK Installer"
first.
On Windows platforms: install.bat JavaDirectory BackupJavaDirectory
JarFile
On UNIX platforms: ./install.sh JavaDirectory BackupJavaDirectory JarFile
JavaDirectory : java directory under WebSphere Application Server
BackupJavaDirectory: Backup Java directory for current Java SDK created in
step 3. IBM SDK Installer will copy current Java SDK into the backup
directory. Note: Any existing files in the backup directory will be
overwritten.
JarFile : Java SDK jar file: For example: ./install.sh
/opt/WebSphere/AppServer/java /backup/java
/tmp/13112-sdk.jar
How to restore WebSphere Application Server Java 2 SDK
Stop all WebSphere Application Server processes, as well as related
component processes such as IBM HTTP Server and embedded messaging. Run
slibclean on AIX platform to remove any currently unused modules in kernel
and library memory.
Backup WebSphere Application Server java directory. For example,
/usr/WebSphere/AppServer/java
Delete all directories and files in WebSphere Application Server java
directory.
Restore all the files and directories from your backup Java SDK
directory created during step 3 in "How to upgrade WebSphere Application
Server Java SDK" above, into WebSphere Application Server Java SDK
directory.
