Error description
"Use Meta Data from binaries" and Inconsistencies with
webconsole view
.
Expected behavior:
------------------
1).When "Use Meta Data from binaries" is ENABLED all the
console view MUST read the data from the application binaries
within the master config repository
.
${CONFIG_ROOT}/cells/cell_name/applications/application_EAR_name
/application_EAR_name.ear
.
2).When "Use Meta Data from binaries" is DISABLED (default) all
the console view MUST read the data from the expanded
application dir within the master config repository
.
${CONFIG_ROOT}/cells/cell_name/applications/application_EAR_name
/deployments/application_name
.
3.Console/wsadmin should NEVER read the data from "installedApps
.
${WAS_Root}/installedApps
---------------------------------------------------------
After dropping a new/modified JAR file (hot deployment)
to the installedApps dir,we get different results from different
console views with enable/disable "Use Meta Data from binaries"
options.
.
Some of the incorrect console display
.
A.Enterprise Applications > MyApplication >Related Items >
EJB Modules >EJB.jar >Additional Properties
>View Deployment Descriptor
.
Result:
-Showing the NEW Beans (by dropping new jar in installedApps)
-reads the info from "installedApps" and this is not correct.
.
B.Enterprise Applications > MyApplication
>Additional Properties >View Deployment Descriptor
.
Result:
- BLANK PAGE
.
C.Enterprise Applications > MyApplication >Related Items >
EJB Modules >EJB.jar >Additional Properties
>View Deployment Descriptor
.
Result:
- BLANK PAGE
.
D.Enterprise Applications >MyApplication >Related Items >
WEB Modules >WEB.war >Additional Properties
>View Deployment Descriptor
.
Result:
- BLANK PAGE
Local fix Problem summary
****************************************************************
* USERS AFFECTED: Websphere application server users with *
* Network Deployment environment *
****************************************************************
* PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If the user uses AdminConsole and goes *
* to Enterprise Application-> *
* Application Name-> *
* View deployment Descriptor *
* With usemetadatafrombinaries enabled. *
* *
* Then we see the blank screen. *
* *
* Admin console looks for the data *
* from the location: *
* WAS_HOME\DeploymentManager\ *
* installedapps\META-INF *
* *
* But we should read the data *
* from the location: {CONFIG_ROOT}\cells\ *
* cell_name\applications\ *
* application_EAR_name\ *
* application_EAR_name.ear *
****************************************************************
* RECOMMENDATION: *
****************************************************************
In Network deplyoment environment if the user uses the Admin
console and goes to Enterprise Application-> Application Name->
View deployment Descriptor With usemetadatafrombinaries enabled.
Admin console looks for the data from the location
WAS_HOME\DeploymentManager\installedapps\META-INF
But we should read the data from the location
{CONFIG_ROOT}\cells\cell_name\applications\
application_EAR_name\application_EAR_name.ear
So a blank screen is displayed. Similarly, a blank screen is
visble in view deplyomentdescriptor of webmodules and
ejbmodules.
Problem conclusion
Code has been corrected to look for data in the correct
location.
A blank screen is no longer displayed when users browse
Enterprise Application->
Application Name->
View deployment Descriptor
With usemetadatafrombinaries enabled.
And also blank screen is not shown in viewdeploymentdescriptor
of webmodules and ejbmodules
