Resource references not in drop down if all servers are in cluster (no standalone sever configured)
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
In the Administrative Console, some defined resources are not shown in the dropdown lists on the "Map Resource References to Resources" and "Map Resource Env Entry references to Resources" pages.

Cause
The drop down should display...
  1. Resources on all non-clustered server
  2. Resources on clustered servers ensuring that they are present on each member of the cluster

What is done currently is just display resources on all non-clustered server.

For a number of reasons, including performance, the product was designed to show only resources which are available to at least one non-clustered server. Therefore, resources that are only available to clustered servers are intentionally not shown in the list.

Resolving the problem
You can type in a valid Resource Reference even if it is not listed in the drop down.

The workaround is to have at least one standalone server in the WebSphere configuration.

A design change for clustered environment has been integrated to WebSphere Version 6 .

Note:
APAR PQ86057 and PQ89469 are associated with Websphere Application Server V5.0.0 and V5.1.0 for z/OS. These APARs just changed the information displayed on the console to better explain the way the drop down is populated.
