PK04100; 5.0.2.9: File transfer application fails
hostname verification
Downloadable files
Abstract
File transfer application fails hostname verification
V5.0.2.
Download Description
PK04100 resolves the following problem:
ERROR DESCRIPTION:
In the Netword Deployment environment, the File Transfer application fails
when installing a portlet or application.
The error in SystemOut log for Portal Server or the application server is
similar to this:
FileTransferC E ADFS0112E: File transfer has failed with the following
message: Upload retry
limit exceeded for file C:\WebSphere\<servername>\deployed\file.ear.
FFDC logs show the hostname verification problem with an error such as
this:
Stack Dump = java.io.IOException: HTTPS hostname wrong: should be
<myhost.mycompany.com>
This problem is specific to WebSphere 5.0.2.
PROBLEM SUMMARY:
USERS AFFECTED:
WebSphere Application Server V5.0.2.x users running the filetransfer
application.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Portlet deployment fails due to the following file transfer failure:
java.io.IOException: HTTPS hostname wrong: should be
<myhost.mycompany.com>
This happens in the Lotus Workplace product.
RECOMMENDATION:
Filetransfer tried to open a connection that has hostname verifier turned
on. This would require the SSL certificate to have the server hostname
defined as the DN or subject CN. Since Application Server dummy
certificates do not meet this requirement, hostanme verifier failed.
PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
Modified filetransfer code to bypass hostname verification, so file
transfer application will work with the dummy certificate shipped by
WebSphere Application Server.
The fix for this APAR is currently targeted for inclusion in 5.02.11.
