Dependency exists between Java and the X11 server
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
When a product such as IBM® WorkFlow utilizes the Java™ Abstract Wizard Toolkit (AWT) on an AIX system a dependency between the Java process and the X11 server is created. The "tty" for this Java process will switch to a connection to the X11 server. If the X11 server is shutdown or crashes, the Java process will also be shutdown.

Cause
This is caused because Abstract Wizard Toolkit (AWT) utilizes native libraries that are OS specific.

Resolving the problem
There is no solution when the Abstract Wizard Toolkit (AWT) must be used beyond ensuring the X11 server is always available. If the product in question utilizes the Java Swing toolkit which is OS independent this dependency will not occur.
