Problem(Abstract) |
IBM® WebSphere® Application Server V5.0 fix packs can be
instructed to update an installation of IBM HTTP Server V1.3.26. However,
fix packs are not intended to update IBM HTTP Server V2.0. Instructing a
fix pack to update a release of IBM HTTP Server V2.0 can corrupt that
installation. |
|
|
|
Cause |
The Update Installer bundled with Application Server V5.0
fix packs updates only releases of IBM HTTP Server V1.3.26, not releases
of IBM HTTP Server V2.0. The Update Installer does not perform any IBM
HTTP Server version checking, so it is important to ensure that you are
applying the fix pack to a release of IBM HTTP Server V1.3.26. |

Resolving the
problem |
If a WebSphere Application Server V5.0 fix pack is
accidentally instructed to update IBM HTTP Server V2.0, the IBM HTTP
Server V2.0 installation is corrupted.
Follow these instructions to restore IBM HTTP Server V2.0 to its pre-fix
pack state:
- Allow the fix pack installation to finish. (Do not interrupt the fix
pack installation process!)
- Download the latest Update Installer utility available for the
appropriate version of WebSphere Application Server. Then extract the new
Update Installer on top of the existing Update Installer.
- Run the Update Installer utility again, and choose to uninstall the
fix pack completely.
Note: A fix pack cannot be partially uninstalled. It is not
possible to choose only to uninstall the IBM HTTP Server update.
- After the fix pack is successfully removed, start the HTTP server
(and, if necessary, the Application Server) and verify that it is
functional.
- Install the fix pack again. This time, ensure that IBM HTTP Server is
not selected when prompted by the Update Installer update.
Note: Pay attention to the panel where you "Select from the
following external components you want to update" to ensure that the IBM
HTTP Server is not selected for update in the Update Wizard. Look for the
option that asks for the location of the IBM HTTP Server product. Make
sure that the option is cleared. In the case of the silent update utility,
specify the -skipIHS command-line parameter.
