We would like to bring to your attention to the following important
information. WebSphere Application Server Version 5.0 has reached End of
Support, and Version 5.1 will reach End of Support on 26 September 2008.
The primary purpose of this material is to provide the information
required to plan and execute a successful migration between different
versions of IBM® WebSphere® Application Server. This technote will assist
you in planning and implementing an upgrade to the most current version of
WebSphere Application Server.
- IBM
Jacl to Jython Conversion Assistant
The IBM Jacl to Jython Conversion Assistant (Jacl2Jython) is a
program that assists in converting WebSphere administrative (wsadmin)
scripts written in Jacl into Jython syntax.
- WebSphere
wsadmin SOAP connector leads to performance issue
IBM WebSphere Application Server wsadmin with SOAP connector leads to
performance issue on federated configuration with even a single wsadmin
command taking a very long time to complete.
- How
to disable WebSphere Global Security for one Application Server in a
secure cell
In a WebSphere Application Server cell where Global Security is
enabled, you may want to disable security for individual application
servers, e.g. when you run some applications that can be accessed
anonymously, while others require authentication.
- Deployment
of application failed with IWAE0037E exceptions.
When deploying an EAR file from the administrative console the
deployment fails with the following message in the systemOut.log.
IWAE0037E Could not open C:\Program

- Using
the Java JAR command to open fix pack ZIP files is no longer
recommended
Previous versions of WebSphere Application Server for UNIX® platforms
were shipped in ZIP format. In the past, it was possible to use the Java™
JAR command to open these ZIP files. However, the JAR command breaks links
in more recent fix pack images.
- Obtaining
fix packs and cumulative fixes that are no longer on the support
pages
It is recognized that customers might still require fix packs and
cumulative fixes that are no longer available as downloads from the
WebSphere Application Server support pages. This solution explains how the
fix packs and cumulative fixes can be obtained.
- Manual
complete cleanup scripts for WebSphere Application Server V5.0, V5.1,
V6.0, and V6.1 on AIX and IBM HTTP Server V1.3, V2.0, V6.0, and V6.1 on
AIX
Under some circumstances, the information associated with WebSphere
Application Server product installation stored in the AIX® ODM VPD can
become corrupt or partially deleted. This will prevent the WebSphere
Application Server product installer from working properly. This script
cleans all WebSphere Application Server entries out of AIX ODM VPD to
resolve issues installing new instances of the product.
- Enabling
SSL between plugin and Application Server
By default, SSL between the Web server plugin and IBM WebSphere
Application Server is not enabled. Customer receives
GSK_ERROR_BAD_CERT(gsk rc = 414) in plugin log.
- Gradual
degradation in performance in IBM WebSphere Application Server Version 6.1
(PK64697)
PMI statistics are enabled by default for an Application Server, and
when enabled a gradual degradation in performance might be observed due to
memory consumption and this can result in denial of service (PK64697).
- Updating
LDAP binding information
A common problem customers face today is that changing binding Domain
Name (DN) passwords in an Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)
server requires that WebSphere Application Server must first be stopped
and then restarted.
- Nodeagent
fails to start with JSAS0026E error after enabling global
security
After enabling Global Security in WebSphere Application Server V5
releases, the nodeagent does not start. The error messages in the
nodeagent SystemOut.log.
