On Linux, configuring server collocation with NAT forwarding for Load Balancer
 Technote (troubleshooting)

Problem(Abstract)
On Linux®, if running at 5.0.2.49, 5.1.1.29, or 6.0.1.3 service levels or higher for Load Balancer, the collocated server can now be configured the same as any other server.

Resolving the problem
In previous releases of Load Balancer on Linux, the cluster is aliased using ifconfig as normal; however, the return address must not be aliased or arp published.
Instead, for every return address in the configuration, you must run the command:

route add return_addr gw router

where router is the local subnet router.

If you are running at 5.0.2.49, 5.1.1.29, or 6.0.1.3 service levels or higher, this restriction no longer applies. The return address is aliased as normal. The collocated server is configured the same as any other server. No changes are required to the configuration.
