Problem(Abstract) |
The startServer.bat script might contain some variables
that are not enclosed in quotation marks. When these variables refer to a
path that contains spaces, it can cause Application Server startup
failures. |
|
|
|
Cause |
The variable string in the startServer.bat file for
WebSphere® Application Server V5 releases contains a string similar to the
following:
"%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java" %WAS_TRACE% %DEBUG% %CONSOLE_ENCODING%
"%CLIENTSAS%" "-classpath" "%WAS_CLASSPATH%"
"-Dws.ext.dirs=%WAS_EXT_DIRS%" %USER_INSTALL_PROP%
"-Dwas.install.root=%WAS_HOME%" "com.ibm.ws.bootstrap.WSLauncher"
"com.ibm.ws.management.tools.WsServerLauncher" "%CONFIG_ROOT%"
"%WAS_CELL%" "%WAS_NODE%" %*
Notice that %WAS_TRACE% %DEBUG% %CONSOLE_ENCODING% and
%USER_INSTALL_PROP% are not enclosed with quotation marks. If these
variables refer to paths containing spaces, failure occurs.
Other server management scripts, such as stopServer.bat, startNode.bat,
and stopNode.bat might also contain variables without quotation
marks. |

Resolving the
problem |
This problem is resolved by enclosing the variables that
refer to paths containing spaces with quotation marks. The correct string
form is:
"%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java" "%WAS_TRACE%" "%DEBUG%" "%CONSOLE_ENCODING%"
"%CLIENTSAS%" "-classpath" "%WAS_CLASSPATH%"
"-Dws.ext.dirs=%WAS_EXT_DIRS%" "%USER_INSTALL_PROP%"
"-Dwas.install.root=%WAS_HOME%" "com.ibm.ws.bootstrap.WSLauncher"
"com.ibm.ws.management.tools.WsServerLauncher" "%CONFIG_ROOT%"
"%WAS_CELL%" "%WAS_NODE%" %* |
