Instructions for installing from the CD:
Installing the 60-day trial version (Web download)
For information about the supported product prerequisites, see:
http://www-4.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/doc/v35/prereq.html
The site provides information such as the supported levels and types of IBM Developer Kits and databases for use with this product.
Obtain the Public Domain Korn Shell (pdksh) for your Linux distribution from the compact disk for your Linux distribution, or from the pdksh Web site:
http://www.cs.mun.ca/~michael/pdksh/
If you plan to use an existing Web server with IBM WebSphere Application Server, stop the Web server before running the product installation script.
Install WebSphere Application Server Version 3.5:
./install.sh
The script will prompt you through the following decisions and activities.
(Note, if installing IBM WebSphere Application Server Standard Edition, some prompts will be omitted because an InstantDB database is always installed -- DB2 and other database choices are not available.)
The script leads you through:
For the administrative database configuration, be prepared to provide the following information:
For help with the above items, see InfoCenter article 1.2.3.6
Note, if you select the custom database configuration route, the installation script will not check whether the database information you enter applies to a supported database. Configuring IBM WebSphere Application Server to use an unsupported database will severely limit your IBM support options. See the above Prerequisites section for a pointer to the list of supported databases.
If using the Apache Server, you will need to configure the Web server before proceeding:
LoadModule app_server_module /opt/IBMWebAS/bin/mod_app_server.so AddModule mod_app_server.c Alias /IBMWebAS/ /opt/IBMWebAS/web NcfAppServerConfig BootFile /opt/IBMWebAS/properties/bootstrap.properties
cp -r /opt/IBMWebAS/WSsamples document_root cp -r /opt/IBMWebAS/WSsamplesIDB document_root
Whether you are using IBM HTTP Server or Apache Server, if the Web server is now running, you must stop it. Use the restart command to stop the server and start it again.
To start IBM HTTP Server 1.3.12, use the following command:
/opt/IBMHTTPServer/bin/apachectl restart
cd /opt/IBMWebAS/bin ./startupServer.sh
/opt/IBMWebAS/logs/tracefile
cd /opt/IBMWebAS/bin ./adminclient.sh
Run a servlet to further verify a successful installation.
http://hostname_or_IPaddress/servlet/snoopSnoop is a standard example servlet installed by default. The browser should now display information on /servlet/snoop.
See the following Web page for information about the trial version:
http://www-4.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/download_linux.html
If installing a trial version of the IBM WebSphere Application Server Version 3.5 for Linux (Intel), note these differences in the installation procedure. Also consult the above Web page for additional notes and instructions.
By default, the trial version installation is a "Quick Install," meaning it automatically installs a supported IBM Developer Kit, IBM HTTP Server, and an InstantDB database product.
After downloading the trial package using the instructions provided on the Web page:
tar -xvf edn_trial_was3_5.tarwhere edn is "adv" for the Advanced Edition or "std" for the Standard Edition.
cd edntrialthen run the script:
./quickinstall.sh
After it has completed the installation, restart the Web server, then start WebSphere Application Server. See the corresponding instructions in above CD installation procedure.
If you would like to use the trial download with an existing DB2 installation, do the following. Note, only IBM WebSphere Application Server Advanced Edition can use DB2, and the DB2 installation must meet the prerequisite requirements.
tar -xvf adv_trial_was3_5.tar
When the installation script prompts you whether to install DB2 or use a custom database, select the latter option.
