Installing Merant SequeLink for use with IBM WebSphere Application Server Advanced Edition and Oracle on Solaris
IBM WebSphere Application Server supports the use of Merant SequeLink with Oracle databases.
The Merant product provides the Oracle database with JDBC functionality.
During the IBM WebSphere Application Server installation process,
Merant SequeLink is not offered among the choices of databases available for use.
You must initially specify a database that is listed in the installation
graphical user interface. Subsequently, you convert to the Merant SequeLink driver by
using a database conversion assistant tool that can be downloaded from the
IBM WebSphere Application Server web site.
If you do not have any of the software installed yet, consider the
Quick Install option, which installs IBM HTTP
Server and a DB2 database. The database conversion assistant tool can be used
to change to the Merant SequeLink product and Oracle.
The steps in this topic describe how to install Merant SequeLink for use with a single configuration of
WebSphere Application Server in the following environment:
- Sun Solaris
- IBM Developer Kit, Java 2 Technology Edition, Version 1.2.2
- IBM HTTP Server (or other supported Web Server)
- A supported Oracle database
- A supported Merant SequeLink Server for Oracle on Solaris
- SequeLink driver (complimentary with Version 3.5.3 of WebSphere Application Server)
- A single node
Prerequisite Conditions
These instructions assume the following prerequisite conditions:
- You have determined which software versions to use for this configuration
from the prerequisite software versions currently supported by IBM WebSphere Application
Server. For example, for a list of the supported versions of Oracle, see
"Software Prerequisites"
as the authoritative reference.
- You have installed IBM WebSphere Application Server, as well as the
supported Web Server and database products that you plan to use for this configuration. For installation
instructions appropriate to your operating system and choice of prerequisites, see the "Operating
systems..." links on the Welcome page of the InfoCenter.
- You have applied the available FixPaks
to IBM WebSphere Application Server Version 3.5, particularly FixPak 3, which introduces the Merant support and
provides complimentary drivers.
Steps for installation
To enable Merant for use with Oracle as the administrative database for IBM WebSphere Application Server,
complete the following steps:
- Locate and enable the Merant SequeLink driver files, as described in
the IBM WebSphere Application Server documentation pertaining to database drivers.
- Ensure that the .jar files sljc and sljcx, which compose the Merant SequeLink driver,
are both in the CLASSPATH environment variable of the administrative server configuration file
before the Merant driver is used.
- Install the Merant SequeLink Server for Oracle on the same machine as the Oracle database
product with which you want to use the Merant driver. Perform any configuration necessary to
establish communications between the Oracle database and the SequeLink Server.
Refer to your Merant documentation
(Merant Web site -- documentation page)
and Installing the Merant SequeLink Server without a registration key
for instructions.
- Configure IBM WebSphere Application Server to use the Merant SequeLink driver with Oracle. See
Configuring IBM WebSphere Application Server for use with the Merant SequeLink driver
for information on how to do this step.
NOTE: If IBM WebSphere Application Server is already configured to use
a driver other than the Merant SequeLink driver with the Oracle database, you can
change to the Merant driver by modifying some settings. IBM WebSphere Application
Server provides a "database conversion assistant" tool
that helps you change the WebSphere administrative server settings to correspond to
the Oracle database and its Merant driver. The instructions contained in
Configuring WebSphere Application Server for use with Merant SequeLink driver
describe how to use the Merant driver with Oracle as the administrative database.
