Installing WebSphere Application Server--Custom Installation option

Custom installation allows you to choose specific components of the total install package and to specify alternate databases.

To install WebSphere Application Server, do the following:

  1. Stop the Enterprise Web Server by typing NSWEB at the NetWare console prompt, then select Shutdown Webserver and press Enter.
  2. After you put the application CD into your NetWare CD drive, type CDROM at the NetWare console prompt to load the CD.
  3. Start the NetWare GUI by typing STARTX at the NetWare console prompt. If it is already running, use CTRL-ESC to switch to the GUI.
  4. Click Novell and then Install.
  5. Click Add, type the path to the CD or browse to the CD, and select PRODUCT.NI.
  6. Click OK and then click Next to skip the introductory page.
  7. If prompted, enter your NetWare administrator username, context, and password.
  8. On the Install Options page, click Custom Install, specify the destination directory, and then click Next.
  9. On the Choose Application Server Components page, select the components you want installed and click Next.
  10. On the Database Options page, select the database you want WebSphere to use by clicking the Type drop-down list. Once you select your database type, fill in the appropriate fields and click Next.
  11. Click Finish to begin the installation.

IMPORTANT! After installation is complete, do not click Startup if you chose to use Oracle or DB2 as your administrative database. These must first be configured before you start WebSphere. Click Exit at the end of the installation process, or go to your database server, configure the database, and then return to the WebSphere installation and click Startup. You can start WebSphere later by typing STARTWEBSPHERE at the system console.
  12. If you chose Oracle or DB2 and have configured them, or if you chose to use InstantDB, click Startup at the end of the installation process to start WebSphere.
