Installing IBM HTTP Server 1.3.12

This section describes how to install IBM HTTP Server separately from the WebSphere Application Server installation. You can obtain IBM HTTP Server from the product CD or download it from an IBM Web site. Complete either set of installation steps below. Then verify your installation.

Installing IBM HTTP Server 1.3.12 from the product CD

To install IBM HTTP Server 1.3.12 from the product CD, do the following:

  1. Become Superuser (root).
  2. Locate filesets needed for installation in the /ihs_56 directory on the CD.
  3. Run smit and click Software Installation and Maintenance.
  4. Click Install and Update Software.
  5. Click Install and Update from LATEST Available Software.
  6. In the field INPUT device / directory for software, specify the path where the installation images are located.
  7. Click OK to take the default file choices for the IBM HTTP Server 1.3.12 software.
  8. Click OK to continue with the installation.

Installing IBM HTTP Server 1.3.12 from downloaded tar files

To install IBM HTTP Server 1.3.12 from downloaded tar files, do the following:

  1. Become Superuser (root).
  2. Use uncompress then tar to extract the packages from the compressed file for IBM HTTP Server.
  3. Use smit to install the packages.

Verifying installation of IBM HTTP Server 1.3.12

  1. If needed, start IBM HTTP Server 1.3.12 by navigating to the directory /usr/HTTPServer/bin and typing ./apachectl start.
  2. Open a browser and enter the Web address http://<your_host_name>/ or localhost.

If you see the Welcome to the IBM HTTP Server page, IBM HTTP Server is installed correctly. You may need to make configuration adjustments to the product for your system. Please see the product documentation for more information.
