Deciding which steps to follow

You can run the Oracle Server on your local node, or you can access an Oracle Server on another host for use as the WebSphere Administrative Database. WebSphere lets you use an Oracle database or allows multiple hosts to share an Oracle database.

If you have not already done so, install Oracle 8i on a server in your network. If you are expecting high volume traffic, you might want to install your Oracle database on a server other than the NetWare server where you are running WebSphere.

Then, obtain the product CD for WebSphere Application Server. Instructions for installation follow:

  1. Install Oracle 8i 8.1.5
  2. Configure Oracle as the Administrative Database on NetWare or NT
  3. Install WebSphere Application Server 3.5 - Custom Install option
