| Problem | Installation of fix packs, interim fixes or cumulative fixes fail or are incomplete unless they are performed by a root user on Unix® platforms or performed by a user with administrative privileges on Windows® platforms. Use this same user authority when unpacking the files prior to installation. | | Cause | The installation instructions in the WebSphere® Application Server Information Centers all contain a statement similar to the following:"Install this product as root on a Linux® or UNIX-based operating system, or from a user ID that is part of the Administrator group on a Windows platform. If you create a CD-ROM copy of the product CD-ROM, create it as root." The same statement applies to the installation of fix packs, interim fixes and cumulative fixes to WebSphere Application Server after the initial installation is performed.Systems where the user has been changed to a non-root ID, pseudo-root or a non-administrative ID for daily operation must change the user back to comply with the above statement before installing fix packs, interim fixes or cumulative fixes to WebSphere. Alternatively, you can install WebSphere full installation, fix packs, interim fixes or cumulative fix packs as root or administrator user first before switching to a non-root user. | | Solution | Install WebSphere, fix packs, interim fixes and cumulative fixes with a root user ID on Unix systems and a user ID that is part of the Administrator group on a Windows platform. | |
