| Error description
http://www-4.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/doc/v35/idx_aas
.htm states that iPlanet 4.1 is supported in WAS 3.5.2. This is
incorrect. iPlanet 4.1 SP1 is supported in WAS 3.5.2. Any highe
r service packs will not be supported until 3.5.3 due out next y
ear. Local fix
Update website Problem summary
of iPlanet 4.0 and 4.1 that WebSphere supported. The IBM website
said 4.0 and 4.1, however it didn't mention specific service
packs or "No service packs". Problem conclusion
- WAS v3.5 (AIX, NT, Solaris, HP-UX) was tested with iPlanet 4.0
(no service packs).
- WAS v3.5 PTF2 (NT, Solaris, HP-UX) was tested with iPlanet 4.1
(no service packs). AIX(4.3.3) was tested with iPlanet 4.1 SP3
because 4.1(no service pack) was not available when they began
testing WAS v3.5 PTF2 on AIX.
Since the testing of WebSphere with the above versions of
iPlanet was done, iPlanet has pulled a lot of the releases off
their website (www.iplanet.com/downloads/download/). As of
01/24/2001, the only available versions of iPlanet Enterprise
Edition were 4.0 SP6, 4.1 SP1 and 4.1 SP5.
I have successfully installed iPlanet 4.0 SP6 and 4.1 SP5 on NT,
AIX and Solaris. I was able to start the web server, stop it,
then install WebSphere v3.5 followed by PTF2. On all occasions
I was able to start the web server (after WAS installation),
start WebSphere and successfully call the example servlets (ie:
snoop) in my browser.
During my iPlanet installations I chose the defaults that were
offered to me. This includes using the JRE that comes with
iPlanet. There was some confusion on whether or not to use the
JRE that comes with iPlanet or use the one with WebSphere's JDK.
I had trouble getting iPlanet to work when I tried using the
JRE that comes with the JDK in WebSphere, However I did not have
any trouble when I chose to use iPlanet's JRE. start WebSphere and successfully call the example servlets (ie:snoop) in my browser.During my iPlanet installations I chose the defaults that wereoffered to me.
