| Problem | Error "alias already in use by another virtual host" reported in administrative console when attempting to add a virtual host. | | | | Solution | BackgroundWebSphere V3.5 Information Center states in Section 6.6.16.0: "Properties of virtual hosts; Aliases must be unique within the administrative domain -- two virtual hosts cannot have the same alias... If two virtual hosts have the same alias, when a request arrives for that alias, the results will be unpredictable. The request could be routed to either host."ProblemWebSphere version 3.5.3 did not prevent you from adding a duplicate alias to a virtual host. PTF 5 added a means of checking for duplicate aliases. If an alias is already in use in a virtual host, an error message is generated in the administrative console when you try to add a duplicated alias to the same or another virtual host within the administrative domain. This same error message is generated when you try to add a new unique alias to a virtual host that has duplicates that were imported during the upgrade from 3.5.3 to 3.5.5. It does not prevent the import of duplicate aliases; however, it does prevent you from adding additional aliases to the virtual hosts containing duplicates, until the duplicates are removed. Solution- Verify that all existing aliases are unique to the administrative domain.
- Remove the duplicate aliases from the virtual hosts so that each alias is unique.
- Verify that the alias being added is unique to the administrative domain.
