PQ43484: PTF INSTALL SHOULD VERIFY WRITABLE FILE SYSTEM

APAR

APAR status
Closed as fixed if next.

Error description
The PTF installation fails if the installation files are
stored on a read-only file system. For example, if the install
files are placed on a file system that is NFS-mountabled as
read-only on another machine, the PTF installation fails with
I/O errors because the PTF installation utility attempts to
write temporary files to the current file system and the current
file system is read-only. The PTF installation utility should
verify that the file system is writable and verify that there is
enough space available on it to store the temporary files and
report a helpful error message if one of these cases is not
true. Alternatively, the PTF install program could use the /tmp
file system for any temporary install files it needs to write
since that file system should always be writable and its intent
is to be used for temporary files.
Local fix
The customer can work around the problem by ensuring that the
PTF installation files are located on a writable file system
before performing the PTF install.
