WebSphere Application Server fix pack install fails due to a prerequisite checking error

Technote (FAQ)
Problem
Customer tries to install a WebSphereŽ Application Server fix pack and fails with an error.
For example, on HP-UX, returns an error:
"Error 806 -- Not enough space on the filesystem"
"Error 50 -- Prerequisites have not been satisfied"
However, there is enough space on the filesystem
Solution
In many cases, it is necessary to disable prerequisite checking in the WebSphere Application Server Installation.

Each WebSphere Application Server fix pack JAR file contains an Extractor class. This class is invoked using:

java -jar NameOfJar [Arguments]

One of the available arguments is "-SkipVer". This will disable all prerequisite checking.

There are multiple installs in the install.sh script. The one that invokes the Extractor for was35_adv_ptf_4.jar includes the environment variable $DELTA_JAR (it is set to "was35_adv_ptf_4.jar").

Modify the one line below:
java -jar $DELTA_JAR -TargetDir $WAS_DIR -backupJar $WAS_DIR/$BACKUP_JAR -log $WAS_DIR/logs/$LOG_FILE

to include -SkipVer:

java -jar $DELTA_JAR -TargetDir $WAS_DIR -backupJar $WAS_DIR/$BACKUP_JAR -log $WAS_DIR/logs/$LOG_FILE -SkipVer

Notes:

  • This is a single line, do not insert any carriage returns
  • Every word in this line is case sensitive
  • The install line is typically preceded by a line like:

echo "Installing the WebSphere Application Server 3.5 PTF 4"
