| Problem | After installation of fix pack 4 for WebSphere® Application Server 3.5 on Windows®, the admin server would not start. Received a Server Specific Error 10. There may also be a bogus_handle error in the adminserver_stderr.log. The jdk_ptf_4.log may indicate that the Java™ SDK has not been updated and/or may indicate specific errors. | | | | Solution | The install.bat file in the fix pack uses XCOPY as one of the processes to install the fix pack. Sometimes Windows 2000 does not have winnt/system32 in the system PATH (i.e. PATH variable defined in system scope). If this is not in PATH, XCOPY will not work and files will not be copied during installation. As a result, the Java version upgrade will not be performed.
Solution: Verify that winnt/system32 is in system's PATH for Windows 2000. If it is not, add winnt/system32 to PATH. Uninstall fix pack 4 and reinstall the PTF per instruction in the readme file for the fix pack. | |
