| Problem | If an unsuccessful installation or uninstall of Sequelink® 5.x server occurs, you might have to manually uninstall Sequelink 5.x before a successful installation of the product can be completed.
Following are the steps from the DataDirect knowledge base. | | | | Solution | When uninstalling SequeLink 5.0 it is very important that you shutdown the SequeLink Agent and data access services prior to the uninstallation. Otherwise, you get a corrupt swandm.ini and uninstallation fails. Please check to see if any SequeLink services are still active in the Control Panel or Services panel. Perform the following steps to manually uninstall the SequeLink server. - Use the NT Resource Kit service removal utility (instsrv.exe) to remove any existing services. Here are some examples of the commands to issue from a DOS window to remove the SLAgent50 and SLOracle50 services:
instsrv SLAgent50 remove
instsrv SLOracle50 remove
- Remove the lines that reference the SequeLink 5.0 Services (SLAgent50, SLOracle50, and so on) from the services file in the directory c:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc (where c:\WINNT is the directory where Windows NT is installed).
- Delete or rename the SequeLink 5.0 program directory. This defaults to C:\program files\merant\slserver50.
- Try to launch the SequeLink installer as follows:
msiexec /I "" DELETESERVERONUNINSTALL=0
Run this command in the directory where your installation files are located.
If this does not work, you might have a cached SequeLink msi file or a reference to the msi file somewhere on the system. This is the case if, when you launch the installer, you are given the choice to Modify, Repair or Remove the software instead of installing a new copy. If this happens, look for:- An actual SequeLink msi file in the WINNT\Installer directory. The files in this directory are named by a GUID or a hex address. To determine which file pertains to SequeLink, double click the file to launch the installer and read the title bar of the installer window to determine the product to which the file corresponds.
When you determine which file pertains to the SequeLink server, write down the name of the file, then remove the file. Remember to write down the name, because there is a key of the same name in the registry that you must delete.
Check the following sections:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
Look for the keys identified by a GUID. Check the values for these keys in the right pane of regedit to determine which key pertains to SequeLink Server. If a key exists, delete it after deleting any of the c:\winnt\installer\ folders labeled by the same GUID
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\LocalPackages
The keys under this section should each contain a reference to one of the *.msi files in C:\WINNT\Installer. If there is still a key referring to the SequeLink .msi file, delete the entire key, not just the value that has the .msi reference.
- Verify that you do not have any other swandm.ini files on your system. If you do, remove the directories containing this SequeLink file.
- Remove all slserver.log files from your system, reboot the machine and reinstall. After reinstallation, take a look at the newly created slserver.log file for more information.
