org.omg.CORBA.MARSHAL : Unable to read value from underlying bridge

Technote (FAQ)
Problem
Server Group or its associated clones cannot be started or stopped and results in the following exception:

org.omg.CORBA.MARSHAL : Unable to read value from underlying bridge.

This exception is issued when you attempt to start or stop a server group and its associated clones using the Administrative Console or the WebSphere Scripting Control Program (WSCP) utility.
Solution
There are two main causes for this issue. If your problem is not resolved after following these steps, open a PMR with IBM® Technical Support.
  1. Apply WebSphere® Application Server Security cumulative fix if WebSphere Application Server security is enabled. The WebSphere Application Server Security cumulative fix consists of all iFixes for WebSphere Application Server Security components. Download from: http://www.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/support.html, then search on the words cumulative security.

  2. Ensure that all nodes in your WebSphere Application Server administrative domain are at the same JVM™ level. This is an example of how to verify that all the JVM's are at the same level, this example is from a Solaris box but the same applies to all platforms:
    Node A:

chissd257$/opt/WebSphere/A/java/bin/java -fullversion java full version "1.3.1_04-b02"

    Node B:
    chissd262$ /opt/WebSphere/A/java/bin/java -fullversion java full version "1.3.1_04-b02"
