| Error description
If you attempt to start an AppServer which contains a bean that
has an incorrect id or password, it is possible that one of
two situations could occur. It is possible that the
adminConsole will appear to hang, and not show that the
AppServer has been started (even though it has) or if there are
a large number of beans in the AppServer, it could hang the
entire startup processes. Regardless of the outcome, there are
no error messages indicating the source of the problem. Local fix
Correcting the id/password of the bean will solve the problem.
Recycling the adminConsole will show the correct status of the
AppServer if it actually did startup. Problem summary
Starting the app server appears to hang if the
id/password is incorrect for an EJB. Invalid id/password
exceptions are thrown but the admin console icon remains an hour
glass. Problem conclusionTemporary fix
The admin console appears to be hung; however, if
the refresh button is pressed, the icon changes to the proper
pointer and the app server shows running state. The EJBs still
have a non-running icon but clicking the EJB causes the icons to
update. The problem is that the necessary jdbc driver class
file is not in the admin console classpath. To resolve, edit
the adminclient.bat (or adminclient.sh for unix) and add the
appropriate class file. Example: c:\SQLLIB\java\db2java.zip
This information is gathered at GM install time and not
properly entered into the scripts.
After the class file has been added to the classpath, the app
server reports the exceptions and continues to load. All icons
appear in the correct state.
Also note, when the admin console appears to be hung, it can be
closed via Console | Exit and restarted. The icons are in the
proper state upon restart.
A documentation defect will be opened so that this information
will be added into WAS 3.5.5 InfoCenter.
Note, I validated this on WAS 3.5.4. Comments
This issue is addressed in
the next full release of WAS. The file
in question is in the classpath.
Because this is an issue that would be addressed
at the time of a full install, 3.5.x code
will not be shipped unless a full 3.5.x install
refresh were to be done. The CLASSPATH
may be modified by the user until then.
