How to change between JSP Versions in the VisualAge WebSphere Test Environment

Hints and tips

Abstract
How to change between JSP Versions in the VisualAge WebSphere Test Environment for migrating from WAS 3.5.x to 4.0.1
Content
In upgrading from WAS Version 3.5.4 to Version 4.0.1. JSPs have to be changed from JSP1.0 specs to JSP 1.1. Note that 3.5.4 supports JSP 1.1 as well, but version 4.0 requires using it. In order to properly develop JSPs for this spec, the spec must also be upgraded in the WebSphere Test Environment. The JSP version is set in the app_name.webapp XML configuration file.

To see which version is currently in use, open it in any text editor. Its located in the servlets folder of whatever host is being used. For example,
/VisualAge for Java/ide/project_resources/IBM WebSphere Test Environment/hosts/default_host/default_app/servlets/default_app.webapp
is where the .webapp file is located for the default application on a Windows machine.

There are several tags within tags and tag pairs in the file. The JSP spec is designated within in the tag named JSP. Compiler codebase contained within the tag pair needs to be changed.

*** JSP 0.91 Compiler ***
com.ibm.ivj.jsp.debugger.pagecompile.IBMPageCompileServlet

*** JSP 1.0 Compiler ***
com.ibm.ivj.jsp.runtime.JspDebugServlet

*** JSP 1.1 Compiler ***
com.ibm.ivj.jsp.jasper.runtime.JspDebugServlet
