Failover problem with WebSphere - Solaris Plug-in and a proxy firewall

Technote (FAQ)
Problem
The HTTP Plug-in does not failover requests to the next available clone when a proxy firewall is between the Web server and the Websphere® Application Server.
Solution

WebSphere 3.5.4/ 4.0.4
WebServer is remote to WebSphere
Proxy firewall between "WebServer" and "WebSphere"

In a WebSphere environment that has a proxy firewall in between the Web server and the WebSphere Application Server, the plug-in is not getting the latest update of the status of the clones, which results in a failover problem for the plug-in.

  1. Install the following interim fix on the Web server machine where the plug-in resides:
    1. PQ66649 for WAS 4.0.4
    2. PQ60991 for WAS 3.5.4

  2. Restart the Web server.
