| Problem | The WebSphere Prerequisites webpage lists Apache as one of the webserver options. What support for Apache does WebSphere Application Server provide? | | | | Solution | WebSphere Application Server is a supported product. However, webservers that are listed as valid configuration options are not supported by the WebSphere Application Server development team.
The following are examples of IBM supported plugins:- WebSphere Application Server installs a plugin into the webserver so that requests destined for WebSphere will be identified and passed to WebSphere, rather than being handled by the webserver.
- Starting with WebSphere 4.0.4, the Apache EAPI is also supported. As a result WebSphere will support configurations that include 3rd party module (e.g., OpenSSL) using the EAPI. See WebSphere 4.0.4 release notes for more detail: ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/software/websphere/appserv/support/fixpacks/was40/fixpack4/docs/404rn.html
- Further, WebSphere 4.0.2 and 4.0.3 will support the APACHE EAPI with the installation of interim fix PQ59241.
IBM also offers two supported webserver products: Lotus Domino and IBM HTTP Server. Both of these products ship with an SSL module that is supported by IBM. WebSphere Application Server tests with both of these SSL modules.
Note: Configurations that include use of the Apache EAPI are supported by WebSphere, not IBM HTTP Server. Search for technote "1049730" at http://www.ibm.com/software/webservers/appserv/support.html | | | | | Historical Number | PMR38252
