Administrative server does not start after installation of PTF 4 to WebSphere 3.5

Technote (FAQ)
Problem
Administrative server does not start, SIGSEGV 11 (*) segmentation violation
Solution
After installing WebSphere® Application Server 3.5 and applying Fix Pack 4 on a new AIX® 4.3.3 machine, you get the following error:

SIGSEGV 11 (*) segmentation violation:

si_signo [11]: SIGSEGV: (*) segmentation violation

si_errno [0] : Error 0

si_code [50] : Error 0 [addr: 0xA24CDCD]

stackpointer=2ff210d8

WebSphere PTF 4 creates several temporary files during the installation that are necessary for the installation to complete successfully. For the files to be created, PTF 4 must be installed from a directory that has read and write permission.

Verify that the directory from which PTF 4 was installed has the required read and write permission. If it does not, you must uninstall PTF 4 and reinstall from a directory with read/write permission.

After the administrative server is installed from a file with read/write permission, it starts and the SIGSEGV 11 (*) segmentation violation errors are no longer present.
