Defined Custom Error Pages not Displayed Correctly in Microsoft® Internet Explorer

Technote (FAQ)
Problem
You have defined custom error pages in WebSphereŽ Application Server. However, users are seeing an error page that you did not define.
Solution
Problem Details:

You have defined a custom error page within your web application. The error pages that you have defined are very simple and display simple messages (e.g. "404 File not Found" or "500 Internal Server Error").

However, when an error occurs, your corresponding custom error page is not displayed. You receive a different error code and description at the bottom of the message (e.g. "The page cannot be displayed").

Resolution:

To ensure that your error pages are displayed, you will want to modify the following Internet Explorer settings:

Select Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and then uncheck the Show friendly HTTP error messages.

This is a client side work-around. The real resolution to this problem is to ensure that the defined error page is at least 8k in size. An error page of 8k or greater will override any default settings in the browser. This ensures the custom error page is displayed regardless of the configuration of browser.
