Unable to start administrative server after installing a fix

Problem
After installing a PQ fix, administrative server or client startup fails with the following message:

Runtime exception: java.lang.ClassCastException

java.lang.ClassCastException
java.lang.ClassCastException
at DomL2Spt.findNode(DomL2Spt.java:652)
Cause
Attempting to install a fix with a Java™ executable other than the one that ships with WebSphere® Application Server.
Solution
The fix must be installed with the Java version that is in the WebSphere Application Server installation path.
