Features of the Java Batch tool

This document overviews the features in the Java Batch tool. Use this operation-based tool to write program applications and perform automated tasks with Java.

Note: Enable the following features on Liberty to use the Java Batch tool:
  • Admin Center 1.0
  • batchManagement 1.0

Dashboard view

The dashboard view is the default view. This view has no filter and displays the first fifty instances in order of their time stamps, the most recently updated appearing first.

Labels
  • Batch Job Name:
  • Instance ID: Field that requires a number.
  • Application Name: The program that runs the application.
  • Submitter: Name of the person who created the job instance.
  • Instance State: Displays whether the most recently run execution completed or failed. Click an instance state to see other instances of the same state.
Buttons
  • Breadcrumb bar
    • Click the [clock icon] button to return to the unfiltered view of the dashboard.
    • Click the [refresh arrows icon] button to refresh the current page by clearing any search criteria.
  • Hover the cursor over a row. A [square button with a triangle inside] appears. Click the button to expand the job instance row and display the executions for each instance. An execution is created each time the instance runs. To hide the job executions, click [the button] again.
  • Click the [gear] column selection button to hide or show the instance columns that appear in the dashboard view. In addition to customizing columns for the instances, you can also customize the columns for the executions of each instance by clicking the [gear] when viewing the expanded list of executions.
  • Click the [view log file] button on a row to view the log for that instance or exection. The logs explain why an instance or execution failed or completed.
  • Click the Instance ID to filter the view to only that instance.

Explore tool

Use the explore tool to filter the list generated by the dashboard view.

  • Click the [plus sign button] to add filter criteria. Each search criteria includes a column and a value from which you can select to customize the search criteria and narrow the filtering. The options for filter criteria are as follows:
    • All: Displays all instances but does not organize them by most recently updated time.
    • Queued: Filters for the Submitted, JMS Queued, and JMS Consumed states.
      • Submitted
      • JMS Queued
      • JMS Consumed
    • Dispatched
    • Ended
      • Failed
      • Stopped
      • Completed
      • Abandoned
  • Click the [magnifying lens button] to perform the filter.
  • Click the [x button] to clear the filter. If you do not specify filter criteria, all instances are displayed and sorted by the most recently updated instance.

Log view

  • Default behavior showing the last page of logs

Job execution view

Click the [square button with a triangle inside] to expand to see the executions of an instance. Click a Job Execution ID to get more information about that execution.

  • Job Parameters
  • View log file button: Click the [view log file] button to view the log for that execution. The log explains why the execution failed or completed.
  • Instance information: The fields indicating Batch Job Name, Application, Instance State, and Submitter pertain to the particular execution.
  • Specifications list: Displays the steps taken that were specified by the execution.
    • Step Name
    • ID: Displays either a number or a [dot icon] with a number. This icon depicts a partition and the partition number.
    • Batch Status
    • Start Time
    • End Time
    • Exit Status
