Situation Description

Active connections indicates the current number of active connections for a target TCP/IP. This count is incremented by the distributing TCP/IP when one of the following occurs:

  • A connection request is forwarded by the distributing TCP/IP to that target.
  • The distributing TCP/IP is informed that the target has initiated a TCP connection using this DVIPA as a source IP address.

Suggested Actions

Determine a value for connection count by observing history to obtain a working baseline. A count significantly in excess of the established baseline indicates a change in network workload and can signify an impending performance problem. Load balancing is a possible solution. If there are no new connections, this can be an indication of server congestion. If the Target Server Responsiveness value is dropping for all target servers, additional servers should be started.
