BIRT is an (Eclipse) open source component which provides a development and execution environment for BIA content.
The use of a second Eclipse instance for BIRT development is required as standard BIA Report development requires Eclipse 3.6.2 and BIRT development requires Eclipse 3.6.1. See the Third Party Tools Guide for a full explanation. Please note, that a BIRT development environment is not required to view BIRT content shipped with any delivery.
